Work Header

The unexpected is usually what brings the unbelievable

Summary:

“Toshi, try to be welcoming to him. You are both the same age, I’m sure you’ll find something to bond over.” The boy nodded then, resisting the urge to roll his eyes.

It’s not that he had anything against the new kid, no he actually thought it would be cool to have a brother- it would just make it harder to sneak out, and well- he wasn’t sure they could get along. What could the other boy have in common with Hitoshi? Having a “villainous” quirk? Being given up for adoption because of said quirk? Being a vigilante in secret? Or maybe he just likes cats?
--
Hitoshi has been unknowingly to his guardian doing vigilante work for years, but now that Shota adopts another kid, his chances of being found out rise. On top of trying to find a way to sneak out he also has to get along with the quirkless boy, how can he do that if they don't share any interests? Or at least that's what he thinks. Turns out Izuku is not just another average teen and Hitoshi gains a vigilante friend.

Notes:

ok then- this idea was in the back of my head for some time already. now i had to wait like all night for a plane of my family members that are coming from turkey and didn't want to go to sleep incase it got canceled again and i wouldnt know so ofc i just sat down and wrote fanfiction. also- rlly frustrating thing is, as i had a lot of time i actually sat down and reread and edited and added more sentences, took me one hour. but you know what? i accidentally deleted the edited copy and had to do it again. but then i didn't have any more time left for i had to do with ten minutes.

Yes the title is another quotes i got off google, dont come at me idk how ppl come up with such amazing titles.

Chapter Text

Hitoshi Shinso was sitting in the living room alone, petting the silky fur of his cat and listening to the rain, as it relaxingly tapped on the window. He glanced outside, the sun was setting though the grey clouds already. Then his eyes fell down to the cat for a moment before he looked at the front door for the 20th time this past ten minutes.

He didn’t have time to waste, but he couldn’t do anything until Shota brought home the new kid. Hitoshi sighed, thinking of when he was told by his guardian just before he left.

“Toshi, try to be welcoming to him. You are both the same age, I’m sure you’ll find something to bond over.” The boy nodded then, resisting the urge to roll his eyes.

It’s not that he had anything against the new kid, no he actually thought it would be cool to have a brother- it just would just make it harder to sneak out, and well- he wasn’t sure they could get along. What could the other boy have in common with Hitoshi? Having a “villainous” quirk? Being given up for adoption because of said quirk? Being a vigilante in secret? Hitoshi huffed to himself as the cat in his lap purred. Maybe the boy likes cats? Just as he decided that that would be a great question to start a conversation, the key in the front door turned.

Hitoshi hurried to stand up, leaving the cat to settle down on the cushions while he made his way to the front door. When he came out to the hallway, Hitoshi came face to face with a boy his age.

“Hello,” He greeted, but the other only barely lifted his head to glance at Hitoshi, before averting his eyes back down again.

“Izuku, meet Hitoshi. Hitoshi, meet Izuku.” Shota stood between the two boys.

“Nice to meet you,” Hitoshi tried again, raising his hand in a short wave. The other boy only nodded his head a bit and let out a barely audible “You too”.

Hitoshi studied the boy- Izuku. He had dark green hair, and even darker green eyes, which he seemed to be trying to stare a hole in the ground. His hands were grasped tightly around the straps of a yellow backpack.

“Alright,” Shota sighed, putting his hands in his pockets. “Hitoshi, would you please show Izuku to his room?”

Hitoshi nodded, “Sure,” and turned to head down the hall. He couldn't hear anyone following behind him, but when looking around his shoulders, Hitoshi saw that Izuku was following closely.

“Alright,” he stopped in front of a door, opening it“That is um, your room. Feel free to unpack and stuff. After that, call me, and I’ll give you a full tour of the place.”

Hitoshi watched as Izuku just threw his backpack on the neatly made bed. “Done.” was all he said.

Hitoshi shrugged, “Well do as you please.” and headed back down the hallway. He wasn’t going to question it, as it actually worked in his favor. Now he will be able to get this over with quicker.

