There was going to be a meteor shower, and Hana didn't want to miss it. She had a fascination with stars, along with pretty much anything related to an outer space aesthetic. She hadn't missed a single meteor shower since she was seven years old, weather permitting.
She thought about going to see it alone, as usual, but she had just been on the phone with Tohru, so she decided to call her back.
"Hello?" Tohru's sweet voice called from the other line.
"Tohru. Did you know... there's a meteor shower, tonight?" Hana started. She tried not to sound too excited, in case it wasn't Tohru's thing, because she didn't want to get her own hopes up.
"Really?" Tohru asked. "That sounds cool!"
Hana gulped silently. Why was she so nervous? "Would you... like to come with me to see them?" she asked hesitantly.
"Sure!" Tohru responded cheerfully. "Let me get ready. I'll see you in a little bit."
"Ok," Hana said, relieved. "Meet me at my house."
"Will do!" said Tohru before hanging up the phone.
Hana checked the mirror to make sure that she looked presentable. She had never been vain, but for some reason, she wasn't sure if Tohru would rather see her hair up in a braid, or down with a headband on.
When Tohru arrived, Hana opened the door and welcomed her in.
"The meteor shower will be visible from my bedroom window," she explained. "Would you like me to serve you some tea while we wait for the show?"
"Ok!" Tohru replied with a smile. "That would be lovely."
Hana carefully crafted tea exactly how she knew Tohru would like it. "Here you are," she said, offering Tohru a tea cup and silently praying that her hands would not tremble.
"Thank you," Tohru said softly, taking the tea cup from Hana.
Their eyes met, and for just a single instant, Hana wished that Tohru would allow her hand to linger against hers for a moment longer. "Of course," Hana nodded, barely above a whisper.
Tohru looked so pleasant as she drank her tea in silence. The happiness on her face was more of a compliment to Hana than any spoken word she had ever heard before. She could stare at Tohru's beautiful face forever.
Then, Hana remembered her own cup of tea, and began to drink it quickly, lest Tohru caught her staring.
"So, when will the meteor shower start?" asked Tohru, setting her tea cup down.
Hana mimicked Tohru's movements, setting down her tea cup as well. "It should start soon," she noted, moving her head to check the grandfather clock in the next room.
"Should we go to your room, then?" Tohru suggested.
"Yes," Hana said, feeling her cheeks become warmer. "I'll clean this up."
As Tohru sauntered off to Hana's bedroom, Hana stayed behind and cleared the table. Tohru had been in her room so many times before; why was it only making Hana feel funny this time?
Hana entered her room to find Tohru sitting on the floor, next to her open window, gazing up at the sky. "It's so beautiful!" Tohru sighed.
Hana smiled and covered her mouth with her hand. "The meteor shower hasn't started, yet," she pointed out.
"I know," Tohru answered. "But the view is still really pretty," she added.
"Yes," Hana said, looking at Tohru's face. "It is."
Just then, a shooting star flew across the night sky. "Make a wish!" Tohru gasped.
Hana closed her eyes and wished that Tohru would be her girlfriend.
