Work Text:
Hello everyone, here is another story for my Mental Health Series!
This will be a bit different, instead of taking a mental illness, as I usually do, this will be how it is to work at a mental health unit
Note, that yes, I have worked at a few mental institutions, but I've spent more as a patient the last years, but I felt this might be interesting to read as well. But do know, different places do it different ways, so things in here might not be used other places
NOTE I am not using American intuitions as a base, as I've heard those can be a bit rough at times, and I don't know them well. I've also only worked at voluntary units, not those who do force stays, but know a bit about them, and can cover them as well if people want to
Being admitted can be so utterly terrifying, but usually, it is not that bad as one thinks the first time, and here is a small look into working at one
And as said in the summary, can turn into multiple chapters if this seems interesting
Hope you enjoy
Read and relax
Ace walked into the unit, and he liked to work here, it was a nice place. He had been working here for 3 years now. They tried to keep things calm and nice, for the patients. They all used first names, to make it feel more relaxed, and he liked that. He spent a bit of time out with the patients, before breakfast, before they would have the morning meeting. They were 5-6 nurses in the day, and then 4 in the evening, and 2 at night. He worked on rotation, but usually had the day shift. They also had 12 usual beds, but could house 15 if necessary. But that was rare.
Ace hummed as he moved to the morning meeting, where almost all the workers were at. Just one wasn't present, as one needed to be with the patients, in case. As everyone was settled, the patients were mentioned, and were placed to one of them, while a few had two or three patients, but they tried to keep it at a max, two per worker, but sometimes there were many admitted. After that, the new arrivals were set to a person, and when they would arrive, and which room they would have. Ace got two patients today, the same ones as yesterday, a Nami and Usopp. Usopp had been here for almost a week, and Nami for 2 weeks, so he half knew them well now.
They then went over what kind of things that were planned for today, and when the patients had meetings with the doctors or psychiatrists, and if they, one of the nurses, would join. He liked when he could join, as it could be interesting to hear what the patients said. Then the phones were assigned. They had 3 main phones, but everyone had one, in case, but the more qualified ones had a main phone, where patients that were arriving could call. He got the second main one, while Marco, the one who had been here the longest, got the main one. One more reason they all had one, not only so they could be called if needed, it had a ‘panic’ button, and if pressed, it would sound an alarm to all the phones. He had, thankfully, only used it once, and hoped he wouldn't need it again. But when he thought back, it would have gone fine either way, he hadn't really needed to use it, but he felt he needed it in the moment.
Then the meeting was over, and he headed out, breakfast being done as they had the meeting during, and went to say hello to his patients, starting with Usopp. “Hey, how are you today?” He asked when he got to the room, and Usopp gave a small sound. “Okay. Still weird to be here.” Ace nodded. “I get that, and it is still your first time and first week. Do you need anything?” Usopp shook his head. “No, not really. Just relaxing a bit before I head out to the main area.” Ace smiled. “Good, hope to see you there.” Usopp nodded and he really did hope he would come out, it was always nice to see the patients out of their rooms.
He then went to the second patient, and knocked, before he walked in, and Ace smiled at Nami. “Hey, are you doing okay?” Nami looked a bit unsure. “I just don't feel too well. Can I get some anti nausea meds?” Ace nodded, trying to think. “How long have you been nauseous?” Nami sighed. “Since I woke up. It’s not terrible, but I don't like to be nauseous.” Ace nodded, he got that. “I do need to ask a doctor. I’ll be back in a minute, okay?” Nami nodded, and he left to speak with her doctor, who should be available now.
When he got to the door, he gave a knock and waited for the “Come in,” And opened the door, making the doctor look at him, one of the more experienced ones, Law Trafalagar. “Ace, what may I do for you?” Ace hummed. “My patient in room 210, Nami, is feeling nauseous, and wants some anti-nausea medication. But I do remember she started Abilify yesterday, and wondered if it might be that.” Law nodded. “I see. It most likely is that. Is it bad?” Ace shook his head. “No, she said it wasn't terrible, she just doesn't like to be nauseous.” Law nodded. “Tell her that if she throws up, or is feeling sick tomorrow, she can. But it is most likely the medicine, and it will pass.” That was what he thought as well, and nodded. “I see. Thank you.” Law nodded. “No issue.” Ace then left and closed the door.
