Ping!
My phone rang pleasantly, distracting me from my previous task of staring out my window absent-mindedly. My eyes returned from zone-out land and focused on the culprit of their return. The cursed cell-phone. I picked it up and read the lockscreen.
'Victoria: hey, are u free?' It read.
I smiled to myself, unlocking the device and quickly got to work typing a response.
'I am now that my completely thrilling window watching has been disturbed lol'
Her message came very quickly, maybe she was worried about me returning to my oh so thrilling zone sesh.
'(─‿‿─) well…
I have smth more thrilling?
….mayb.'
'I'm listening.'
'Wanna take a walk w/ me?'
'I'd love to.'
'ᕙ(`▽´)ᕗ!!! Be there soon!!'
With that, I set my phone down and smiled to myself. My chest felt very warm about spending time with Victoria. In the few months I've known her so far, we've grown very close, and I often went over to her house so she could cook for me, or we'd go out to movies.
She always tended to spoil me and typically brought me gifts every time we had an outing.
I couldn't even believe it when she confessed that she had feelings for me.
I stood up from my desk and opted to change out of my pajamas that I was wearing all day and put on my favorite comfortable outfit.
One thing I loved about Victoria, she'd compliment me even if I was wearing a garbage bag as an outfit.
I fluffed up my hair and grabbed a lightweight bag, opting to go sit outside my house to wait for Victoria. As I opened the door, I heard the familiar purr of her motorcycle before the quiet engine cut off. I poked my head out of the doorway and smiled happily at seeing my absolutely gorgeous girlfriend take off her helmet. She immediately spotted me and grinned from ear to ear. She was wearing her normal casual wear of a red tube top and black skinny jeans with high heeled boots. I left the doorway, closing the door and locking it behind me. As I did so, Victoria made the short walk over to me, hugging me from behind and putting her chin on my shoulders.
“Hello my sunshine~!” She said in a sing-song voice.
I leaned my head against her, closing my eyes and just basking in her presence for a short moment. “Hi,”
Victoria let me go and I turned around to face her. I couldn’t help the lovestruck smile that spread across my face as I looked at my girlfriend bathed in the warm hues of the twilight. Victoria wrapped her arms back around me and hugged me tightly, picking me up off the ground and twirling me around excitedly.
“Ah, I am so blessed to see you, I swear you get more and more breathtaking each time I do.” She had a huge grin on her face as she set me down back on the ground, her fingertips lingering on my hips for a few moments.
“So why are we taking an early evening walk?” I asked, as I took her hand in mine as she led us away from my door.
“Mmm… No particular reason, I just think Enumeria looks especially beautiful during the sunset.”
“Oh, well in that case, how about we go to the waterfront?”
Victoria nodded, and we took a turn towards the direction of the waterfront I had suggested. Luckily, it wasn’t too far, and we’d definitely be there in time to watch the sunset. She was right though, the city looked almost ethereal in the glow of the early evening.
“Twilight is my favorite time of day,” I mused aloud.
“I like the sunrise I think. The beginning of a new day used to always give me hope when I needed it the most.” I looked over to Victoria as she said that and her face had a complicated expression on it.
“I can only imagine, you went through a lot.”
“I remember I’d be on the battlefield after a whole night of defending the borders… I think we’d get to close our eyes for less than ten minutes and we’d be called back out for whatever task we were needed for. I’d walk out of my tent and just pray to the stars that someday things would be better.”
“And did it ever get better?”
Victoria looked at me, complete love and adoration in her dark eyes, as she squeezed my hand. “Well of course, now I have you, don’t I?”
My eyes widened, and I blushed furiously, turning my head away shyly. I just couldn’t get used to how easily she sang my praises like that.
“Come on now… I’m not all that world changing…” I mumbled, completely and totally flustered.
“I disagree. The only thing I can compare to seeing you for the first time would be seeing all the colors in the world for the first time. Your kindness and determination shines brighter than any sunshine I’ve ever experienced.” She pulled me closer to her, hugging me close. “I hope to never stop basking in your light.” I leaned against her, sighing softly.
She was so warm, and spending time with her gave me butterflies but also made me feel so whole. To me, Victoria felt like a missing puzzle piece. Being around her felt right. Like we were always meant to love each other.
As we separated, I looked around and noticed we had made it to the waterfront. A few people were around, riding their bikes, hanging out with their own significant others, walking, etc. The area was decorated nicely with healthy trees and various flowers and shrubbery, with a sidewalk and a railing to overlook the water. The slowly lowering sun glittered in warm orange tones across the clear water, and I gravitated subconsciously towards the railing. I was completely fixated on looking at the water. For some reason, I always felt at peace when staring at any bodies of water.
Victoria willingly followed my subconscious movements and stood next to me. She took her arm and draped it over my shoulders, gently nudging me closer to her. As I was reminded of her presence, I looked at her. Her red hair glowed in the light, and the waves reflected back into her dark eyes as she stared out across the water. I turned my head, already feeling a strong blush spreading across my cheeks. Victoria leaned her head against mine, and I scooted a little closer to her in response.
I heard her sigh peacefully, as her grip around my shoulder tightened a little.
“Moments like these remind me why life is worth living.” She finally broke the comfortable silence.
“I agree. It’s the small things. Like that fish jumping out of water.”
I heard Victoria chuckle at my fish comment and I smirked proudly.
We stayed there at the waterfront for a while, not speaking, just silently enjoying each other's company. As we stood there watching the sun dip behind the horizon, our breaths and heartbeats slowly synced, and just like every time I was with Victoria, I felt free and happy.
After it got darker, we separated, and I stretched.
“How about dinner at my place?” I offered. “You can even stay the night if you want.”
Victoria smiled happily and nodded. “That sounds great.”
She stepped closer to me and gently put her fingertips under my chin, tilting my head up for a warm and comforting kiss. Her lips lingered only mere centimeters away from mine as she gazed lovingly into my eyes.
“I love you, sunshine. I always will.”
