Work Text:
Eddie loves metal. He’s a metalhead, through and through, he could probably fall asleep with his earbuds in, Slayer blasting in his ears. He did like other music besides metal, but the variety was extremely scarce. But this one artist, he’d listen to him any day. He’d discovered Djo when he went to his local vinyl store, just for a bit of nostalgia, and spotted a new poster, “Djo, Local Hawkins Artist! NEW ALBUM –DECIDE– OUT NOW!” and so, Eddie grabbed an LP from the shelf residing below the poster, and bought it right away.
He didn’t even think he’d like it, but he felt compelled to try it out. And, God, how glad he is that he did. Eddie added all of his songs, yes, all of them, to his playlist, now opting to fall asleep to these instead. Eddie was surprised to find that his favorite song of his, out of all of Djo’s songs, was Figure You Out. If he was being honest, he found the singer’s voice hot as hell.
But, wait, he didn’t even know who the singer was, did he? After his obsession with the artist began, he researched a bit, just a little, to figure out who Djo was. After just looking up a vague “Djo”, he found the name. Steve Harrington. It had a ring to it, he thought. And, shocker! He was hot as fuck. He had soft looking hair that was straightened away from his face, making an elegant swoop in his bangs, but he still had some strands fall in front of his eyes. His eyes, God. Eddie thought they were gorgeous. He had beautiful hazel eyes that crinkled around the edges when he smiled. He had a nice physique too, he wasn’t too muscular, and was soft around the edges in the most beautiful way. Eddie had a little thing for chubbier boys. And, wow, did he definitely have a thing for this Steve. Obviously, Eddie knew he didn’t have a chance, no way would he, Eddie Munson, date a super famous and super hot singer. He’d bet he’s straight, or, even if he isn’t, he probably has a boyfriend, or a girlfriend. No way someone that cute is single.
—
After perhaps two or three months of the discovery of his love for Djo, he quite literally shrieked when he saw that there was to be a concert, and it was even in his city as well, not too shocking considering Steve himself was from Hawkins. The date was in about a month, and he rushed to the website to grab a ticket. He successfully bought himself a ticket, grabbing himself a space as close to the stage as he could get, and surprisingly, he got himself a spot basically right in front of the stage. There were to be autographs after as well, which he most certainly wanted, so he decided he could just take his DECIDE poster to be signed, already giddy at the thought of it.
The month passed so agonizingly slowly, and when the day finally arrived, he rushed to grab his poster, a water bottle, and his keys, driving out to the stage where Djo was performing. He was about two hours early, but honestly he didn’t really care, at least it would be easier to get to his spot. After finding his rightful space right in front of the stage, he felt a strong wave of excitement hit him, and he absolutely couldn’t wait.
When the artist emerged, god, was he pretty. He was wearing this dorky wig, that certainly did not suit him so much, but Eddie didn’t care, he thought he was gorgeous. He had sunglasses on, which he eventually took off, but Eddie thought they suited him.
Steve greeted the crowd, and grasped his orange and black sunburst guitar. His smile was amazing. Eddie nearly melted when he began singing, beginning with End of Beginning, then following up with On and On, and Eddie was entranced.
He stopped himself from screaming when he vocalized the first few lyrics of Figure You Out, and he was smiling ear to ear, as he analyzed the crowd with his eyes, and the metalhead flinched when his eyes settled on Eddie, and he swore he saw Steve’s smile widen slightly, but brushed it off as him just seeing things with his lovesick eyes.
After a few more songs, Steve announced the performance was over, and that people could begin lining up for an autograph as soon as the curtains opened.
Eddie was even more grateful for his spot being so close to the stage, as he was already stood quite close to the stairs at the side of the stage. A muscular looking guy in a full black outfit came out, standing in front of the stairs, waiting to be able to step aside and let the first few people through. Eddie was quite close to the front of the line, but there were still about 20 people in front of him. He couldn’t even get himself to care about the wait, excited to see Steve.
He was practically shining as the line moved up, only two people in front of him. The bodyguard, he assumes, let the two people in front of him, and Eddie past, the small group climbing up the steps and onto the stage.