“And lastly, this is the living room, and there’s the kitchen.” Hitoshi said after they circled around the apartment.

Shota peaked from the kitchen, telling them that dinner will be ready in a few minutes. And just like that the two found themselves sitting and awkwardly waiting on the couch.

“Do you like cats?” Hitoshi tried to start a conversation.

Izuku slowly shook his head, looking down. “Not really, I like dogs more.”

There goes the only thing we can have in common, though Hitoshi.
The conversation didn’t last long, as Izuku provided the shortest answer possible, mostly only giving nods in return.

“What’s your quirk?” Hitoshi finally asked. He could see how the question make the other boy tense even more and was about to say that he doesn't have to tell him when Izuku spoke.

“I’m quirkless.”

Hitoshi turned his head sharply, quirkless people were rare- especially this young. A person without any superpower at all in a world where powers are the norm. Hitoshi has met a quirkless person only once in his life, and only that briefly. Back in the orphanage, and that was years ago. But just as he was about to open his mouth, Shota called them to dinner.

Izuku didn’t speak more at all, and neither did Hitoshi. Though the latter itched to ask Izuku more, looking at his watch he was more worried about the time. Hitoshi liked to stick to his patrolling schedule quite strictly. With the delay of the documents- as Shota explained the reason why they were late. Only meant that he was late by almost a whole half an hour already, but he couldn’t just run off from the dinner table as that would be too suspicious. Hitoshi had to wait as he always did, until going to his room for the night. Then instead of heading to bed to sleep, he would sneak out of the window.

Shota was explaining something to Izuku, who nodded along, but Hitoshi didn’t listen, glancing at his watch and trying to finish his food quickly, but not too quickly.

Hitoshi let out a breath of relief when he was finally let go to his room. Slamming the door closed with just a bit too much force than he wanted, he turned the key and locked it. He headed straight for his closest, and for a moment disappeared inside completely, only to emerge again with a cardboard box in hand. Setting it down on his bed and taking the contents out, Hitoshi glanced at the tearing edges of the box, reminding himself yet again that it is not the best place for his vigilante outfit. On the other hand, there was not anywhere in the apartment that could be considered a good hiding place if the underground hero decided to search. Lucky for Hitoshi, he never did. The boy was quite proud of himself for not raising any suspicions and sneaking out almost every night without being noticed.

When he was dressed, the last thing was the utility belt, which was stored separately as Shota knew about it- just not about the part that Hitoshi used it outside of training. Then, pulling his mask on his face, Shinso made his way to the window. Not bothering to put away the box and leaving it empty on the bed. Just as Hitoshi reached his hand to open the window, a sudden noise startled him. The sound of another window being opened. He waited for a minute or so for the person to get away from the window and not see him before he opened his. Hitoshi slowly climbed out onto the windowsill, jumping down but only a mere meter. To his convenience, from this side of the house stood a shorter conjoined building, saving him the long way down. He was quite joyful when he first found out that he could get down from his window that easily. Hitoshi turned around to his bedroom window and silently closed it. Just as he did, something fell down right next to him, making a too-loud thud in the silence of the night.

Hitoshi turned around sharply, eyes wide and hand on his weapon. “Who’s there?” The noise of the fall wasn’t what startled Hitoshi so much, no it was what he heard after.

“Ow, that kinda hurt,” Came a distorted voice. Voice changer, Hitoshi noted.

Squinting his eyes, he studied the figure that was sitting up in front of him.

“Oh, Hello!” this time the figure’s voice was cheerful, as if happy to run into Hitoshi here.

Hitoshi was debating about illegally using his quirk to ask the person who they were, when his head moved up and his eyes caught sight of the open window, right next to his closed one. He looked back down, the figure was now standing.

“Izu-?” he began, when the other boy hurried towards him, finger over his masked lips.

“Shh Shh don’t let anyone hear that while we are out here!”

Hitoshi was frozen in shock and confusion. He did not expect his night to start off like this.