He then went back to the room and looked at Nami. “It is most likely the new medicine that's making you nauseous. If you throw up or are feeling it tomorrow as well, you can get some. But we don't like to give medicine against medical nausea, as it most likely won’t help.” Nami frowned a bit. “I started it yesterday? And I can already be nauseous?” Ace nodded. “Yes, it is one of the most common side effects, and usually lasts a day, unfortunately. But it should pass.” Nami blinked. “Oh, I see. Didn't think it could come so quickly.” Ace smiled. “It can, but hopefully, you will be feeling well again tomorrow.” Nami nodded, and gave a smile “Thanks, though.” Ace shook his head. “No issues. Don't be afraid to call for me, okay?” Nami nodded. “I won’t.” Ace nodded. “Good. If I don't see you out, I’ll pop in a bit later.” Nami nodded, and he left, hoping he would see her out. She wasn't so sure of herself in social situations, and tried to keep to herself, and hoped she would grow more confident and sure here.
He then sat out in the common area, speaking with some of the other patients that were out, before Usopp came, and that made him glad, to see him out, and he did his best to include him in the conversations if he seemed interested. He didn't see Nami though, and after an hour, he went to check on her, and when he got to her room, he looked at her. “Hey, you still feeling nauseous?” Nami nodded with a sigh. “A bit. Don't really feel like being out.” Ace nodded. “No, I get it. If you want, I can show some breathing exercises that could help?” Nami blinked. “Yeah, I would like that.” Ace smiled, and moved more into the room, sitting down in an empty chair.
When he was seated, he looked at Nami. “Okay, so, you moved your hands with the breathing, as it can help. Hold them up in front of you,” Ace showed and Nami mimicked, before Ace nodded. “Good. And then lift them a bit up as you breathe in, and use at least 5 seconds to breathe in.” Ace showed, and Nami mimicked, before Ace spoke again. “Hold it for at least 5 seconds, no more than 8. Then move your hands down as you breathe out for 5 seconds.” Ace did and Nami mimicked, which was good. They then repeated it a few times, before he smiled. “Hopefully, that can help.” Nami nodded. “I think it did actually.” Ace smiled. “Good. That's good. Do you feel like coming out a bit?” Nami gave a small sound. “Maybe a bit later?” Ace nodded. “Yeah, that's fine. I hope I’ll see you out.” He really liked to see them outside the rooms.
He then left the room, and went back to being outside in the common area. Usopp was still out, which was good, and they spoke a bit, as not that many were out. But most used the morning in their rooms, and came out after lunch. And then again in the evening and after dinner. It was just how it was. The day then went on, Usopp going back to his room after a bit, and Ace stayed out for now, being with the other patients. WHen around an hour had passed, Ace walked to Usopp’s room, and when he got there, he smiled at Usopp. “I just wondered, if you would like a shower today? We spoke about that yesterday.” Usopp nodded. “I know. And I would like to try.” Ace nodded. “Yes. Do you know about when? So I can reserve a shower?” Usopp thought for a few seconds. “Maybe at 2pm?” Ace nodded. “That sounds great. I will reserve the closest shower, I will show you the way when you want to shower.” Usopp nodded and smiled. “Yeah, thanks.” Ace shook his head. “No, it is no issue.” Many did wonder why they didn't have showers in their room, but that just wasn't the best, as they tried to get people out of their rooms, and it was easier to look out and for the patients if it wasn't. He knew a few other units had showers to the rooms, but they didn't. But then again, this was an old building. The newer ones had showers in the rooms.
When the clock neared 2pm, he went back to Usopp’s room, and asked if he needed some more towels, or soap, or shampoo/conditioner. He did ask for one more towel, and he got that for him, before he walked him to the shower. They had two showers, but this one was the most liked. People said the other one was so open and there was a window that usually scared some, this one, didn't have a window, and one could see the lock on the inside of the door, so one could be sure it was locked. There was also a sign which said ‘occupied’ on it, just a small extra, but some did forget to slide it to the right one, either to show it was occupied or that it was available. But they usually knew when it was being used.
