Work Text:
The first time Sapnap received a birthday present from Dream was when he turned fourteen. Dream had mentioned he sent something over call, trying to hide the excitement behind giggles and jokes to the younger. Sapnap didn't think anything of it, expecting a small card with a note or something, so he was surprised when a medium sized box showed up at his door.
Inside was his favorite candies, snacks, and sodas he mentioned liking to Dream maybe once or twice, and the very bottom was a small panda plushy. Taking everything to his room, setting up the snacks on his desk and the panda bear on his bed, Sapnap knew his feelings for Dream went a little more than friendship, but that was a problem for older Sapnap.
—
High school was hard for Sapnap. Yes, he kept straight A’s, and always made the honor roll, but not having anyone you can be close with was hard on a teen boy.
Sure, he had friends and he talked to people about things, but he couldn't talk to them about everything.
Dream, however, was his go to source. He quickly realized that Dream was his best friend. They talked all the time and he was always in his mind.
He could go to Dream for anything, and Dream came to him for everything too.
“I think I like her Pandas.”
That made Sapnap slowly look up from his homework. Dream was now seventeen, and Sapnap was fifthteen. Talking about girls was what guys their age do.
“Oh. What makes you think you like her?” Sapnap asked, trying not to sound bitter as his homework now lays forgotten.
“Well, she helped me out yesterday with my math homework. And we didn't really talk before but another girl in our class mentioned something about how she must have a crush on me. Didn't really think about it till now.”
“Well, the way I see it,” Sapnap stated slowly, “you didn't really know this girl right? She just helped you out with something because she might have a crush on you. Maybe you just feel obligated to like her back because she did a good deed.”
Sapnap sat quietly for a moment. He didn't want to give Dream wrong advice, but he also didn't want Dream to ask someone else out. Maybe it was time to explore his, more than friendship feelings.
“You're so smart Nick!” Dream exclaimed, making Sapnap jump a bit.
“Gosh, you always know how to get me out of stupid ‘i'm in my head about this’ stuff. I'm glad to call you my best friend… you're my favorite person,” Dream finished his sentence with a small chuckle.
Sapnap smiled and blushed before he spoke up.
“You’re my favorite person to Clay!”
Yep, he was definitely in love with his best friend.
—
The first time Sapnap saw Dream’s face was when he demanded to know what Dream looked like with his glasses on. The blonde wouldn't stop complaining about getting glasses, and weeks went by of Sapnap hearing ‘they make my face look boxy’ or ‘it makes my nose look bigger.’ Sapnap finally cracked when he said he looked just straight ugly.
“Oh my god dude, just let me see. You’re probably complaining about nothing!”
“Pandas-“
“No! Don't Pandas me. You’re probably just in your head again about it! Please just let me see you.”
“Fine… but no screenshotting!”
Sapnap sat on his bed with his phone on his lap. He could hear Dream moving around on his side, probably trying to find a good angle. Minutes went by before Sapnap spoke again.
“Dream, are you still there? I didn't mean to push… I'm sorry.”
Nothing from the other side of the line was heard, the silence wasn’t very promising.
“Dream, really, im so-“
Before Sapnap could finish his sentence, his phone started ringing and saw that Dream was trying to facetiming him. Slowly picking up his phone, he took a small breath before answering.
Dream’s face popped up on Sapnaps phone, making his mouth drop slightly. Sapnap slowly took in all the details of his best friend. His curly blond hair stood out to him the most, then the small freckles lining his checks, the soft pink hue if his lips, why was he staring at his best friends lips?
What caught his attention the most was his eyes. Soft green stood out, gripping Sapnap tight, and his new glasses made them magnified. His eyelashes looked beautiful and huge, his eyes couldn't stop sparkling, Sapnap wanted to dive into the seafoam green and never resurface.
“Pandas?”
The sound of his nickname took him out of his trance.
“You look good, Dream.”
“Pandas… come on. I know I look like shit. You saying it won't hurt.”
“You dont look like shit Dream.”
“I do though. The glasses dont frame my face right. And they keep messing up my hair. It makes my eyes look too big and-“
“Dream! Stop it. Im seriously man, you look-“ Sapnap calmed the nervous butterflies flying in his stomach before continuing. “You look beautiful.”
