Work Text:
The cypress wooden door slowly creaks open as Korra opens and closes it.
Entering the penthouse apartment, she surveys the expansive living room and kitchen, but doesn’t see anyone in sight.
“...Asami?” Korra calls, looking back and forth. “Helloooo? Anyone home?”
“ Bathroom! ” She faintly hears from off towards the right.
Following where the sound came from, Korra finds herself entering a big bedroom on the corner, with floor to ceiling windows overlooking Republic City.
“Woah…” Korra breathes, awestruck.
Sure, she’s been on the tops of buildings before, but usually she was in the midst of something. Like fighting a giant killer robot, for instance. So she usually can’t spend time to really appreciate the view.
“Like what you see?” A teasing voice says from behind.
Korra spins around to see Asami, dressed in jeans and a simple black tee. She looks beautiful, as always. Though it’s a little odd not seeing her in her usual work outfit, though Korra’s not complaining. She likes it when her girlfriend seems relaxed and enjoying herself.
“Now I do,” Korra cheekily responds, walking over to Asami. “Hi, Asami.”
“Hey Korra.” Asami says with a smile. “Did you bring your stuff up yet?”
“Nah, it’s still downstairs. I wanted to check out my new digs first!”
“Ah, right,” Asami says with a laugh. “You mean you want me to help carry your stuff up, right?”
“Hey!” Korra gasps, faking offense. “I barely have that much stuff anyways. Just a few duffle bags… and all of my workout equipment… and I still need to show Naga around…”
“Right,” Asami sighs. “How much of the apartment have you seen?”
“Just the kitchen and living room. Oh, and part of the dining room.”
“Ok.” Asami says. Suddenly, she grabs Korra’s forearms and tugs her forward. Kissing Korra gently on the lips, she whispers, “welcome home.”
Blushing, Korra holds Asami. “Yeah, this place is pretty nice, but home is wherever you are.” Korra says with a laugh.
Asami’s face goes a little red as well, causing Korra to laugh even harder.
“Ugh, you’re so cheesy,” Asami groans, slinging her arms around Korra and slumping over. Letting her head rest on Korra’s buff shoulder, she sighs blissfully.
Korra hums as she plays with Asami’s lush black hair, and twirls it around in her fingers.
“C’mon, lazy bones. We gotta bring my stuff up.”
Lifting her head, Asami shoots Korra a glare. “Oh, that’s rich coming from you.”
“I’m the avatar! My work never stops.” Korra argues.
“Uh huh.” Asami deadpans. “The classic avatar excuse.”
Korra pouts and tugs Asami by the hand, through the penthouse, and back to the entryway. Going down the elevator, Korra holds Asami’s hand. Stepping out into the lobby, hand in hand with her beloved, sends her back to her first date with Asami. It was over a year ago to the spirit world, and she smiles at the fond memory.
Hand in hand, they begin a new chapter in their relationship.
Side by side, not defined by being the avatar or a world class innovator, but as equals.
