Seasons, Oceans and Dances

Work Text:

Ina is a human. Everyone knows this. Sure she might be a vessel for an outer god, but ao-chan seems just fine staying as a book. Acts more like a cat than anything if Ina is to be honest with herself.

But, she still goes about her day normally. She wakes up and is greeted by the gorgeous sight of small shark sleeping peacefully by her side, her face a precious thing, ancient but still so vivid.

On lucky days, the detective is also there, snuggled close, breathing warm dreams into her nape, sending her heartrate to the clouds.

Today was not one of them.

Sleeply, she stumbles and manages to enter the bathroom before the alluring whisper of the bed beconing for her to come back, wins. A tempting idea, specially today, on her rare, day off.

She washes her face, brushes her teeth and goes to the kitchen to make coffee.

When she gets there, the sweet aroma of roasted black beans finds her and partially charges the low internal battery, her flaps slowly standing up as she breathes in.

Rays of sunshine came from the table as a newspaper flipped pages. The sound of (gluten free!) toast being lightly munched on.

She was home.

Arms coil around Ame's neck and a kiss on the head follows not long after. The detective looks up and smiles.

"Good morning" Her voice is low "Sleep well?"

Ina responds with a noise and decides that kissing her detective was more fun.

Amelia giggles at the multiple soft attacks. It wasn't rare for Ina to show affection, yet she missed this sensation, craved for it.

"I'm taking that as a yes. Coffee? It's still hot so be careful." She says as she pours the black infusion into the Priestess's mug, a lavender purple one.

Ina takes the cup giving her detective one last kiss before sitting across. She stretches, the flaps on her head simingly following the movement and takes a sip, Amelia admires her quietly.

"It's been a while since you've been home. Gura misses you."

"Does she, now?"

"I mean I do too, not often can I have rays of pure sunlight to greet me first thing in the morning, y'know?" The priestess giggles softly as she sips.

"I know" Amelia sighs. "Sorry, this one was giving me trouble. I'm free now though!" She beams before taking another sip from her drink.

Cookie in hand it was Ina's turn to admire her girlfriend. The mix of greens, lemon yellow and sunset pinks tugged at the corner of the Priestess lips.

Spring has never been so pretty, she thinks.

Unconsciously she snaked her other hand across the table and placed over Amelia's, thumb running over old scars and bandaged knucles.

Their eyes met and in silence they sat, enjoying the beauty of impossible colors and the dance of beating hearts.

Endless ocean kissing summer sunrise, makes the detective crave a citrus drink.

The flaps that quietly rested perked up for a second, breaking the spell they put each other in. From the corner, a sea of sky blue watched with a bedhead smile.

"Good morning sleepy head" Sunshine whispered as the ancient shark floated, like Icarus to the sun, she ascended to hers, tail flopping slowly but happily.

She coiled her arms and hugged tightly. A low incomprehensible mumble coming out of her mouth, as cloudy white with strikes of lotus blue curtained the detectives eyes.

"What was that?"

"I missed you" Said the atlantean with a shy soft bite to the detective's cheek.

"Hey that tickles" Amelia giggled and turned her face. Sunset pinks met with lapis lazuli blues, the waves in those ageless eyes full delight as if she basked in the beauty of the goddess of love.

Ina's heart swelled with adoration as ice met lemons in a refreshing summer drink. And before the detective could comment or protest she was drowned in adoration and praise, her lips thieved of their words.

When they break Amelia is breathless, face full of sandy reds. "I missed you too"

The pantheon of olympus smile through her shark, history written in that soft sleepy expression.

She is set free and watches.

Gura slowly paces herself to the other side and it was the Priestess's turn to be praised. What energy she gathered from her sun was spent in the arms of the void. Little soft bites and kisses, Ina's giggles emerging from the tangle of the night and clouds.

"Good morning sharkie, slept well?" Resting her hand on the atlantean's face, she smiles.

"Good until you left" Her shark sat at the end of the table, the detective slowly pushing a plate of strawberries. Ina smiles at that and combs Gura's hair.

She munches slowly saying "Didn't we run out of them?"

"Brought more when I came back"

A happy little hum and a slow tail wag is her reward.

Amelia smiles, and rests her head on her hand. Its been over 5 months since she left.

It wasn't a long case by any margin, she's been gone for way longer before, yet something was different this time. It was a cold place, the sun was hidden for most of the investigation and the bite of winter got to her head, clouded her judgement, broke connections, hid her memories. She couldn't wait to see them again.

Now she's here. Lost in the beauty of her immortals and their simple movements. Gura barely awake but still munching and Ina drinking her coffee whilst checking her phone.

The two oceans threaten to take her heart away but she gives it to them both without a second thought. She gives the entirety of herself to them, like sacrifices to the ancients.

They accept it and hold this offer as their biggest treasure. No fights for who gets more, its an equilibrium, a balance, like a waltz they pace her between their waves and she floats, a boat sailing.

This must be what nirvana feels like, she thinks. Its enough to overwhelm her for a second, a single tear running down her face.

"Ame?" Greece calls for her, a small gentle hand reaching from the ocean and wiping the tear. It looks worried.

"Sorry, sorry." She sniffs "I'm fine"

From behind, the endless one embraces her.

"If there's anything bothering you, we are here" Night surrounds her and the clouds from mount Olympus watch her closely.

"I'm ok, really."

"You sure?" an echo to the ancient's question.

"Yeah." There's a pause, she stares at Poseidon's strongest representant, theres the soft expression she remembers and holds so vividly. The arms of the Priestess are gentle, embracing, it reminds her once again, she's home.

"I missed you both a lot" And she beams. Pure and true, just like the fusion reaction at the sun, this silly mortal illuminated their days, showed them guidance even in their immortality, gave them her treasures.

It's their turn to give back, to thank her.

Like a hippocamp her shark tackles her as if swimming through the ocean. Ina is swift and avoids it but cushions their fall with the extra arms she has.

Her shark hugs the detective, hold her close, praises her in uncountable phrases, happiness raining down, like a waterfall, intense but true. The combined wisdom of her ages enough to formulate new forms of expressions of love yet still falling to the ones that showed just how much value Ame had to her.

The fear of loss that never subsided when her precious detective was out on her cases. She thought about it every day, and even with Ina's assurance that Ame would be fine, it lingers in her heart the steps of solitude from a lonely dance. In all her centuries never has she been this passionate about anything, never has she loved this intensely and sometimes she thinks this torrential down pour might be suffocating and hides, but the brightness of her sun is too great for this to last.

Ina is more subtle, it comes in the gentleness and elegancy of her moves, she held both close and even if the void was a second nature she was everything but cold, she was warmth like a sweater in autumn, the shades of orange coloring the dreams and comforts of one's home. Silly topics to distract the heart, calculated and sometimes too measured of emotion. Her sun illuminating her own notes and reminders that broke down these worries and let her free of these shackles.

And for Amelia? Amelia is the luckiest human on the planet and home was always close and waiting.