“Pandas…”
“I'm serious Dream. Your hair looks amazing, and your glasses make your eyelashes look longer. They make your eyes bigger and the color looks so green. They don't cover your freckles and you just look… beautiful.”
Silence rang over the two as Sapnap continued to stare at him. He could see a faint red take over his friend's neck and cheeks before he spoke.
“Thank you Sapnap,” he said smiling, “I've got to go with my parents soon, it's family time or whatever but- i'll text you when we can hop on Minecraft. Bye”
The call went dead before Sapnap could get his goodbye in. Silence rang over him once more, putting his phone down and slowly curling up on himself.
He didn't want to admit it for a while, but realizing he was in love with Dream made him question things everyday. After much needed research, bisexual stuck to his mind. Girls were pretty, but boys were prettier.
He didn't want to come out in a big way. Maybe just telling the people close to him was good enough. But his mind drifted back to Dream.
Would he be upset? Would he not want to talk to him anymore? He could lose his best friend over this life change. So much was already changing with school and meeting even more people online.
So everyday he listened to Dream rant, then they played minecraft while he ranted some more. Sapnap kept this one thing to himself to stop more change from happening in their friend group.
Yep, he was definitely in love with his best friend.
—
Moving in with Dream on one days notice was probably the most idiotic and smartest thing Sapnap could do. After driving twelve hours, all the way from the lone star state Texas, hugging his online best friend/crush was his favorite memory of life so far. Dream hugs felt like summer and something else he just couldn't put his mind on.
He felt Dream pull back slightly, looking up at his best friend smiling at his face, Sapnap knew what Dream was to him.
“You’re home Panda!” Dream yelled, slowly pulling him back in.
“Yeah Dream, im home,” Sapnap chuckled.
Dream felt like home.
Yep, he was definitely in love with his best friend.
—
Sapnap was bored out of his mind. George was probably asleep, Karl was filming, and he had no idea where Dream was in this stupidly big house.
After five months of living together, they got into a routine of not bothering the other when work needed to be done. However, Sapnap was bored and wanted cuddles from his best friend. He got off the couch and made a beeline for Dream's room.
He's gotten into the habit of barging into his friend's room without knocking. Dream always welcomes him with open arms, or a smile and nod to his bed when he’s working. Today however, Dream didn't even notice Sapnap opened the door. His body was forward a bit, trying to get closer to his screen, and his eyes were slightly squinted.
“Hey.”
Dream jumped out of his seat a bit from the sudden loudness that overtook the quiet of the room.
“Oh. Hey Pandas,” Dream said, slowly moving back to the editing software that took over the screen.
“You can go lay in my bed if you like, but I'm gonna be awhile. Nothing seems to be working today.”
Sapnap frowned at him. Dream wasn't wearing his glasses, and his hair was a bit ruffled. His left leg kept bouncing, and every so often he watched Dream rub his eyes.
“Or stare at me like I'm on display. Whatever you wanna do,” he said sarcastically. It's one of those days.
“Where’s your glasses?” Sapnap questioned as he took a step forward.
Dream had a habit of getting into his head with things, especially when it came to content. Then he’d get stressed and forget to eat or wear his glasses. Sapnap always tried to help.
“Don't know. Somewhere in here, maybe?”
“Okay. Well how about we look for them? Didn’t you get ones with the special blue screen lenses last year? You’ve got to wear them before you get a migraine.”
“Don't have time Sap. I need to finish this.”
“Come on Dream. You need a small break.”
When his friend didn't budge from his computer. Still typing and moving around clips, Sapnap tried again. Stepping closer into his friends bubble.
“Come on dude. We won't look for them now, but at least come take a break. We can cuddle and talk about the new plug in George is working on, or take a nap,” Sapnap said, looking at Dream.
Dream took a big breath before looking at Sapnap. His eyes were clearly watery. It took everything Sapnap had to not kiss the tears away.
“I can’t Nick. I have to finish this. The fans are expecting content. I promised them content. It needs to be out by tomorrow.”
Small tears were starting to fall down Dream's face. Sapnap slowly walked to the back of his chair and hugged his best friend from behind. He let Dream cry it out softly, perfectly content with being a weighted blanket
to keep his best friend safe.
