Work Text:
Kit was feeling a mixture of anxiety and excitement as she made her way to her first date with Randolph Bell. Despite their close friendship over the years, the two had never taken their relationship to the next level. Kit was a little anxious, and her nerves weren't helped by the fact that she was running late after a long day at work.
As she approached the restaurant, her heart started to race. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, and pushed open the door. Randolph was already there waiting for her, looking incredibly dapper in his sharp suit. She couldn't help but admire the way he looked, so confident and suave.
They greeted each other awkwardly and took their seats at the table. Despite the familiarity of their friendship, the atmosphere felt tense and uncomfortable. Kit tried to make small talk, but the conversation was stilted, and both of them seemed unable to relax and be themselves. She started to regret suggesting this date and wondered if they had made a mistake by trying to take their relationship to the next level. Seeking a more comfortable setting, they decided to drive to their favorite bar. Over drinks, it was easier to open up, and they both started to feel more at ease.
"I don't know why I'm so nervous," Kit said, taking a sip of her drink. "I feel like I'm on a job interview or something."
"I know what you mean," Randolph replied, his voice warm and understanding. "I think we're both just used to being friends, and it's different now that we're trying to be more."
As they continued to talk and catch up, they laughed and joked about the fun times they had shared in the past. The tension from earlier began to dissipate, and they both started to feel more comfortable in each other's company.
But the date ended with an awkward kiss on the cheek, and Kit went home with a heavy heart, doubting Randolph's feelings for her. But Randolph didn’t notice, He was thrilled about the date and eagerly looked forward to their future.
The day went on and Kit tried her best to focus on her work, but her thoughts kept drifting back to Randolph and their date. She couldn't understand why he didn't seem to feel the same way about her. She felt like she was walking on eggshells around him and was afraid of ruining their friendship.
Kit and Randolph were working with a patient, a handsome man in his mid-50s, who was making small talk with Kit and complimenting her. The man's flirting made Kit feel nervous and unsure of what to do.
"So, I hear you're the CEO here at Chastain Park Memorial, how lucky am I?" the patient said to Kit with a smile.
"Only the best for our patients" Kit replied, trying to keep the conversation light and professional.
Randolph was feeling uncomfortable as he watched the man flirt with Kit. He was trying to keep his jealousy in check, but it was a struggle.
Randolph was trying to keep the conversation light and professional, but it was a struggle. He could see the man flirting with Kit, and it was making him feel uncomfortable.
"So, are you seeing anyone?" the patient asked Kit, with a suggestive tone.
Kit blushed and stumbled over her words, "Uh, it’s complicated"
Randolph couldn't take it anymore. He stepped in and changed the subject, "So, Mr. Johnson, how's your pain level today?"
The patient looked at Randolph and then back at Kit before answering, "It's much better, thanks."
The rest of the appointment went by without any further flirting, and both Kit and Randolph were relieved when it was over. As they walked out of the room, Randolph couldn't help but ask, "Are you okay?"
Kit looked at him and nodded, "Yeah, I'm fine. I just wasn't sure how to handle the situation. It was a bit awkward."
"Let's talk," Randolph suggested with a sigh. They entered Kit's office, with Kit nervously scratching her hand, while Randolph appeared distant and serious as he fixed his gaze on her.
Randolph broke the silence, addressing Kit. "I have to be honest, it was difficult for me to witness that man flirting with you just now," he said, his voice filled with emotion. "Can you explain what you meant by saying our situation is complicated?"
Kit's heart sank. She had feared this was the case. "Randolph, I didn't think the date went well. I figured you didn't have any romantic feelings for me."
Randolph looked shocked. "What? How could you ever think that? I've been feeling for you for years”
"Then why didn't you kiss me last night?" Kit asked.
Before Kit could reply, Randolph leaned in and pressed his lips against hers, kissing her deeply and passionately. When he finally pulled away, he looked into her eyes and whispered, "You are everything to me, Kit. I was just trying to take things slow."
Kit smiled and wrapped her arms around his neck. "Slower than this and we'll hit a stop," she whispered back, before kissing him again.
As the kiss became more intense, Kit remembered where they were and pulled away. "Maybe not in the hospital," she said with a laugh.
Randolph grinned. "Tonight? My place? I'll pick you up at eight?"
Kit smiled and nodded. "Yes, tonight. I can't wait." And with that, they shared another kiss, their hearts beating fast with excitement and anticipation for what the future held.
