Chapter Text
Prologue:
Izzy Miller looked out of the window from her hospital bed. She had been confined to the bed for a while now. Her heart was failing, and she was going into surgery in about an hour. Her mom was talking to the doctor to figure out how long the procedure would take. This would not be the first surgery Izzy had to have. Her heart had been failing, since she was 13, and she had been in and out of the hospital since. Now years later she was still not getting better. She could see her mother become a bit worried, but she always got worried when Izzy had to have surgery. Her father put a hand on her mother’s should, and Izzy could see the mother relax. When the doctor walked away her mother and father turned around and walked into her hospital room. “Hi darling” her father said as he made his way to her bed and held her hand. Izzy gave a little smile, not wanting to seem nervous, after all she had this surgery before, and nothing went wrong the last time.
“So how many shawarmas do you want when you wake up?” her mother asked. They had made a little tradition every time she had a surgery her dad and mom always got her a shawarma, ever since her first surgery where she had watched the Avengers before and had asked for a shawarma when she woke up like Tony stark did when he had fallen from the sky. “Just one” she replied but her stomach growled, and her father smiled and said, “better make that two”. Her mom laughed and sat down in the chair beside her bed. They all talked and kept the mood up until a nurse came in and got Izzy ready for her surgery. Izzy didn’t really pay much attention, she had done this before so many times and every time she was fine, so she was just looking forward to her shawarma. She was wheeled towards the OR and put on the table. “Now I want you to count down from to for me” the doctor said, as they had so many times before. “Ten… nine… eight” everything became blurry, a screen biped “doc..” and then it all became dark.
“Hey!” was the first thing she heard her eyes still heavy, and Izzy was not ready to be awake yet, her parents just had to wait a bit longer. “hello?... girl” the voice said again. This time Izzy listened more careful it was not a voice she recognized, and girl? Surely her mom and dad knew her name, and any nurse or doctor could just look in her chart. Then she heard cars, she felt someone shake her a bit. She opened her eyes slowly. The light was blinding, she blinked a few times and looked at a face of someone holding her. Dark brown hair, and brown eyes. She blinked again; this couldn’t be real. This guy looked exactly like Robert Downey Jr., but he couldn’t be. She looked around and saw she was on the street in New York. She looked to the Robert look alike again. He sure did look like him. But she was just in the hospital. “Where am I?” she said, her voice sounding a little hoarse. “Uhm in New York?” the look alike said. Izzy just looked confused so he continued “How about we get you inside so you can sit down a bit?” Izzy nodded her head. He helped her inside a tall building into the lobby, and to the nearest chair. “Who are you?” she asked, the look alike looked a bit confused. “You don’t know me?” he asked and when she shook her head he continued “I am Tony Stark” he said confidently Izzy couldn’t hold in a laugh “Tony Stark isn’t real” by the look on his face, she knew that wasn’t the right thing to say. He first looked offended then his look changed to concern. “I think you hit your head when you fell” Izzy went back to looking confused. “Fell? I was in surgery, why am I not at the hospital? Where are my parents? What happened” She looked down at herself and where she expected a hospital gown where jeans, a shirt and a jacket. “Uhm you were walking down the street when you fell right in front of me, lucky for you I caught you, but I still think you might have hit your head. I think we need to get you checked out” He looked around “Jarvis” “yes sir” a voice sounded. Izzy was beyond confused, Tony and Jarvis were from the avengers movies. They weren’t real. Yet this Robert Downey jr. look alike was claiming to be Tony Stark, and the voice sounded a lot like Tonys AI Jarvis from the movies, it even had the same name. It must be a dream, but she had never dreamed while under anesthesia before. She looked at her hands and counted her fingers, while Tony asked Jarvis to do a scan of her. She remembered that in dreams you never had five fingers, but she did maybe it was only sometimes. She looked around for something to read, that was another thing to check if you were dreaming, but when she found a sign that said “welcome to Stark Industries” she could read it. Maybe she should just go along with it. “Everything looks fine” Jarvis voice said, and Tony looked at her again. Wait everything looked fine what about her heart if this really was Jarvis, he could surely see her bad heart. Wait she should have her scars from previous surgeries she took her shirt out to look down, but she didn’t find a scar along her chest, she took her hand up to feel if it was there, but no it was all smooth. Tony looked confused again “uhm what are you doing?” “Looking for my scar” she said before she realized how it must have looked to him. She slowly looked up at Tony and put her hands down to her side. “I don’t really know what is going on” Tony looked at her again “you mentioned parents do you know their phone number? Or where they live?” Izzy nodded and checked her pockets for her phone but didn’t find any. Tony rolled his eyes and handed her his. She typed the number she knew by heart, her moms and pressed call. “I’m sorry the number dialed is not in service” the phone said she tried her fathers, but the same message played. She looked at Tony again. “How about you come with me then we can find your parents… uhm sorry what was your name?” “Izzy, Izzy Miller” she stated. She followed Tony to the elevator, where he pressed a button. When they walked out, she saw a big room, with a sofa and a bar. Tony walked to another room where something turned on and a screen and keyboard was floating like a hologram in the air. Izzy freaked out a bit. Was this all real. It seemed so real, but I couldn’t be, could it? Tony looked at her “what is your parents’ names?” “Zach and Jade Miller” Tony typed it into on the keyboard, but nothing came up on the screen. “Is it spelled correctly?” Tony asked. Izzy just nodded too stunned to speak. Tony then typed in ‘Izzy Miller’ but nothing came up he looked at her again “Try Isabella, that is my full name, but no one uses it” he tried again this time her picture came up, granted a picture of her when she was 10 but it was still her. “Born October 6th, 1998” Tony read then he stopped looked at her, looked at the picture and then back at her “what?” Izzy asked and walked over to read herself “born, yes…” The year of her birthday was a bit wrong but “deceased… January 11th, 2006” She looked at Tony again “Is this a joke? Are you playing a joke on me, because if you are then it is really cruel” Tony just shook his head “according to this Isabelle Miller died in 2006, so who are you?” he asked again the tears came rushing to Izzy’s eyes “that is me” she pointed to the screen. How did this happen. Were where her parents, why didn’t they come up when Tony searched on their name. Tony picked up his phone. “Stay here, and don’t touch anything” he said and then walked out of the room. This was fine for Izzy she needed some time alone anyways.
