ARDEN // Toxic Positivity and Faked Personalities

Summary:

Four swears she can remember it like it was yesterday.

The school...her friends...
The fire...the damn fire...

Four barely made it out alive. Her friends...not so lucky.

What's worse is that Four herself is being accused of it.

Four is struggling to keep up her usual personality, causing it all to fall apart.

Oh yeah and some random guy climbs in through the window to remind her of how much of a loser she is.

Chapter Text

Loud slamming.

Four storms into her bedroom, slamming the door behind her.

She sat down, leaning against the wall, and just...screamed.

That's all she can do right now. She's bottled up her true emotions for so long, hiding behind a breaking façade that should've been thrown away long ago.

She screamed until she couldn't scream any more. Then she just sat there, the silence being filled with her shaky breathing.

Until...click.

Her head jolted up, looking towards the window...to see someone sitting on the inner windowsill.

Normally Four would start yelling about it but she...can't. She doesn't have the energy anymore.

"...What. are you doing. In my house." Four asked flatly, her usual liveliness replaced by a deadpan, annoyed tone.

Heterochromatic eyes met with Four's empty blue ones.

"...Nnnoise complaint?" The stranger said, before nodding.

"Look at me." Four stated. "Look at me and tell me if I look like I give a fuck."

"I'll be honest...you don't. At all. But!" He jumped down from the windowsill, walking up to Four and crouching in front of her. "I can't help but be worried, considering that's all I hear."

Four stared at them. They stared back.

Four shakily inhaled, before burying her face in her hands. "Just get out."

"And leave you here to get an actual noise complaint?" The stranger asked. "Pfft. Nah. I'm in a good mood today, so I'm gonna save you from pissing off the neighbours more."

"I don't give a fuck about what they think. They could break down my door and hold me at knifepoint and I wouldn't care."

"...Jeez. And you're...like...12...? Not even 14 yet and you're spewing "deep" shit." The stranger rolled her eyes, making quotation marks with their hands. "Did your mom take your Roblox or something?"

"Don't even start." Four sighed loudly. "I don't need this shit."

"Nah, but like...you're clearly not okay. I wanna know what's up."

"1. I don't know you, 2. I don't want to." Four replied.

"1. Mars Adilieda, 2. ...Man." Mars shrugged. "Eh, I'll bug you about it another time."

"You say that as if there will be another time."

"Oh, there will."

"Don't make a regular occurrence out of this." Four sighed, standing up.

"Too late! Already planned on coming back tomorrow!" Mars replied.

"Now, bye-bye!" Mars then climbed through the window and disappeared.

Four stared at where he was. What the hell just happened.