“Then what do I call you?” he slowly said, looking up and down the boy in front of him. Why did he even ask that, he didn't know himself.

“Dunno,” came a shrug, “never really picked out a vigilante name,” He paused for a second before adding, “And the one the police has is just laughable, don’t like it. Oh oh, yours is kinda cool though! Want me to-”

“Hold up,” Hitoshi drew his eyebrows together, “How do you even-”

Without letting him finish the other boy was already talking, “Ah don’t worry, I know a lot of stuff, that's how I survive out on the streets- you know no quirk and all.'' The last part was said in an entirely different tone, not cheery and quieter.

Their eyes locked and an awkward silence arose, until Hitoshi broke it, “You seem a lot more talkative now than at dinner,” He pointed out.

“Ah well you know- a lot far more comfortable here. And- and also there was Eraserhead! I couldn't let myself freak out in front of him, but Eraser! The- Oh my- he is literally so amazing! I’ve run a few times into him, and his fighting style is-”

“Stop, how do you know that?” Hitoshi cut him off again. It took him two whole months to figure out the man who adopted him was Eraserhead, even though the first time they met, he told Hitoshi that he was an underground hero.

The other boy shrugged, “Told you, I know stuff. And he literally was in full costume- well minus the goggles, but I think he hides them under his scarf…” He put a hand on his chin in thought, “But like- even if I didn't know it was him, how could I have not recognized the costume?”

Hitoshi studied the boy in front of him. Eraserhead’s costume consisted of a whole black set and a utility belt and well- his capture weapon. Nothing that could stand out and make someone recognize it, on the spot no less.

“Ok, ok, we should go we are wasting time!” the boy in front of him jumped up and down.

Hitoshi did not protest, as he was already unbearably late. So with only a sheepish nod in return, Hitoshi turned around, facing the way he usually went.

“Alright then, lead the way! Haven't really been in this neighborhood before.”

Hitoshi turned around as he moved across the rooftop, glancing behind his back to see if the other was actually following. He wasn’t sure why he wasn’t actually trusting someone he just met, but Izuku seemed genuine and even Hitoshi, who preferred to work alone, didn't have the heart to say no. So they continued making their way around the neighborhood for a few minutes before Hitoshi glanced at Izuku again, this time the boy was to his side and not tailing behind.

“What is your usual patrol route?” he asked.

Izuku chuckled, “You are making it sound like you are an actual underground hero,” Hitoshi felt his cheeks heat up under his mask. That was what he was aiming for, after all, some may call this practice. “I don’t have like an area I look after, I rather jump around town. I do have these randomized routes that I switch around, but like that, I'm less in danger of being caught. When I was just starting out I had this little area but some heroes quirky caught on that that is the only place I ever go and that was not a pleasant time trying to run away from all them,” he shook his head, smiling behind his mask.

They ran across rooftops, watching the ground below for some time without anyone saying a word for some time.

“Right down there!” Hitoshi whisper-shouted, coming to a stop on the edge of a roof.

Izuku almost bumped into him at the sudden stop. “What’s there?” He squatted down close to the edge, looking down but making sure his head doesn’t stick out too much.

There was a group of people, and in the dark Izuku struggled to make out what was happening. So he sat there for a minute or so, not moving and listening in.

Hitoshi clearly was irritated by having to wait so much, and was about to jump down when Izuku grabbed his shoulder, shaking his head.
“Wait, we need to think,” He said in a hushed tone.

Hitoshi watched both Izuku and the people under with his hands crossed and tapping his leg on the fence of the rooftop. He couldn’t just wait while they beat each other up to death. Then there won’t be any point in his interfering at all. But Izuku was adamant on thinking it through first. Hitoshi huffed as Izuku whispered about coming up with a plan. Hitoshi had a plan. He always had the same plan, jump down, and understand the situation while getting the criminal to attack him first. Then he would fight back only in supposed self-defense and use his quirk only as the last resort. That way if it ever came to it- which he was sure will, as he was planning to go to U.A and do deep background checks. Hitoshi won’t be charged with vigilantism. It worked in his head at least.

