In between holidays

Summary:

Henry hates that everything Christmasy is always up on November 1st. Why can't he mourn his favourite fictional characters in peace?

Notes:

Work Text:

It was the day after Halloween, and Henry was already sick of Christmas. The supermarket had the festive display on already, Twitter was full of holiday memes and Halloween parties were still on Instagram stories. For fuck's sake, Netflix had put on the cheesy Christmas selection. At least he didn't have to work today, so he could still reminisce about his nostalgic Halloween feeling. It was the same yearly: the Marauders' fandom gets sappy because everything happened on Halloween. James and Lily died, leaving Harry to be abused. Sirius found out his brother had died and had to give up his godson just to end up in Azkaban for 12 years for a crime he hadn't committed but still felt guilty about. Remus (who he still thought was very much gay and in love with Sirius) was left alone in the world, thinking every friend of his was either dead or a traitor. Marlene and Dorcas had already died... All the Young Dudes systematically broke his heart, but he kept going back to it. At least Remus wasn’t alone for 12 years in that one.

So that's why his husband found him crying like a baby over fan videos and fanfiction. -What's wrong?- He asked worriedly while sitting down next to him. He took a look at the screen and his doubt was cleared.-Nevermind. Do you wanna rant about it?- Henry looked at Alex with a silly smile on his face.

-Do you mind?

-We've been doing this for 10 years, love, if I minded it one bit, I wouldn't ask. Come on, bring it in.- Henry excitedly got up and talked about his fictional friends and lovers for a while. Meanwhile, Alex just looked at him smiling and nodded along, fully conscious of his love for that man. After a bit over half an hour, Henry collapsed on the sofa and leaned on Alex.

-Thanks, darling. I love you.

-I know, I love you too.- They cuddled on the sofa with The Great British Bake off in the background and Alex eventually fell asleep on Henry's lap. He looked at his husband lovingly.

-Jesus, how did I get so lucky?
