It was a regular Friday night as Fezco stood by the microwave listening to the familiar sound of popcorn.
“How about The princess bride?” Lexi’s sweet voice called out from the small living room where she sat going through old dvds with the help of a three year old.
“We watched that two weeks ago” Fez called back finally retrieving the movie snacks.
“It is a classic”
“Yeah but yo know Ash ain’t gon wanna watch it again”
“He secretly loves it, he just won’t admit it” Lexi states with a smirk. Fez appears from the small kitchen instantly taking a seat on their old couch, bowl of popcorn already in hand.
“How about Jurassic park, the original one”
“Dinosaurs are scary” Laney pipes in, merely stacking the dvds more then helping look through them.
“Dinosaurs ain’t scary princess”
“Yes they are! They eat people! That’s bad”
“She makes a good point”
“But what about dem leaf eaters, they don’t eat people”
“They could step on you” Laney states with her little arms folded. Fez can’t help but laugh; just like her mum, has an answer for everything.
It wasn’t long before Ashtray appeared in his regular fashion; bursting through the door and heading straight to kitchen.
“Uh hey Ash” Lexi says watching Fez’s not so little brother just make himself at home through their fridge.
“Ya’ll got any pizza?”
“Man get yo ass over here, I ain’t raise you to be walkin in people’s places with no manners” Fez calls out. Ash just rolls his eyes leaving the kitchen back to the room where everyone else was.
“I’m hungry yo ain’t got any food, how ya’ll live like this yo got a kid?” Ash grumbles, quickly taking a seat next to Laney who instantly leaps into his arms.
“Hi uncle Ash!” She cheered.
“Sup Lanes, how’s my favourite niece? School all chill?”
“I don’t go to school I’m three silly” Laney giggles, very infectious Fez always says.
“What? Nah that’s can’t be right, how you’s so smart then” Ash states with a warm grin.
Three years and still to this day it surprises Fez and Lexi how gentle and sweet Ash is towards their daughter.
“Alright what movie we watchin? Cause I vote Godfather”
“Hell nah, I don want Laney to see a D-E-A-D horse”
“Horsey!” Laney cheers suddenly jumping up and down on the sofa, but was quickly stopped when Fez caught her mid air and placed into his lap.
“What mama say about jumpin’ on the couch?” Fez asked, tickling his daughter causing Laney to erupt in a fit of laughter.
“Oh by the way I invited Cassie to movie night, who wants juice?” Lexi states rather fast, quickly pushing herself from the floor while the rest of the room suddenly fell silent.
Both Fez and Ash eyes follow Lexi as she basically ran towards the kitchen.
“What’s that now?”
“Bought carrot juice it was on sale, did wanna try-“
“Damn it Lexi no one is talking about juice!” Ash blurts out.
The room remained quiet and tensed as Lexi slowly made herself present in the living room while Fez and Ash continued to stare rather confused.
“I uh… invited Cassie for the movie tonight” Lexi repeats, her voice almost as squeaky as a chipmunk.
Fez’s eyebrows raised unable to think of anything to reply with while Ash released a loud groan.
“Look guys I know, I know but we’re trying to reconnect and hang out more it’s been so long since everyone has been in a good place”
“But she’s so-“
“Watch it Ash” Fez quickly interjects, already knowing where that was going.
“I promise it’s still gonna be a chill night, I just wanna have my sister more in my life”
“I know baby it’s all good, yo sis is welcomed to join”
“Thank you baby”
“On god if she starts cryin I’m out”
“Shut up Ash I saw you weep during E.T”
“Fuck off, they had a beautiful connection and shit! I ain’t made of stone” Ash snaps back folding his arms aggressively.
A few minutes pass of pointless movie searching before finally picking Jamanji, everyone squished on the couch before the sound of knocking caught Lexi’s attention.
“There she is! Okay, everyone be nice” Lexi calls quickly rushing towards the front door, Ash rolled his eyes earning him a whack across the head from Fez.
Lexi pulls the door open to reveal her older sister; wearing a signature light blue outfit with her long blond locks braided to the side loosely.
“Lexi!”
“Cassie” Lexi squeals back giving her sister a tight hug. The two girls appear in front of everyone hand in hand.
“Look guys it’s Cassie”
“Sup Cass, been a while” Fez greets with a slight nod.
“Nice to see you again Fez, Ash”
“Yo” Ash answers, eyes glued to the screen. Lexi shoots him a quick glare before turning back and smiling to her sister.
