Work Text:

Miranda closed her eyes and pushed her hair back from her face. It clung to the sweat on the back of her neck and shoulders, and she found herself desperately wishing for a hair tie. This oppressive heat was entirely the wrong kind of weather for a hookup. She was hot. She was sweaty. She was cranky. Vancouver was supposed to be cool and damp, but the region was seeing hotter and hotter summers, and with that seasonal heat came muggy days and stormy nights. Thank goodness for this thin white cotton dress she'd found at a shop lining English Bay. She would have been miserable in her usual suit. She leaned back into the shade cast by the patio umbrella and sipped at her iced passion fruit tea blend as she watched the tourists and beach goers filter on by.

Finally she spotted a familiar pair of broad shoulders and brown capped head in the crowd of pedestrians. James smiled wide as he spotted her back. She had to admit, he had a handsome and easy smile that creased his eyes to near slits and made her feel a little warmer for having seen it.

"Miri, you look–" James walked up behind her chair and gathered her sweat-dampened hair in his hand, lifting it off her skin so he could place a kiss on the column of her neck, "–gorgeous, as always."

She almost cringed away, knowing he could both taste and smell her sweat from that close.

"James, it's too hot for that."

He gazed down at her with warm brown eyes, and a mischievous smile that didn't look at all dissuaded. "Wanna cool down?"

"Somewhere with aircon would be nice."

"I'll do you one better." James tugged ever so gently on the hair held in his big hand, just enough to send a flutter of arousal through her at the suggestion of what was to come.

"A buddy of ours has a place he's loaning me for the night. When's the last time you were thrown in a pool?"

"That would be a never," Miranda eyed him over her shoulder in warning.

James grinned and kissed up along her jaw, apparently entirely undeterred by her sweatiness. "You got other clothes in that bag?"

"Clearly." Miri finished her tea ignoring his ministrations.

"Good. Cus I wanna see what this dress looks like wet on you."

His voice was low and husky in her ear, making her shiver despite the heat. Miranda smiled into the kiss he pressed to her painted lips. Maybe the weather was perfect after all.
