Shatter (like Ice), Burn (like Fire)

Chapter 1: A nice day

Chapter Text

His arm hurt. His father had hit it hard with fire. Much of his body hurt, but the arm was the only thing that needed treatment. The only new thing, at least.

Shoto took out the burn cream from where he’d hid it. His father didn’t like it much when he used it, but it made the burn go away faster, and if he didn’t find out he wouldn’t punish him. Shoto was good at not being found out about this.

The cream was starting to run out, so he would have to get more soon. It wasn’t immediate, he had more, he’d hidden packages of these sorts in several places. But he wanted to have it, so he wouldn’t have to worry about it. He checked the other things he’d hid, taking mental notes of what he’d stock up with, when he was going.

It was lunch soon, and this was one of the days he only had “training”, so technical he had the afternoon free. He did have some homework, but he’d done most already, and he could do it after he got back, he should be back before it was evening. His father wouldn’t be back before tomorrow morning, it would be afternoon training.

He took his bag and went out, he always had money in it, and the card from his father. His father never bothered to look at the expenses for that card, so Shoto didn’t have to worry about being found out for using it.

Shoto took the bus into the city. It was a nice ride, mostly empty given that most people was in school or at work this time of the day.

He knew the way from the bus stop well, this was one of the few things he went out for, almost always his reason for being in this part of the city. He’d only been here a couple times doing other things.

It wasn’t far, so the walk was quick. He had made sure he knew everything he needed to get, it would be awful if he forgot something. Most of the things he was getting were things he needed to get pretty often, like burn cream and bandages. The kind of stuff he used a lot.

The people there were nice, if he needed help finding things he just needed to ask. He hadn’t needed help finding things since he first started going here, they hadn’t reorganised it, and he only needed the same things. It didn’t take long to by the things, there hadn’t been much of a line.

He was a bit hungry, even though it hadn’t been long since he’d had lunch. Shoto thought about if for a bit, before deciding that he could just as well get something to eat, given that he already was here. There was a good place to eat nearby, he went there sometimes when he was on one of these little trips.

He walked the short bit there, and ordered food. It was cold soba, because it was his favourite.

When he got the food he started to eat, it was delicious. It was nice, there weren’t a lot of people, so it was calm and quiet.
