Skin tone

Boris’ skin tone is fair, maybe slightly pale.

Eyes

Boris’ eyes are normally a bright purple but changes color due to his blot. They can be other colors such as; bright red, yellow, lavender, dark red, dark purple, blue and bright green.

Hair

Boris’ hair is short and more fluffed out in the front than the back where it’s much smoother and more combed. His hair is white with a black fade on its ends.

Boris is 5’9 feet tall or 175 centimeters.

Boris weighs 159 pounds or 72.12 kilograms.

Body type

When Boris entered Twisted Wonderland for the first time, he was fairly skinny and thin. His physique remained fairly consistent throughout the story before he started picking up how to fight from Jack and Silver to try and build up his muscle and self-defense skills. Around the sixth arc, Boris has attained a more muscular physique and stronger arms.

Birthmarks/Scars

Boris has a scar on his left hand from Grim scratching him before the end of the fifth arc. He also has various scars on his arms from overblots and Ramshackle generally just being a safety hazard.

Clothes and accessories

Boris dresses in a typical Night Raven College school uniform during the school day; a white buttoned shirt, black blazer, a pale blue vest for Ramshackle, white gloves, black trousers and strange high-top boots with white laces. For his dorm ‘uniform’ he simply removes his jacket, gloves and vest, wearing black suspenders instead.

Boris wears a bowtie with every outfit. His school/dorm uniform bowtie is black but he has a variety of colors based on the outfit.

Boris has blot on his cheeks that morphs into a variety of shapes based on his personality or mood.

Description

Boris early on was mild-mannered and timid. He kept to himself much more because he didn’t have much of an understanding when it came to the world of Twisted Wonderland and Night Raven College as a school. He stayed silent, stayed in line and followed the rules when he was told to do so. When the story began to progress, Boris slowly but surely gained confidence in his intelligence and skill. He developed the ability to be resourceful without the use of magic, creating plans and leading the charge in some missions to help out his friends, mostly Ace Trappola and Deuce Spade. Boris started becoming apathetic to the overblots and some of the general attacks striking NRC the more and more it happened to him. He adjusted to the status quo. He knows when to treat a situation delicately and when to give it a firm hand. This can make him come off as wishy-washy or easily influenced by his own feelings though.

Boris, while he doesn’t personally see himself as an emotional person, thinks too much over how his actions will affect others and whether or not he should go through with certain ideas. Boris can be incredibly hesitant to speak out and while he got over it as the story went on, he still finds himself hesitating when others are in danger. Sometimes he feels helpless being magic-less in a magical world and becomes exhausted having to put up with so much work hence his growing apathy. In no way does he see himself as some sort of hero, he just sees himself as a guy but that viewpoint kind of makes him appear weak. 

Overall, Boris is compassionate, empathetic and kind but can be a pushover. He’s still got a lot to learn even with how far he’s come. His emotions cloud his judgment so he has to put his foot down but he can take it too far. Becoming hardened, tough and a bit of a jerk when he’s at his limit. He’s only lashed out at somebody once then decided to get a better grip on himself after regretting the decision afterwards.

Being weak is probably Boris’ biggest insecurity, being looked down upon by others for being magic-less and it makes him contemplate his place at times. People not really respecting or appreciating him at times when he feels he deserves it.

Biggest dream

Boris’ biggest dream when he lived a normal life was to become a successful artist because where he came from, being a professional artist was heavily frowned upon.

Pet Peeves

What ticks off Boris the most is general stupidity courtesy of his local dynamic duo; Ace Trappola and Deuce Spade. Of course he is not immune to it but what makes it so irritating for Boris is when the situation can be solved with a simple conversation and basic communication, it grinds his gears to hell.

Trivia

Boris was inspired by Blank from Blank; A Vinylmation Love Story. It’s an intentional joke on Yuu and MCs in general being ‘blank’ characters that the player gets to fill out.