He then let Usopp shower in peace, but kept half an eye down the hallway for the shower. And when he noticed Usopp coming out of it, Ace waited a bit, before he walked to Usopp’s room, and asked how it had gone, and Usopp nodded. “It went fine. A bit scary.” Ace nodded. “Many feel that, as it is a new place and there are others here.” Usopp nodded. “Yeah, but it felt good to shower.” Ace nodded. “That's good. And, if you need it, you can wash your clothes here, we have a washing machine and a dryer.” Usopp blinked. “You do?” Ace nodded. “Yes, if you need it, I will show you to it, and how to use it.” Usopp nodded. “Good to know, but I think I’m good.” Ace nodded. “That's fine, just if you should need it.” He then spoke a bit about usual things, before he left, heading to check on Nami.
When he got to Nami’s room and inside after knocking, Nami was sitting in her bed, being on her laptop. “Hi, are you feeling any better?” Nami shook her head. “Not really.” Ace nodded. “That's not good. Do you feel worse?” Nami shook her head. “No, I don't.” Ace nodded. “That's something. Be sure to get me if you feel worse.” Nami nodded. “I will.” Ace then left, and the day went on. He didn't see Nami out, before his shift was over, and he headed home.
The next day, Ace sat in the morning meeting, Marco going over the new arrivals, before he looked at him. “And you Ace, you're going to get a new one, his name is Luffy, he will be arriving at 11am. The file is already here, try to read it before he comes. Doctor appointment at 1:30pm, with Law. Beside that, you have Nami.” Ace nodded. “I will be prepared.” Marco nodded and then went to the next new one, which Izou would get, and then went around and said the general status of their patients and what a few wanted to work on and how they could help. The meeting then ended, and he said hello to his patients, before he prepared for the new one, reading his file, and it seemed like an interesting one. Which made him speak with Marco, and ask if maybe the student, Haruta, could join him in taking in this patient, as Haruta should learn the most. And Marco agreed, so he went and found Haruta. Who was a bit excited, and he said to read the notes before the patient came, which she went to do.
He then checked on Nami, and when he got there, he asked if she still felt nauseous, and she shook her head. “No, I don't. It passed tonight.” Ace smiled. “How good. Do you need anything?” Nami shook her head. “No, I don't. Thanks though.” Ace shook his head. “It is nothing.” Then he left for the common area. When the clock was 10:45am, he noticed a car coming outside, and was most likely the new arrival, Luffy. He then went and greeted him, before they went to the examination room, Luffy looking a bit uncertain. When they got there, he sat down and looked at Luffy. “So, we will just do a few quick tests, and a blood sample, okay?” Luffy frowned a bit. “Okay?” Ace smiled. “First time?” Luffy nodded and Ace gave a supporting smile. “It’s what we do with everyone who comes in. Let me start with a blood pressure and pulse.” And he let Haruta take it, before he double checked it, and it was good.
Then came the blood test, and he looked at Luffy. “Haruta is a student, as I said, would you be okay with her taking the blood tests? Or should I?” Luffy nodded slowly. “Not to be mean, but can you? Not too fond of needles.” Ace smiled. “The reason I asked. Let me just-” He said, as he took a quick sample, and it went fine. Before they took the weight, and then he went to the room that was for Luffy, room 112, one of the larger ones.
When they got there, they sat down, and Ace went over the things they did during the day and evening, when they had meals and activities. There weren't many activities, as they tried to keep things calm. When he was done, he looked at Luffy. “I know this might be overwhelming, many think that the first time they are admitted, but it will calm down. You will get the hang of it after a few days. I will be outside, if not, I am in the room to the right, a small office with a large glass window. If I don't see you, I will pop in again now and then. Okay?” Luffy nodded. “Okay.” Ace smiled. “Do you need anything now?” Luffy shook his head. “I don't think so…” Ace nodded. “Be sure to let me know if you need anything.” Luffy nodded, and Ace left, so he could get accommodated in his room.
He didn't see Luffy outside the room the next hour, and after two, he went and said hello again, and Luffy seemed to have tried to get himself accommodated, now sitting on his laptop, and Ace moved to sit on a chair. “We’re soon heading to the doctor. Is there anything you would like me to help you remember to take up? As the first meeting can be hard.” Luffy thought for a few seconds. “Maybe that I want to be able to… not be so paranoid of things.” Ace nodded. “What things?” Luffy gave a small sound. “Like, not always think everyone is thinking negative things about me, or thinking people are following me or watching me. I know most have enough with themselves, but it is so hard. Or afraid to lose things.” Ace nodded. “Many think that, and you are right, most have enough with themselves. Anything else?” Luffy shook his head. “I don't think so.” Ace nodded. “That's fine. I’ll come back soon and show you the way to the doctor.” Luffy nodded and he left.