Steve was sat on a stool, the same stool he was on as he sang, and his guitar was gone, a clipboard in its place. Eddie was quite close to vibrating, the adrenaline making his hands shake slightly. As the two girls in front of him stepped away, Eddie took a deep breath, and stepped forward, smiling as he handed Steve his poster. “Hey,” The singer said, with a warm smile. “H-Hi” Eddie blurted, so incredibly nervous and excited. Steve smiled wider, “To whom do I address this to?” Eddie nearly asked what he meant but realized, “Oh, Eddie, please.” Steve nodded, “Is this for you?” Eddie nodded quickly, smiling once more. “Alrighty, here you go. Hope you enjoyed the show, Eddie,” He nearly gasped at the use of his name, and he smiled toothily as Steve handed him the poster back, their fingers brushing, and when he looked up at Steve’s face, Steve… winked at him? Holy shit.
Embarrassed, Eddie continued smiling, thanked him quickly, then stepped away, waving softly. Steve waved goodbye back, then turned to the next person.
”Holy shit,” He breathed. When Eddie finally leaves the sweaty building, he gets into his car, then takes a few breaths, reasonably freaking out considering the fact that his celebrity crush winked at him, Jesus Christ.
After he’d calmed himself down a bit, he unrolled the poster, to peek at the autograph. His jaw dropped as he saw numbers scrawled out in metallic silver ink, the words “Text me ;)” written underneath them. “Holy shit!” He screamed, thinking this must be a joke.
Before he texted the number, he decided to drive home first, wanting to be in the comfort of his apartment as he was trolled by his favorite hot as hell singer.
—
He soon arrived home, climbing up the stairs to his apartment door, and then after he locked the door behind him, he kicked off his shoes and shed his jacket, abandoning both clothing articles on the floor. Plopping down on the couch, he pulled his phone out of his pocket, glancing back and forth between his phone and the poster, typing in the number.
Once he finally had the number typed out, he agonized over what to send. Does he just send a simple “Hey,”? Or is that too casual? He fought with himself, but eventually settled on a lame “Hi,”
Eddie flinched when five minutes later, his phone chimed, signaling a text message. He snatched his phone up, staring at the screen.
Eddie: Hi
Steve: Hey! Is this Eddie?
He sat there for a second, just gawking at it, before answering.
Eddie: You bet it is
Was that too cringey?
Steve: Great, I thought you’d taken it as a joke or something, I’m glad you texted :)
Eddie wanted to cry.
Eddie: I nearly did, it’s not everyday when your favorite music artist hands over his number
Steve: Aw, I’m your favorite?
Eddies jaw drops as he flushes, so incredibly flustered.
Eddie: Indeed you are, which is surprising considering the type of music I normally listen to
Steve: Well, I’m honored to be your favorite artist, Eddie
Eddie, Sooooo, why did you decide to give me your number? I can’t imagine that’s normal for singers to do
Steve: Yeah, I’d probs get in trouble if I got caught, but, if I’m being honest, I just thought you were really cute, and took the chance
What the fuck? Was he really calling Eddie cute? Holy shit!
Eddie: Oh shit, really?
Steve: Wait, did I read you wrong? My gaydar isn’t exactly the most accurate sometimes.
Eddie: No, no you definitely didn’t, I’m full on gay. I’m just kinda shocked I guess
Steve: Welllll, what do you think about me? I totally get if, like, you’re not looking for anything like that, I just thought I’d go for it
Eddie: I’m definitely not opposed to the idea, I think you’re really attractive
He smacked a hand over his mouth and quite literally giggled.
Steve: Oh, thank god, I was thinking I’d get turned down
Eddie: I’d be shocked if anybody ever turned you down
Steve: You flatter me, I’m not that magnificent
Eddie: I beg to differ, my good sir, you seem like quite the catch
Steve: Yeah? What do you think about us catching a coffee together sometime?
Did he just ask him out?
Eddie: Did you just ask me out?
Steve: I believe I did, yes
Eddie: Holy shit
Eddie: I’m definitely down for that
Steve: Amazing
Steve: What place works for you?
Eddie: There’s a pretty phenomenal coffee shop about three miles from my apartment, I kinda forgot the name of it, but its, like right next to a Barnes & Noble and a TJ-Maxx
Steve: Oh, shit I know that place! I live close to there
Eddie: Then it’s perfect for both of us
Steve: When are you free? I don’t have anymore shows too soon, so I shouldn’t be too busy
Eddie: I’m free anytime, literally
Steve: Then…
Steve: What about right now?
“Holy fuck.”