So Hitoshi was getting quite irritated as he couldn't only stand there and watch, but then finally Izuku abruptly stood up.

“Okay, are we ready now?” Hitoshi asked in an annoyed tone.

Izuku just nodded, and sent his hands to open the Bo staff that was folded in on itself to make it easier for him to transfer- and well hide and was attached to his back.

Not waiting any more Hitoshi jumped down, using his capture weapon to get down smoothly. Meanwhile, Izuku made his way to the emergency staircase that was to the side of the building and only slightly away from the whole commotion in the corner. He got down to the half, before jumping down.

Hitoshi’s way of getting down was much fast, so when Izuku found himself in the alley, Hitoshi was already in the middle of fighting.

Izuku hurried to the group shrouding Hitoshi too, to help him out, but just as he was about to take on one of the thugs his attention slipped downwards, towards the dark corner of the alleyway where against the wall sat an injured person. It was the same one the group was attacking before the two boys jumped in. but that wasn’t was caught Izuku’s attention, no. What Izuku saw was one of the thugs using some dark blue vines that came out from their fingertips to pull the person towards them. Izuku didn’t want to wait to find out what they were about to do, as from observing before he could guess. The injured person was someone who had debts to a certain gang, the same gang that cornered them in this alleyway. Izuku didn’t need to know more. Izuku was about to jump towards the two when he was harshly pushed from the side, making him fall down on the ground.

“You aren’t paying attention!” it was Hitoshi, “this one just almost pouched you in the face.”

Izuku breathed out a thank you, looking at the other boy who was holding on to the first of a massive thug. The thug turned his head to Izuku. His sclera fully black. Izuku gasped.

“Light! Light! His weakness is light!”

Hitoshi gave him a confused look. The thug didn’t seem to like Izuku’s statement and was swinging his hand at Hitoshi. So the boy didn’t waste more time, putting out a flashlight out of his utility belt. Just as he turned it on, the thug covered his eyes, and hissing took a shaky step back.

“Oh my… you were right,” Hitoshi ran up to Izuku, helping him stand up. “Didn’t think that would work,” he breathed out.

Izuku shrugged and open his mouth to say something when he remembered what he was doing. Swifty turning around, the boy ran up to the person with the blue vines, cutting the vines with which the knock-out person was being pulled by in two swift motions.

“Hey!” he called for Hitoshi, the other boy was by his side in a second.

“Can you-” Izuku started, looking up.

“I’ll take them to the roof.” Hitoshi finished his sentence, nodding. He looked up, and only for a brief moment he felt as he saw something move on the rooftop above.

Suddenly the alleyway was filled with flashing lights and voices.

“The police?” Hitoshi gasped, “How did they come here so quickly?”

“I called them,” Izuku Infrared, already making his way up to the roof. Hitoshi followed suit, and soon they both, plus a pass-out person were on the rooftop again. Just this time, on the building opposite the one they were on before.

“Wait,” Hitoshi looked up after catching his breath. “Why did we take this person up with us? Wouldn’t it be best to leave now, the police are taking care of the rest.”

Izuku didn’t answer right away, instead he peeked down from the roof for a second. Hitoshi watched as he turned back to him. Right then, a bright and loud explosion happened in the alleyway they were just in.

“That’s why.” Izuku’s eye told that he was smiling.

“What was that?” Hitoshi whispered.

“Uh that’s because of one of their quirks. Well it probably wouldn’t happen on its own, but I noticed how the skin of that particular thug was reacting to the touch, firstly I notice it when we were still on the roof, but when you both were fighting it made it clear. So when we were leaving I set a sparkle bomb- which would not cause any harm at all, but the small pieces of sparkles on the skin would irritate it so- I just figured that would happen.” He glanced to the alleyway again.

“You exploded someone's skin?!”

Izuku waved his hands in front of him, “No, no!,” He paused, “Well- technically yes,” Hitoshi was about to open his mouth, but Izuku shushed him. “But- But it’s not actually the skin you see, it’s a chemical that his skin produces and if not harmful to him. Probably.”

