“Push forward!” Rex shouts as the clones fire on the droids.
“Stay to my left,” Cody shouts as they go forward. They exit the tunnel, Obi-Wan, and Anakin ahead of them as they block the oncoming bolts.
“We need to get to the command post,” Obi-Wan shouts above the sounds of blasters.
“This will be fun,” Anakin states, grinning.
“Your definition of fun disturbs me.” Obi-Wan dryly comments as he blocks more bolts. “Raise up your shields!” Obi-Wan shouts to the men as the droids get closer.
“We're on it, sir,” Cody states. Rex pauses next to him, his hand going up to his head. “Hey, you all right?”
“Yeah, I... I just...” Rex stutters and Cody shakes Rex’s shoulder.
“Come on, this is a textbook battle. We've run through this a million times before in training.” Cody states.
“Yeah, I know... I just... I don't feel like myself.” Rex finally says.
“What do you mean?” Cody asks, the droids get closer and Anakin is able to take out a few with his saber, making a pathway.
“Follow me.” Anakin shouts.
“Jedi,” Rex whispers, and Cody looks at him confused. His expression concealed by his helmet.
“Rex? What's the matter with you?” Cody asks. Obi-Wan senses the distress behind him and turns around.
“If he’s feeling sick, tell him to retreat, I don’t want unnecessary casualties,” Obi-Wan states, kindly, he then turns back and moves to go join Anakin.
“Uh, no... Nothing. I'm fine.” Rex assures and Cody looks at him skeptically. He hesitates and then pats him on the shoulder assuringly.
“Come on then, vod. Don't want to be left behind.” Cody states.
“Don't fall back! Push forward!” Anakin shouts.
“Rex! Hey! This is not the time to freeze up! Pull it together! We're almost to the finish line! Come on!” Cody states and gets behind a crate for cover.
“Jedi...” Rex states.
“Hey, get Rex out of here! He’s going to get himself killed!” Anakin shouts, and Cody nods.
“Good soldiers follow orders.” Rex blankly states as spots Obi-Wan blocking bolts.
“Hey, Rex!” Cody yells as Rex moves forward.
“On your right!” Obi-Wan shouts to Anakin. Anakin nods and Obi-Wan moves forward, killing some droids in the process.
“Rex, what are you doing?!” Anakin angrily shouts as Rex walks forward. Anakin sees Rex raise his blaster and cock the blaster pointed straight at Obi-Wan. Anakin’s face turns to worry.
“Rex, stop!” Anakin shouts.
“Rex! No!” Cody shouts as he realizes what his vod is doing.
Obi-Wan senses Rex behind him and senses the danger. He sees the blaster pointed at him and his face turns to confusion and concern.
“Good soldiers follow orders.” Rex blankly states once again. He fires his blaster. Anakin moves to force-throw him but he’s too late.
“Obi-Wan! NO!” Anakin shouts as he races to Obi-Wan’s side. Cody tackles Rex, and holds him in lock with his arms.
Cody looks at Obi-Wan and tears gather in his eyes. “Why’d you do that? Why did you shoot him?!” Cody shouts. “General?” Cody asks, turning to Anakin, who is holding Obi-Wan in his lap.
Anakin looks up, tears streaming down his face. “He’s dead.” Anakin hugs Obi-Wan to his chest and sobs heartbreakingly.
“We need to move, Sir. We’re sitting ducks right now.” Crys states as he sadly looks at his fallen General. Cody nods.
“Fall back! Retreat.” Cody shouts. Cody turns to Boil and Waxer. “Take Rex to one of the cells, we need to figure out why he” Cody pauses. “Why he killed the General.” Cody walks over to Anakin and puts a hand on his shoulder. “We need to move, Sir,” Cody states, his voice breaking as he looks at his dead General.
Anakin slowly stands up, Obi-Wan nestled to his chest. If one wasn’t looking at the blaster wound to his chest, one would almost think that Obi-Wan was peacefully sleeping as Anakin carried him away.
The 212th form a circle around Anakin and Obi-Wan, protecting their fallen General as they retreat.
They head back to the Negotiator and Helix takes his fallen General to the med bay.
Anakin sits outside as does Cody. Helix comes out, even the cold Medic had tears in his eyes. Helix gulps and then speaks. “The blaster bolt went straight through. He didn’t feel a thing.” Helix somberly states.
Anakin stands up and punches the wall and then collapses on the floor. “Why would Rex shoot him? Why?!” Anakin cries.
Finally, tears stream down Cody’s face as he breakingly answers. “I don’t know, Sir. I don’t know”