Ace then went to the common area, and Usopp was now outside, which was good, and he spoke a bit with him, before he went and got Luffy and followed him to the doctor, where both of them sat down. Law then introduced himself, and said what his education was, before he asked Luffy to tell a bit about himself, and Luffy took a breath, before he said he lived alone, he had moved out not that long ago, and things had been a bit tough, the reason he now was here, for the sudden spike of paranoia. It made Law nod, before he said some words on how paranoia worked, before he asked Luffy for some examples. And Luffy did his best to say those.
When he was done, Law nodded, and mentioned some medicine that could help, but mostly they used exposure therapy, and then said what that was. When he had that, Law asked if there was anything else, and Luffy shook his head, making him speak up. “You mentioned to me you wanted to feel less paranoid of losing things.” Luffy blinked. “Oh yeah, I am. Like, I can check after my wallet and phone for what feels like each minute, just to be sure I haven't lost it. And after just checking it, I am scared and need to check it again. It takes so much time.” Law nodded. “I see. I will discuss a bit with the others, but we will discuss some medication that might help a bit, just something small.” Luffy nodded, and seemed happy with that.
They then spoke a bit more, before Luffy said he could leave, and Ace said he would come check on him in a bit, and that Ace would just talk a bit with Law, before Luffy left, and when the door closed, Law looked at him. “What do you think?” Ace hummed. “He seems to be able to think logically. He knows people are busy with themselves, but he can’t stop those thoughts. I do think exposure would be good for him.” Law nodded. “My thoughts exactly. Make him try to be outside when he can, maybe give him a week plan he can fill out and try to follow.” Ace nodded, and would be sure to write that out and hand it to Luffy.
He then went out and wrote that out at once, before he went to Luffy’s room, and when he got inside, he showed the plan. “Here is what we call a week planner. It has 10 empty spots each day, and you put in what you want to train with and when. Like, trying to sit out with the others in the common area, maybe out a trip, or meals you want to have with the others in the dining area.” Luffy nodded. “Okay. So, I can just walk out and have a trip when I want to?” Ace nodded. “Yes, but on the first day, you always need to be followed. It is just some rules we have. But after that, you're free to roam by yourself, or you can ask to be followed if you want to, and we also have a few walks now and then.” Luffy nodded. “Okay. I’ll try and fill it out.” Ace nodded, that was good. He then left Luffy to do his things. Ace going to the main area.
And after a bit, Luffy came out, which was nice. He didn't talk much, but he was out, reading a few magazines or sitting on his phone. Usopp was also out, as well as a few others. After a bit, Ace moved to grab a magazine, as things were calm, and he looked at the others out. “Are any of you interested in crossword puzzles?” A few nodded, while a few shook their heads, and he looked at Usopp, who shook his head. “Is there a reason you don't like it?” Usopp gave a small sound. “It is just… hard.” Ace nodded and looked down at the magazine. “It can be, but if we all work on it, we might be able to do it.” He then started to say out the hint to the word, and got a few ideas from the patients, but just those who said they enjoyed it. When he had been going for about 10 minutes, Marco came and joined them, giving him a curious look, and he said they were all solving a crossword puzzle. And it made Marco nod, and he continued. And after a bit, the others joined in, like Usopp and Luffy, who seemed to find it interesting. He was just glad they joined, and that it seemed like a good small activity.
When they had solved it, he put it away and chatter started up. The day then went on, and when they had the mid-day meeting, for the evening workers, Marco looked at him. “Also, very good idea with the crossword puzzle, they seemed to enjoy themselves.” Ace nodded. “I thought so as well. It was very nice.” It had been, and he would try and do it again later, if he felt it fit. Then he went home, and did his usual things, before he went back to work the next day.
When he got to work, he had the meeting, before the day started. He checked in on his patients, and Luffy was with them, and he had filled out the plan and he took a copy of it, before giving it back. It had a lot of plans, almost sitting out every hour, with just a few times in his room. He did say he didn't need to follow it if it felt hard, but try to. He felt Luffy sat a bit of an unreachable plan, but Ace would see how it went. He then went to Nami, who still felt fine, and actually felt a lot better, and he had a feeling that was a mix of not being nauseous anymore and the medicine starting to slowly work, probably some placebo as well. He did say this to Law, which he found good. Nami also had a meeting with Law later, and Ace couldn't join that as he was on the walk today. They tried to have one walk each day, and assigned a person to each of them, and tried to make as many as they could join. Sometimes, none wanted, sometimes only one, and a few times, most wanted to join. If too many wanted to join, they needed one more nurse, just in case.