Hitoshi blinked. “That makes no sense.”

“Ah I guess not,” Izuku put a hand behind his head and let out an awkward laugh. “Sorry, I was rambling.”

Hitoshi slowly shook his head, to which Izuku returned a confused look. “No, no. Continue, it’s really interesting how you could spot all that. I wanna understand what you understand.”

Even with his mask covering half his face, you could tell that Izuku was smiling.

They stayed like that for some time, Izuku was talking and Hitoshi nodding along, occasionally asking questions.

“That is… Just amazing!” Hitoshi beamed when Izuku was done. “I can’t- I can’t believe I haven’t noticed all that. And I must admit, your analytical ability is so useful in these situations.”

Izuku clearly wasn’t expecting that kind of reaction. He was taken aback.

“I well- Um… Thank you.” was all he said before standing up.

“Okay we should really keep going,” he said, clapping his hands.

“But we can’t just leave them like that, the gang is probably going to find them again to get them to repay their debts or wherever you said.” Hitoshi waved his hand in the air, moving from Izuku down to the unconscious person.

Izuku hummed, “Oh, you are right.” There was a moment of silence.

“Maybe we should get some hero to help them out?” Hitoshi suggested.

“Yea, I’m trying to think of someone right now.” Izuku said quietly, deep in thought, and a finger on his masked chin.

“Oh I got it!” he finally exclaimed, “This hero will be the most help as she focuses on protection, we can call for her. It’s actually quite fortunate that her agency is close to here,” he squatted down beside Hitoshi and the unconscious person, pulling out a notebook out of nowhere. “I’ll just write-” and then came mumbling Hitoshi couldn’t make out. When Izuku was done writing, he ripped the page out and folded it in half.

They carefully took the still unconscious person to the hero agency Izuku spoke of. luckily it was just around the corner, and they didn’t have to drag a body across roofs for too long. They did have to break in, to get the person inside. The letter Izuku wrote they attached to the person’s shirt with a safety pin Hitoshi pulled out for his utility belt. He seemed to have everything you’d ever need in there. But after that was done, they quickly made their way up to the roofs.

And so, the two boys were jumping along the roofs until one of them stopped dead in his tracks. Hitoshi turned around, looking at Izuku who panicky turned around as well, studying something in the darkness behind them.

“What is it?” Hitoshi raised his brow, eyes darting between the green-haired boy and what he was looking at. Izuku didn’t answer immediately and Toshi took a few steps back in the boy’s direction. Gazing into the dark roofs they just left, he tried to notice the same thing Izuku did.

“Someone is following us.” Izuku stated, not bothering to whisper. His voice was firm and calm, but the statement wasn’t.

That was when Hitoshi noticed it too. Holding a breath, he listened. The rustle was somehow familiar. He has surely heard this sound before. Straning his eyes, he focused on where the other boy was looking. A figure dressed in all black was barely visible behind some hanging laundry.

“Eraserhead.” Izuku finished.

There was a moment of silence before Izuku put his hand up in a wave.
“Fancy seeing you here,” he said with a short, nervous laugh.

Their guardian’s face was emotionless, no one could tell what he was thinking, but they both could guess that he was not happy.

“Home, now.” His voice was cold and sent chills down the spine. There was no need to say ‘You are in trouble’ as they both already knew it.

Not saying anything else, or waiting for them to, the underground hero turned around and started walking away.

Soon they both followed. A minute or so passed in silence. The hero didn’t even turn around to see if they were following after him, but he probably could hear.

Izuku and Hitoshi exchanged glances. They both knew it was going to be a long talk.

Chapter Text

Turning around after a firm look, Eraserhead headed back. He continued slowly in the direction of home, making sure both boys were right behind him. From time to time, he glanced at them, but he did not say a thing.

Hitoshi moved quietly. His expression was still but Shota could tell he was a bit nervous. Izuku on the other hand looked plain worried. He didn’t know what to expect. But granted, he had not spent enough time with Shota yet to be comfortable with him. For him it was more nerve wracking.

