In Which Lily Wishes She Had Just Called It a Night

Summary:

Lily comes across something she isn’t expecting during her prefect’s rounds.

Notes:

The first of a few Wolfstar one shots that I’ve decided to post. I think they’ll be part of a series eventually.

This was written on my notes app in like twenty minutes and not really edited, so I hope there aren’t too many errors.

This is my first time posting wolfstar despite being a reader of it for so long, so I hope you enjoy!

P.S. I do not support JK Rowling and her bigoted views.

Work Text:

Lily heard the tell tale sign of footsteps and the slamming of a door. Ugh. Students out of bed again; her rounds were supposed to be ending soon, and she was in fact standing right by the entrance to the Gryffindor common room. But she supposed now she’d have to find out who she’d heard roaming around first.

Her first guess would normally be Potter, but seeing as he was on rounds with her she couldn’t blame him this time. Although it could be one of his friends…Sirius probably. She wondered for a second how whoever it was had known she was coming when she hadn’t been making any noise, but she’d think about that later.

She headed in the direction of the door she’d heard close.

Sirius and Remus went into the first door they came across when they’d had to backtrack to avoid getting caught sneaking back into the common room. Unfortunately the door just so happened to lead to a small supply closet.

“Damn Evans. Why’s she guarding the common room entrance,” Sirius whispered as they hurried inside.

“I suppose that’s what we get for being out of bed,” Remus said.

“James was supposed to keep her occupied until we finished our part of the plan.”

They crowded in, the space barely large enough to fit the two of them. Sirius pressed his back against the shelf that lined the wall and Remus pressed in against Sirius.

“Well, this is cozy, isn’t it,” Sirius said, his breath faltering when he looked up and met Remus’ amber gaze.

Remus nodded. “Yeah. Cozy.”

He shifted to try and put some space between him and Sirius, but tripped over something, falling even further into Sirius’ space. He caught himself on the shelf behind Sirius, his hands brushing Sirius’ waist, and his knee coming to rest between Sirius’ leg. He gulped, and noted with surprise that Sirius did too.

Sirius looked up at him. His voice was thick when he spoke. “Remus-“

The air felt thick, and Remus isn’t sure what came over him. But suddenly he was leaning forward, and capturing Sirius’ lips with his. He panicked, for one, two seconds, and then Sirius responded, his hands pulling Remus closer still, so close their chests were touching, his hands coming to rest on the small of Remus’ back.

Remus moved his hands to Sirius’ hair, tangling his fingers into the long strands. He had dreamed of this moment for so long, and yet even in dreams Sirius’ hair had never been this soft.

He’s not sure how long they stayed like that, but time had seemed to slow. Remus was vaguely aware of a crook in his neck, developing from being hunched over. But he was more aware of Sirius’ fingers slipping under the hem of his sweater and tracing along the skin there.

In the back of his mind Remus thought of the possibility of Lily finding them here, like this, and yet he couldn’t bring himself to care. Not really. Not when he finally knew what it was like to be kissed by Sirius Black.

Lily had almost given up and was just going to go back to the common room and call it quits when she ran into James. She was just about to explain what she’d heard, when a crash came from around the corner.

“It came from the supply closet down the hall”James said nonchalantly. He really hoped Sirius and Remus had made it back to the common room already and he hadn’t just given away their hiding spot.

“How could you possibly know that?”

“I know every spot in this castle that’s worth knowing Evans.”

“All the hiding spots that is then,” Lily retorted, but took off towards the end of the hallway anyway.

James just winked, following Lily in the direction of the closet.

When they reached the door, Lily paused for a second before pulling it open quickly.

“I caught- oh Merlin! I-sorry,” she stared at Remus and Sirius who quickly sprang as far apart as they could in the small space. But that did nothing to help. Their lips were red and swollen, and Sirius’ hair was a mess. Lily wasn’t stupid.

“I should give you two detention. I really should. But-“

“Evans, don’t tell James please. Not yet,” Sirius said, his eyes trying hard to look at anything but Remus. Remus who stood with his face in his hands trying to hide how embarrassed he was.

“Well actually,”

“Don’t tell James what? Was that Sirius I heard?” He materialized next to Lily. “I’m sorry I told her to look here-I-woah. Wait a minute.” He looked between Sirius and Remus. His eyes growing big as he took in the scene before him and what it meant. “So you two?”

“It’s a new development,” Sirius said.

“Well. Good that’s good. I’m uh-happy for you two. Now let’s get back to the common room shall we? All of us.”

When they made it back to the common room Lily apologized again before saying she was happy for them, truly, and that she’d known all along really. She gave them each a small hug before heading off to bed. Remus went to head up the stairs too, before turning back to look at James and Sirius.

“Sirius and I will be up in a minute,” James said.

Remus nodded and headed up the stairs.

James looked at Sirius, long and hard. Sirius looked down at the ground awkwardly.

“So. You and Moony? This is gonna be more than a snog in a broom cupboard right? I know you told me you fancied him but I also know how you are sometimes. And Moony deserves better than that.”

“I don’t know. It just kind of happened. But I hope so. I want it to be.”

“Well good. Cause even though I love you, and you’re like my brother, if you hurt Moony I’ll have to hurt you. Now let’s head up to bed.”

James and Sirius head up the stairs, James reaching to ruffle Sirius’ hair, who twists to try and dodge the motion. They’re laughing. When James goes to open the door Sirius stops him.

“Prongs?”

“Yeah?”

“Thank you.”

“For what?”

“For everything.”

James knew that Sirius meant for not being mad. Or weirded out. For simply accepting Remus and Sirius as they were, just as he had always done. And always would.