When he was done with that, he got a quick summary from Law, that Nami was doing better, and didn't have more side effects, and would be tried to be released in 3 days, if things went accordingly. Which he found good.
The next day went okay, he did his best in being there for his patients he was assigned, and two days later, he looked at Nami, just going into her room. “I heard you're being released tomorrow.” Nami nodded. “Yes, it is a bit scary, but I want to go home.” Ace nodded, that was good. She had needed a breath from her home. “I get that. And I have a feeling you will do great.” Nami nodded. “Yeah, I hope so.” He then spoke a bit more, before the day went on, and just before he was off his shift, he met with Nami again. “I am on evening tomorrow, so I won’t see you tomorrow, so this is our goodbye.” Nami nodded. “Oh, okay. I am not really sure what to say…” Ace smiled. “You don't need to say anything. What I usually say is; I hope we meet again, but not here. But of course, if we do, we do.” Nami blinked. “Oh, that sounded nice.” Ace nodded. “Just what I like to say. Hopefully you don't need to be admitted again, but don't avoid it if you do.” Nami nodded. “Yeah, and I feel like the line is a bit… easier to cross, since I have already been here once now.” Ace nodded. “Most say that, and feel that. Have a good day, and stay healthy.” Nami nodded. “I will try.”
He then left the room, before he went to write the report for today, before the meeting. He said how Nami was excited to get back home, which was good as she had almost been desperate to get away from home when she first got here, needing that break. He also knew he might run into her after she was released, as it wasn't the largest area where they got patients and most didn't live too far away and there were a limited number of stores. And it wasn't uncommon to run into previous patients. He had been a bit unsure at the start, but now he was used to it and usually knew what to say.
When he came the next day, Nami was gone, and the leaving had gone fine. He knew there was bingo today, and told that to his patients, which included Luffy, and when he told Luffy about it, he seemed to want to join, but also unsure, and when he asked why, Luffy gave a small sound. “I am very scared to get bingo.” Ace nodded. “May I ask why?” Luffy sighed. “Because, then I need to say I got it, and then choose a prize. And to be honest, that sounds terrifying .” Ace nodded. “I see. How about this, I am joining you, but not holding it. I will be sure to sit next to you, and if you get one, just make a motion to me, and I will say you got bingo, okay?” Luffy blinked. “Y-yeah, that sounds nice.” Ace smiled. “Good. Hope to see you then. Do you need anything now?” Luffy shook his head. “No, I don't. But thanks.” Ace shook his head. “No issue. See you later.” Luffy nodded and he left.
He didn't see Luffy outside before bingo, and just before it started, Luffy showed, and he made sure to sit next to him, and they all got a bingo sheet, before it started, and he made sure to keep an eye at Luffy’s sheet, and Luffy looked really uncomfortable at the start but seemed to calm down as it moved. One time, Usopp had gotten a bingo, and he checked if it was right, and it was, and he went to get a price. Luffy, however, never got a bingo, but seemed okay with it. When it was over, he went with Luffy to his room, and when they got there, he looked at Luffy. “How was that?” Luffy gave a small sound. “Terrifying. I am glad I didn't get bingo. But it was a bit nice.” Ace nodded. “I saw you were a bit uncomfortable, but it was good to have you. Hope to see you next time as well.” He really did. He then spoke a bit more, before he left.
Ace was on medicine duty today, meaning he was handing them out. When Luffy came, he gave a smile. “I just wanted to say, I have noticed you speaking during meals, and you have a lot of interesting things to say.” Luffy blinked. “I do?” Ace nodded. “Yes. And I thought you should get some feedback on it. Everyone seems really interested as well. I am glad you're getting more comfortable.” Luffy nodded. “I am as well. It feels… weird. I feel like I look like a crazy person.” Ace hummed. “You don't. You look normal to me.” Luffy gave a small chuckle with a sigh. “I feel like I look like that crazy cat lady from the Simpsons.” Ace hummed. “That's very specific.” Luffy nodded. “I know, and it is how I feel.” Ace nodded. “But do remember, you don't look like that.” Luffy nodded “I’ll try.”