“Dream,” Sapnap spoke softly in Dream's ear after a bit, “I know you want to make the fans happy but you also have to take care of yourself. You've been working non stop these past couple of days and i dont think ive seen you leave your room. Let's go cuddle for an hour and take a small cat nap. That way you are refreshed to start working again. Plus it’ll give your eyes a break since you don't want to wear your glasses.
He heard a small scoff come from Dreams mouth as he felt him slowly get out of his chair. He pulled him to his bed, sitting up against the headboard with Dreams' head laying on his lap.
“I swear you never shut up about my glasses.”
“How can i? You look beautiful in them.”
“You said that when I first showed them to you. Said I'm always beautiful, with or without them or whatever.”
“They’re one of my favorite things about you Dream.”
Sapnap started combing his fingers though Dream’s hair, knowing it helps calm him down.
“What are your other favorite things about me?”
Sapnap knew answering was just setting himself up for confessing. But he wanted Dream to feel better and get him out of his hyper focused mindset. He took his time tell his friend each thing he loved.
“I like your eyes. They’re like a perfect green. Its like walking through a forest after it just rained. Your hair is nice too,” he said as he slowly curled some around his finger, “its curly, and it's so cute when you wake up and it's still all over the place. You have freckles dotting your nose and cheekbones, they remind me of stars for some reason. And your lips—“
Sapnap stopped before he got too far. He didn't mean to go so far. He was about to open his mouth to apologize, but was cut off by Dream lifting his head off his lap, sitting up and staring at Sapnap.
“What about my lips?” Dream asked him with a slight sparkle in his eyes. A soft peach color dusted his cheek.
Sapnap looked at his friend with his mouth slightly open. He could feel his neck and cheeks heat up with embarrassment, but before he could say anything else, Dream spoke again.
“You know what my favorite thing is about you, Sap? Your hair is so fucking perfect, and your eyes. And you're always there for me. You fight for me with the haters, and you make sure I eat, or rest, or wear those stupid glasses when I work so I don't get a migraine. You call me pretty and beautiful and… you look at me like I'm the world. You have the most amazing thighs I've ever seen. Like omg, I stare at them all the time, especially when you wear shorts.”
Dream took a small pause. He slowly leaned further into Sapnaps space, looking down ever so slightly at his lips before speaking again.
“And your lips. They are so pink and so plump. Everytime you smile I can't help but smile. And I'd do anything to kiss them. I really want to kiss them.”
Sapnap took a small breath. Staring into his friends eyes with love and lust.
“Maybe you should Dream. Cause maybe that's why I like yours a lot too.”
Dream smiled slightly as his hands came up to cup Sapnaps jaw. Sapnap took another deep breath before closing the gap between them.
He felt Dream lips on his, both still as they got used to the feeling, before he felt Dream start to move. Sapnap followed suit, a small kiss now turning into a small make out session.
Dream tasted like oranges. Sweet citrus made Sapnap want more. He opened his mouth slightly as an invitation, which Dream accepted immediately. He explored his mouth, slightly nipping his bottom lip occasionally, as Sapnap slowly climbed into Dream’s lap.
Dream grabbed his waist and moved his head to accommodate the new position. Sapnaps hands moved to grip Dream’s hair, allowing him to move Dream as he liked, before Dream slowly pulled away.
“Shit.”
The two slowed their breathing down before Sapnap smiled. He kissed Dream’s cheek before speaking.
“So, my thighs huh?”
“Oh my god, shut up,” Dream giggled.
Sapnap joined in before resting his forehead on Dream’s, while also eyeing Dream’s computer.
“Do you want to work on your stuff again?” Sapnap asked, moving his head ever so slightly.
Dream hummed out as if he was thinking. Before slowly shaking his head and kissing Sapnaps neck.
Sapnap gasped slightly as he felt Dream’s teeth sink into the delicate skin.
“The fans can wait,” he said after leaving a small mark and moving on to make another one, “I wanna show my boyfriend why I love his thighs so much.”
He slowly lowered Sapnap onto his back. Kissing him everywhere he could.
“Boyfriend?” Sapnap asked between kisses.
“Yep.” Dream said, kissing him once more on the lips.
Sapnap wrapped his arms around Dream’s neck, deepening the kiss as he felt Dream’s fingers sliding down his chest. He was definitely in love with his best friend. His best friend was definitely in love with him. He’ll definitely like this change.
