Chapter Text
“What about Will?” Harry said taking a seat on the living room couch.
“Are you joking?” Ginny answered, propping her feet in Harry’s lap.
“No, I actually am not.” That earned him a glare from Ginny, who reached for the remote on the table next to her.
“Did you forget my dear brother Bill?” she asked, turning on the tv. Harry groaned, tilting his head back letting it rest on the back of the couch.
“How are we supposed to find a name we both like that is not used by any of our relatives, boy names are scares you know?” Harry lifted his head to look at the tv.
“We can always go with Gideon, but frankly my parents already named George after him, so I am not really prone to repeating.”
“I’ll go get the list.” Harry lifted Ginny’s legs gently, placing them on the now empty seat as he stood up and walked over to the study. He picked up the notepad that was left on the desk and walked back.
“So, the contenders are still Ethan, Aiden and Finley.”
“Yeah, I still can’t decide, and we have less than a month by the look of it,” Ginny looked down at her belly. Harry sat next to her again and let her rest her feet on his legs.
“Well at least we are still set on the last name.”
Ginny glared at him, “Very funny.”
Harry’s phone buzzed and he fished it out of his pocket. It was a text from Sirius.
Sirius and Remus had taken care of Harry since the day of the car crash that killed his parents. They had done everything to be the best of parents to him, but every once in a while, Harry could see a sad glance in his direction, muffled conversations on whether they are doing what James and Lily would have wanted. Harry had loved every part of his childhood with them, they had taken him to an insane amount of concerts, spending weekends at Remus’s bookstore or running the halls of the art museums Sirius worked at. They made him happy and when 12 years ago when Harry was 15, they brought home his brother Teddy. There was so much love in that family, but Harry sometimes couldn’t stop thinking that he was the reason that his parents were dead, that somehow, he always brought bad events to the people closest to him. It had taken him years to try and live with all that guilt and not blame himself for everything. Sirius and Remus had always been there for him and talked to him about his parents, what they were like and all the trouble they had gotten themselves in when they were in school. But despite all that one thing he kept blaming himself for was Regulus Black.
“Sirius is asking if we can take Teddy tomorrow after school. They need to attend to some museum evening,” Harry read.
“I can pick him up on my way home,” Ginny yawned and turned to face Harry.
“You’re going to work?” he slid his phone back in his pocket, resting his hands on her feet.
“Just to pick up the new edition of the magazine plus I wanted to go see everyone.”
“Want me to drive you there?” Harry started rubbing her feet gently.
“No, I don’t mind driving myself, but don’t you have work?”
“I have to go in until noon for a recording and I was thinking of taking Jamie and you for a walk in the afternoon.”
“I can go to the office in the morning with James and meet you afterwards?”
“Sounds good.”
Ginny reached forward for the remote, “I think I’ll head upstairs.” She passed him the remote.
“No, I’ll go upstairs with you.”
The house they lived at was the house his parents had left him. A two-story town house, with a small garden at the back. Sirius had given him the keys once he turned 18 letting him choose if he wanted to keep staying with them or move on his own. From the front door, the house felt like it belonged exactly to the people living in it. It told a story of everyone who had passed through its doors. A narrow hallway with white wood panel walls decked with pictures and album covers, coat racks and a shoe dresser. However, most of James’s tiny shoes were scattered on the colorful tiled floor. At the end of the hallway was a white wooden staircase with carpeted stairs. The glass and teal painted wooden wall to the left of the stairs led to the living room, a fireplace set at the wall, big windows with a door leading to the garden at the back, couches and were facing the fireplace and a tv was mounted on the wall above it.
To the right of the staircase was the kitchen, white and teal cabinets, black and white tiles, and a kitchen island with a few bar chairs around it. A big dining table was set at the back facing the windows to the small garden. Cabinets with dishes and glasses were on both sides of the table. All the walls had pictures and art, framed magazine or album covers. Upstairs were currently their bedroom, two bathrooms, James’s room, a guest bedroom, and a small office.
Ginny headed to bed and Harry peaked into Jamie’s room. The two-year-old was sleeping peacefully. Harry smiled at the sight of him and was brought back to the pressing matter of the name they were still in the search for. With James it seemed to be easy, Ginny was the one to bring it up, knowing Harry was not sure how she felt about it.
Harry leaned against the wall next to the door, he had talked to Sirius about what was on his mind, and he had fully supported it. The day of the car crash, Sirius’s brother Regulus was the one driving behind his parents’ car. Regulus was the one who had pulled him out of the car and be the one crushed by the tree instead of Harry. He had asked Sirius how he felt about Harry naming his son after Regulus and now was thinking how to bring it up to Ginny.
“What do you think about Regulus as the middle name?” Harry asked coming out of the bathroom.
“Middle name? Why not the first name?” Ginny asked lifting her head a bit to look at him from the bed.
Harry smiled, heading over to the bed, “Sirius told me when they were little, they swore to never let anyone be cursed with weird names if they can help it, so I guess I am trying to honor that.” He slid under the covers. Ginny reached for his tanned hand, tracing the fine lines of his tattoos, and smiled. She turned to her side to face him, running her fingers through his messy black hair.
“Jude Regulus Potter,” she smiled.
“Jude?” Harry let out a laugh.
“I don’t know, I just thought of that day at the library when you took my earphone, and I was listening to the song.”
“Ahh, the day we went to the records shop down the street,” he said taking his glasses off.
“Yeah, you were surprised that I actually liked that song, all of the songs on the playlist actually.”
Ginny was getting ready to head home from the library, piling her books in her bag. Before putting the last notebook in, she fished out her phone and headphones. Right as she was about to stand up somebody sat in the chair next to her. Before looking to see who it was, she was irritated that the person choose this seat when most of the ones on the big table she had sat on were empty. As she was about to look, the person reached and plucked the earphone out of her ear and into theirs. Ginny was about to yank it out when she saw it was Harry, her brother Ron’s friend. She rolled her eyes and sat back in her chair.
Harry came over quite often after school to hang out with Ron. A few girls in her year had a crush on him, but Ginny couldn’t really place how she felt about him. He was cute sure, dark tussled hair, tan skin, and glasses, wearing those distressed jeans that constantly got him in detention and the leather jacket that was ‘discreetly’ hidden under his school blazer. She liked him… for the most part. He was really annoying almost all of the time and yet she couldn’t figure out why she liked him.
She looked at his face to only find it bearing a confused expression.
“What?” she whispered standing up and grabbing the other end of the cord. Harry stood and headed to the door with her. Jumping up and down behind her, a gesture Ginny mostly saw as annoying.
“I want to see what’s on that playlist.” Harry jumped in front of her once they were out of the library.
“None of your business Potter,” she kept walking and rolled her eyes seeing that Harry was still following her. “What is it that you want?” she stopped and faced him.
“Oh, you know just hanging out with my mate’s sister is all.”
“Well don’t.” Ginny turned around and began walking.
“Come to the records store with me.” Harry yelled after her.
Ginny stopped and turned, “Is this some sort of weird bet with my gross brother?” Harry blinked one too many times and shook his head, his face flushed. Ginny was confused. Her heart skipped a beat at the sight of him and now he was asking her out? She smiled, “Very well Potter, lead the way.”
“Jude Regulus Potter, I love it,” Harry said and kissed her.
