“And lastly, all main cast members need to see Val and Kayla after lunch tomorrow for first costume fittings. Now just a couple of housekeeping things…”
As Dewey finished off the announcements, EJ leant across to Gina and grabbed her hand. "Come on.” he whispered an he started to slide across the benches to the isle, dragging Gina with him.
—
“So you gonna tell me what we're doing?" Gina asked, as they continued to walk, the chatter of the other campers fading behind them.
"You clearly don’t understand the concept of surprises.” EJ replied, before stopping and turning to Gina.
"Alright, close your eyes. No peeking.”
Gina closed her eyes and slapped a hand across them, EJ chuckling at her dramatic response. As he moved to stand behind her, he gently placed his hands on her waist to start guiding her forward.
After a couple steps, Gina started to feel a little disoriented and slightly nervous, so she placed her free hand over one of his.
"I hope you’re not gonna push me in the pool or something.”
“Hmm… actually…”
“Don’t you dare.”
“Don’t worry. I wouldn’t. We're almost there.”
With her hand still covering her eyes, Gina just nodded in reply, squeezing his hand resting on her waist.
Thankfully, it wasn’t too much longer before they stopped. Still holding her waist, Gina felt EJ step sightly closer before letting her knows she could open her eyes. Taking a moment, she slowly uncovered them, and let out a breath she didn’t realise she was holding.
Before her was the common pergola with its many tables, overlooking the valley. This had quickly become a common area which campers hung out at. Tonight though, one table stood out from the rest, a tablecloth covering it with some snacks waiting for them.
Gina turned to look at him, then at the set up, then back to him again, eyes wide and mouth slightly open with surprise. EJ couldn’t help but laugh at her reaction. “Come on.” he said, as he took her hand leading her towards it.
They spent the next couple of hours enjoying each other’s company. Gina laughing along to the stories EJ told of past camp adventures and EJ revelling in Ginas excitement about this summers musical. Neither could really believe that this was real, they were here and spending the summer together.
While she was telling EJ about the latest disaster her mum was attending to, Gina noticed his gaze had shifted to something behind her. She paused and turned around to see Maddox standing nearby, somewhat awkwardly.
“Hey Madds. Whats up?" EJ asked.
“Hey, sorry, I hate to burst your bubble, but curfew was like an hour ago and I’d hate for Dewey to catch you.” she explained.
“No worries, we'll be up in a sec. Thanks.”
As Maddox walked away, they both moved to start packing things up.
"Thanks for this, it was really sweet.” Gina said, while placing the leftover strawberries in a container.
"Hey, what are real boyfriends, if not sorta sweet?” EJ replied with a smile as he leant over the table to quickly peck her lips.
“You’re welcome though.”
Gina couldn't help herself as her smile grew.
This summer was turning out pretty great.
