Alex's Eyes

Summary:

Three times Alex's eyes were the source of discussion, because they would be.

Chapter 1: Change Them Back

Chapter Text

Alex had hid their eyes as Superior, knowing what people thought about them. Spooky. Alien. Freak. Their parents called them beautiful, but everyone else had Opinions . It was annoying, if nothing else. They already had a hard enough time tempering their bloodlust to Do Good, to not eviscerate everyone who annoyingly pointed out their ‘spooky ghost’ eyes was easiest if they just pretended not to have them. Apparently rainbow eyes with normal pupils were more kid-friendly.

So when they started dating their high school sweetheart - she was an A tier, already, and damn was she pretty and vain in the best sort of way - they hid their eyes too. And she adored Alex’s rainbow eyes, they were the thing she complimented most beside their power. They considered not telling her, but their parents were right. Secrets weigh on a relationship. Alex could feel them stressing the already fragile bridge of a teenage romance.

They certainly wouldn’t be able to tell her about the bloodlust if they couldn’t tell her about their eyes.

“Hey, K?” They had just finished their chores for the night and cleaned up. Brown eyes met their gaze, the question of what Alex wanted to talk about clear in them. “Y’know I’m really powerful, right?”

“Yeah, obviously. Like, the most powerful hero I’ve ever met at least. Why?”

“Well, and power often shows up in people’s eyes, yeah? When it’s-”

“Your eyes are gorgeous, babe. Did someone say-”

“You don’t know what my eyes look like,” they snapped, pulling back from their power’s edge of bloodlust. This conversation wasn’t going how they wanted it to. Weren’t heroes supposed to be empathetic or something? Or at least pretend to be, like them?

“I- babe .” She stepped forward and touched Alex’s cheek, smiling at them. They didn’t even dare to breathe, not after they got so close to using their powers without thinking a second ago. “Yes I do. Your eyes look like this because of your powers, sure, but your powers are also a part of you. These are your-”

Alex pulled back, shaking their head. “No, they really aren’t. That’s what I’m trying to fucking tell you, K. Those aren’t my eyes. These are.”

She stared in shock, eyes locked with the slitted pupils within golden bright. Alex grit their teeth, waiting, back to not breathing. Eventually, she huffed out a laugh. That made them even more pissed off than they already were, made it even harder to control their powers. “Yeah, okay Alex, very funny. Haha, you have monster eyes. Change them back.” They stared, not responding. “Alex, change them back.”

Alex eventually managed to regain control of their emotions and laughed, blinking rainbow back into their eyes. This definitely wasn’t going to last, if that’s all it took to freak her out. Imagine if she could read their mind. “Anyways, K, you think your parents would mind if you spent the night?” they asked, as if that was what they wanted to talk about the whole time.
