Sunflowers

Summary:

Hana and Tohru have a picnic in a field of sunflowers. Third person point of view, Hana's perspective.

Work Text:

It was a lovely spring day, and Hana had invited Tohru for a picnic. They sat on one of Hana's blankets and ate takoyaki. Everything around them looked so green, lush, and beautiful. Hana loved catching a glimpse of the sunflowers behind Tohru every time she turned to look at her.

"Thanks for inviting me," Tohru said, taking a piece of takoyaki in her chopsticks.

Hana smiled. "Of course," she replied softly. She loved spending alone time with Tohru. She wished that she was brave enough to ask Tohru out on a proper date, but for now, this would have to do.

"These are delicious!" Tohru marveled. "Did you make them yourself?"

"No, I had help," Hana answered matter-of-factly. In truth, she had burnt the first batch, and her brother and mom helped her with this batch.

Hana was so worried about impressing Tohru, that it took her mind away from things that she intended to focus on. She had burnt the takoyaki whilst wondering if there was anything else she could do to win Tohru's affection. She panicked so much when she realized that she burnt it, that her mom and brother came to help her, because Hana was on the verge of tears. Was anything she did in her life ever going to be good enough for Tohru?

"Hey... what's wrong, Hana?" Tohru asked gently, resting her hand gingerly on Hana's shoulder.

Hana snapped back to the present. "Nothing," she shook her head, putting her hand on top of Tohru's.

Tohru's eyes softened, and she slowly smiled at Hana. Hana would do anything for that smile. It brightened up her life, just like the sunflowers brightened up the field around them.
