Chapter Text
Feast day of Saint Julius the Veteran
Even now after 3 years of living at Blackthorn Apothecary, seeing The King’s Warden walk into the shop was still unnerving.
“It’s not the right time.” I heard Ashcombe say in that growly way of his. “He’s not ready.”
Master Benedict wasn’t impressed. “Then when is, My Lord? He’s a bright boy, eventually, he’s going to figure it out.”
Charles ignored him, “Have you told him yet?”
“Good.” Master Benedict said with a nod. “I’ll be heading down to grab the new Culpeper’s Herbal, so I hope the two of you have fun.” He didn’t need to remind me, but I felt grateful for the assurance that his plans hadn’t yet changed. I thought that would be the end of it, but Benedict paused in his eating again and looked back up at me his eyes narrowed. “Within reason Christopher. Please leave this house standing when I come back.”
I ignore the feeling in my stomach and nodded. “I have no plans of burning our home down,” I said honestly.
Benedict smiled. “Good. I’d hate to punish you during this double holiday.”