He was conceptualized as the ‘Anti-Yuusona’ where most of his traits were based around being the opposite of what was seen in popular yuusonas around the fandom. Eventually his character developed itself and he became more of a kind straight man keeping things in balance but not taking over or being underwhelming.

Early concept designs for Boris Walters showed his eyes being covered by his bangs and his was changed to let his eyes be shown for the sake of his blot. It’s implied in stories that this remained and either Boris pulled his bangs back or Vil cut his bangs for him.

His signature black bowtie was a gift from his girlfriend, Veronica Daisy.

Boris is canonically bisexual.

The black fade in his hair is due to the blot he absorbed while entering Twisted Wonderland.

All of Boris’ nicknames are the same except for Rook’s which was changed from Trickster to Monsieur Doodle to reflect Boris as an artistic character. There is also the addition of Buddy/Buddy Boris from Cater.

Boris draws everybody and even has a few sketchbooks dedicated to drawing his classmates and some staff members.

His favorite people to draw are Ace, Deuce, Sebek, Malleus, Leona and Silver.

He learns to draw different things while progressing through the arcs but hair is his favorite thing to draw.

Before Twist, Boris had pure white hair and dark brown eyes.

His blot can turn into various shapes and patterns based on who he’s mimicking.

It’s possible that Boris’ name and association with blot/ink is a nod to an indie game titled Bendy and the Ink Machine. The game featured a friendly wolf cartoon character named Boris the Wolf and the Ramshackle dorm head even has a Halloween costume outfit based on that same character. Boris also says Cater refers to him as “Buddy” or “Buddy Boris” because of how friendly he is which is another nod to the inky wolf.

He created an art club for NRC upon discovering they didn't have one before.

Backstory

Boris Walters was born in Anitown, growing up there his entire life. He found himself falling in love with art first and foremost from doodling in his notebooks to painting on small easels his mother and father bought him to creating little sculptures from clay. Art had a massive influence on Boris despite Anitown looking down on it. While it was possible to become an artist, it was heavily looked down upon where Boris came from because it wasn’t a popular occupation and it paid poorly. People tried and convinced him otherwise, asking him to pursue other career options when he seemed set on it. He could have done construction like his father or working down at the train station like his mother, anything else but he pushed back as everyone told him his dream seemed nothing more than a silly hobby.

When Boris was in middle school, he stayed in the library during after school club hours to sketch and draw. Most of the time the library would be quiet and empty anyway, it worked for him. He didn’t have a bunch of friends to hang out with or a club to be in and didn’t mind regardless. Until a peculiar girl walked into his life, or rather, snuck into his life. Veronica Daisy, a girl with white hair, mismatched eyes and a pink bow. She came across Boris multiple times before but didn’t start talking to him until the 7th grade because she didn’t think another ‘artsy’ kid existed like her. She did photography and he drew, it just made sense. They would share discussions about random topics; mice, cards, painting, anything they could think of they would talk about until they had to go home. Even after that, they would spend time riding the train around town even though they both knew their way around like the back of their hands. They’d go to the park and take photos and find random animals.

Boris and Veronica grew closer and closer with each passing day. They felt like it was just them against the whole world and they liked it that way. A couple of artistic underdogs determined to make names for themselves. Veronica even gifted Boris a black bowtie for his birthday and even taught him how to tie it, since then he never took it off of him. He’d wear it with every outfit, even his gym clothes.

They stayed together when they entered Anitown Academy together, even starting an art club because it didn’t offer one. Even though they were the only two members they could still make the most of it. Boris always insisted on drawing Veronica seeing as they were alone but she’d shy away for some silly reason. She’d say she couldn’t find the right pose or make the right face and giggle. He’d keep insisting, he doesn’t have any drawings of her to make up for how often she’d photograph him. She let him draw her just once. Just once and he did the most he could with it.

He still has that one drawing of her.

When he woke up in Twisted Wonderland, he…forgot. He had forgotten so much.