The hero watched as the boy began to panic. He was mumbling under his breath, calculating something it seemed.

Suddenly Izuku halted. The hero and after him Hitoshi stopped as well. When Shota met Izuku’s wide open eyes, he understood. The boy was scared he’d be sent back.
Raising his brows a bit, he looked at the boy, asking without words ‘is everything okay?’ Taking in a shaky breath, Izuku shook his head lightly, taking a step forward. By that, answering without saying a word: ‘It’s nothing, all fine’.

They continued on their way and jumped over to the next building, Hitoshi just slightly ahead of Izuku and Shota leading the way while being in between the boys and keeping an eye on both of them. Izuku’s green eyes lingered at the street below. He probably wondered if he could run away. Even with his parallel vision Shota could see the calculating expression on the boy's face. Hitoshi noticed it too as he turned to Izuku. Shota could hear him whisper to the greenhead, “Don’t.”

Just around the block from the apartment, the hero abruptly stopped.
Turning around to face the boys, he asked.
“Have you noticed that someone has been following us?” There was, for the last eight minutes.

Izuku’s eyes went wide. He didn’t, too lost in his thoughts. Not meeting Shota’s eyes, he turned to look at Hitoshi, whose eyes were focused on something beneath them.
“I did think something was off when I noticed the shadow three buildings earlier,” he said quietly.

“He has been following us for much longer than that.” Eraserhead informed, as he kneeled on the side of the building. With the two looking down, Izuku decided to join in too.

There, in the dimly lit street below was the same thug they just escaped. Izuku froze.
“The stunt grenade wasn’t strong enough?” He whispered to himself but Shota heard.
“Does he see that we noticed him?” Izuku asked, turning to the two others.

“I don’t think he does yet…” Hitoshi answered hesitantly.

“But he will soon,” deadpanned Shota, surveying the situation beneath.

“What do we do?” Izuku asked, looking back down. Shota could hear him begin to mumble. He was blaming himself for letting the thug escape and come after them.

“Hey…” Hitoshi tried, but the other boy didn’t seem to hear him.

Shota put a hand on his shoulder. “Izuku.” A quiet gasp escaped the boy’s lips. “It’s okay, we have everything under control.” The boy perked up a bit when Shota said ‘we’

“We?” Hitoshi asked.

Shota nodded. “A perfect learning experience.”

The boys looked at the hero for a moment, before Hitoshi turned to Izuku.
“Ready to do it?” he asked, and Izuku nodded. Shota smiled behind them, not that he would ever admit to it.
“That's perfect then,” Hitoshi continued, “because that guy caught on.” Izuku joined him to look over the edge.

“Don’t do anything stupid,” Shota warned. “I will be watching from the shadows.”
He could see the two boys vibrating with excitement. Shota felt a little bit as if he was teaching interns. The boys must have felt it too, happy he is letting them continue/. For now.

Hitoshi turned back to look at Shota. “Can we use quirks,” He paused, glancing at Izuku. “And fight?”

Shota humphed. “Only in self defence”

— — —
“Alright, let’s start with you Hitoshi.”

Both boys sat on the sofa, while Shota settled down on a chair in front of them. It really did feel as if they were getting interrogated. In the back of his mind, Hitoshi reminded himself that this was much better than actually being taken by the police.

Crossing his arms, Shota began. “When did you start your…” He paused for a second, as if trying to pick the right words, “Illegal outings?”

“It’s not–” Hitoshi tried to defend himself.

“When?” Shota’s voice was firm. It made Izuku gulp and Hitoshi averted his gaze down to the floor.

“Um five years ago?” Hitoshi finally said hesitantly. “But I wasn't really doing anything, didn’t interfere or um– try to stop villains,” he paused. “When I started fighting and stuff it was only like two years ago.” He added quietly.

“So when I started training you.”

Hitoshi’s head jolted up. “I wanted to get stronger– to practise, and well– to see if I could actually help people!”