He then handed the medicine to Luffy, who took it before he gave a smile and a goodbye for now, before the next one came inside. And he then got out the medicine for everyone, those who had a change got reminded about it and if they felt some side effects, to tell one of them. He didn't say which side effects, as that usually made people feel them immediately. He also always said to not search up side effects, as that made many feel unsure. He still remembers when one had done just that, and one of the side effects, a rare one, was said to be ‘spontaneous unexplained death’, scaring the person that he might die. So now, he encouraged them to not search it up.
When he was done, he locked the room, before he went outside and continued his day. It was just a bit before dinner. He was on medicine for the night/evening medication as well. And he walked around and spoke with his patients as his shift went by.
When it was time for evening medication, Luffy came into the medicine room for his evening medication, and as he prepared it, Luffy spoke. “Also, I got this terrible headache. Could I get something for it?” Ace hummed. “Sure, let me just check your medicine sheet.” He then did that, and there wasn't a prescription for some pain medicine, making him sigh. “You're not on any, but let me take a call to the doctor on call.” There were no doctors on the house now, all of them had gone home, but they had one on call. Luffy nodded. “Oh, I don't want to be a bother.” Ace shook his head. “And you aren't. This is normal. Let me just,” Ace took the phone and dialed it, before he spoke as it was answered. “Hi, this is Ace Portgas from Westside Bulwark Unit. I got a patient with a bad headache and doesn't have a prescription for pain medicine.” He heard a hum. “Give one dose of paracetamol.” Ace nodded. “I will, thank you.” He then hung up, and got the medicine out.
As he was doing this, Luffy spoke. “I didn't know you needed to ask a doctor for some paracetamol or such.” Ace hummed. “Some don't call a doctor, as it is 9 out of 10 times okay to just give it, but I like to be thorough. Just in case. The more experienced doctors always place a prescription for it, but not everyone.” Some did, and some did not, he liked those who managed to think ahead and know some people might need it. Law usually did, but must have forgotten it this time. Luffy nodded. “Okay. Can I also get some sleep ones?” Ace checked the prescription, and that was there, so he nodded. “Sure. I just need to write this one down.” He said as he started to count how many tablets were left, and then that he took one, and to which it was for, before he signed it and said how many were left. It made Luffy blink. “Wait, you need to count them?” Ace nodded. “Yes, so we don't give out too much, or have someone steal.” Luffy blinked. “Oh, okay.”
Ace then handed the medicine over, and Luffy gave a smile. “Thanks.” Ace shook his head. “No issue. Need anything else?” Luffy shook his head. “No.” Ace nodded. “Okay. I’ll pop in with you in half an hour, okay?” Luffy nodded. “Yeah, sure. No issue.” With that, Luffy left, before the next one came inside. When he was done, about half an hour later, he walked to Luffy’s room and knocked, and walked in when he heard the come in. He then walked in, and Luffy was listening to some music as he was reading a book, making him smile. “What are you reading?” Luffy hummed. “Pet Sematary by Stephen King. I just finished The Long Walk.” Ace nodded. “You can read scary things before bed?” Luffy hummed. “Yes, I can. It's not that scary, I at least don't think so, and I don't want to use my phone or laptop before bed, as I want to make sure I get a night's sleep.” Ace nodded. “I like that about you. You do your best.” Luffy nodded. “Yeah, and I don't want to be like the person who is like ‘I can’t sleep’, and then sits on their phone as I've heard that can keep you up.” Made sense.
Ace smiled. “Well, do you need anything before I leave for the night?” Luffy shook his head. “No, I don't think so. You working tomorrow?” Ace nodded. “Yes, it is my weekend.” It was, he worked day both of them. Then he had Monday and Tuesday off. Luffy nodded. “Oh, cool. See you then.” Ace smiled. “We will, and I will most likely have you all weekend, so you're stuck with me.” Luffy nodded. “I don't mind that. I like you.” Ace smiled. “That's good. I will see you tomorrow then.” Luffy nodded. “Yeah, see you then.” Ace then left, and went to the office and wrote his reports, before he went home for the night, and he didn't have so much time before he was needed back here. His shift started at 8 tomorrow. He really did love his job, he got to help people.
When he got home, he quickly got himself to bed, before he woke up the next day and went back to work.