This was slowly turning into the worst scenario Hitoshi could think of.

There was a long pause, in which neither of the boys dared to say something. Hitoshi began to sweat. Why was it getting so intense?

Finally, Shota moved. Uncrossing his arms and leaned forward, he began. “Usually, I let peaceful vigilantes quietly do their thing, yes, but – it’s a totally different case when the two vigilantes are minors and I’m the one responsible for them.” Shota let out a frustrated sigh, looking up at the boys.

From the side of his eye, Hitoshi could see Izuku gripping the end of the sofa with both his hands, which seemed to be shaking. Hitoshi turned his head to him. It was probably not pleasant to be found out and get in trouble on your first day. He felt sorry for him. Hitoshi knew Shota for years now, and was used to him being his parent. To Izuku he was still a hero first, guardian second.

“Now you,” Shota paused, looking at Izuku. Hitoshi’s eyes darted between the two.
“Tell me, why did you decide on doing it?”

“Um, well,” Izuku almost jumped from his place. “To save people, without people knowing who I am. “ He fiddled with the blanket under him. “Because– because everyone said I couldn't um, make it to be a hero.” he sounded very unsure.

The questions and answers dragged on, until Shota finally leaned back. Closing his eyes for a moment, he took a deep breath.

The boys watched, holding their breath until Shota let out a breath and opened his eyes again.

“Now.” He began slowly, speaking in his teacher’s voice. “Despite your seemingly good intentions, what you were doing out there has been dangerous, and illegal.” Hitoshi shrined under his gaze. “Which is why, you won't be doing anything of that sort anymore.”

A small “What” escaped Izuku’s lips, but Shota continued.

“And I will have to rethink your training, Hitoshi.” Said boy looked down, sadded. He was ready to accept his punishment, and guessed this would be the case but still…

“Now that I have two students, who both happened to have field practice… I’m going to have to level up the training, to perhaps something more real.”

Both boys looked up at him, stunned.

Seeing their hopeful looks, the hero added firmly. “But that is of course after your punishment, and if you don't act up and try to do something while you're still grounded.”

After that, the atmosphere in the room became much lighter.
They sat for dinner, and while serving the rice, Shota told them how he discovered they were gone.
“....And imagine my surprise, when I come to Izuku’s room to offer him a towel and find the room empty, and the window open.” Shota shot looks at both boys. “And then I got to Hitoshi’s room, wondering where Izuku could have gone already, only to find that you disappeared too!” The last part was said with him looking directly at Hitoshi.

Izuku giggled quietly while Hitoshi mumbled an apology for both of them.

Somehow, it slowly turned into the boys talking and complimenting the other’s abilities.
“No but I’m telling you, I was actually taken aback when you came up with all these elaborate and creative plans on the spot!” Hitoshi insisted, getting himself another serving.

“The first plan didn't work,” Izuku reminded him with a shy smile on his face, stirring his soup slowly.

“All the others worked!” Hitoshi didn’t back down.

“That’s only ‘couse you were able to flawlessly sneak up on the guy!” Izuku turned to face Hitoshi. “Like your stealth– it’s crazy! It can match a real pro, am I right?” He looked at Shota for confirmation, and the man nodded.

“You’re giving me too much credit.” It was Hitoshi’s turn to shy away.

“No, but think about it– You snuck out for years- years! under the nose of a pro!” Both could hear said pro mumble something inaudible.

Shota watched across the table as the two continued playful bickering. In the end he was glad it took less than 24 hours for the boys to bond, but that also meant he was saying goodbye to his peace and quiet.

— — —
“Alright then.” Shota tapped on the big whiteboard which the boys could barely see, as it was filled with all the mistakes they made while vigilante-ing. The hero even made sure to add even mistakes he, from observing thought they can potentially make.

“Let's get started.”

Notes:

I haven' t written in so long.

Notes:

so um yup, there should be a second chapter where the three of them talk, but no more than that. i don't wanna start another long wip rn, though this idea of them both being little vigilantes sounds lovely to me.