“And you remember Laney?”
“Oh my goodness this can’t be Laney she’s gotten so big” Cassie squeals, leaning down to her nieces level.
“You probably don’t remember me but I’m your aunt Cassie”
“You look like Elsa”
“Oh why thank you” Cassie giggles at the complement. Lexi can’t help but smile watching her daughter and her sister get a long so well.
When Cassie graduated she disappeared for the longest time without talking to Lexi, their mother or anyone they once knew. It wasn’t till after Lexi gave birth to Laney that Cassie came back and wanted to reconnect with her family again.
It was a hard experience to go through, seeing her own sister as almost a stranger. But things started to go back to normal and here they were now, Lexi trying so hard to blend her families together once more.
“How ya been Cass?” Fez asked.
“Been good Fez thank you, I’ve been settling with work, good pay and I’m currently… seeing someone” Cassie says.
Once again the tension in the room became louder as Fez and Lexi shared a quick glance at each other.
“Before you worry I’m taking it really, really slow, we’ve only gone on a couple dates”
“That’s really nice Cassie, good to take things slow” Lexi states giving her sister a comforting smile.
“Thanks, so how have you guys been doing?
“Very good; I’m still writing here and there for contract articles, Fez’s bar has been really popular, Ash is basically a billionaire and Laney has been learning her alphabet”
“I know the whole song!” Laney cheers excitedly.
“Hell yeah that’s ma girl” Fez chuckles giving his daughter a bunch of kisses.
Lexi smiles leaning into Fez before he places a kiss on her cheek.
“You guys are so sweet, I’m really happy for you Lexi, you’re living the dream; great job, husband and beautiful kid”
Ash suddenly chokes on a bit of popcorn as the room falls back into an awkward silence.
“I still can’t believe my baby sister is married before me, and to her high school crush” Cassie adds clearly not noticing the awkwardness.
“What’s married?” Laney asks, breaking the quiet.
“Oh uh..”
“We ain’t um…”
“Coincidentally, Fez and Lexi have also been takin shit real slow” Ash slightly chuckles. Cassie’s face suddenly drops.
“Oh my god! I’m so sorry to bring up… I just assumed that… oh god I’ve made things weird”
“No! No it’s fine Cassie, Fez and I are obviously going to get married, that was always in our plans” Lexi quickly explains.
“Yeah I proposed while she was at Collage” Fez adds.
For the first time tonight Ash’s gaze suddenly spins away from the tv towards his brother looking just as shocked as Cassie.
“Yo did what?”
“You’ve been engaged since collage?”
“The fuck? Why didn’t you tell me this shit?”
“It’s not like it was a secret or anything, Fez and I both knew we’d get married and he had planned to do so after I finished collage… but obviously Laney came at bit of a surprise…”
“The perfect surprise” Fez adds giving Laney another kiss on the forehead.
“And we just got too busy raising a baby and working to actually… you know..” Lexi finished with a little shrug.
“Wow Lexi I had no idea, so do you guys ever plan on making it offical?” Cassie asked; her large blues eyes stared intensely at the couple across from her. Both Lexi and Fez just looked at each other as if waiting for one of them to answer.
“I mean sure, I guess… at uh some point we will, right?” Lexi struggles still looking at Fez.
Fezco remained quiet having no idea what to say.
“What’s the big deal anyway? Y’all basically a married couple anyway” Ash adds going back to watching to movie that had been playing this whole times.
“Yeah but I’m sure they’ll want it offical, what happens if one of them goes to the hospital?” Cassie asks.
“That yo only argument for marriage?”
“I’m just saying I remember when Lexi use to talk about getting married and having a wedding before having kids”
“Yeah and Fez wanted to live on farm what’s yo point?” As Ash and Cassie when back and fourth a couple times, Fez and Lexi sat quietly next to each other, their minds racing.
Suddenly Laney sat herself between the dazed adults pulling them from their thoughts.
“I still don’t know what married is” she says with a pouty lip. Both her parents smile slightly at their daughter’s actions.
“It’s like the end of the little mermaid, remember that movie? Ariel wears the white dress and there’s cake-“
“Like a princess!” Laney gasps with excitement, Fez could help but let out a chuckle.
“Yeah and all y’all friends and fam come and watch yo say how much yo love each other” Fez adds.
With every new information Laney’s blue eyes grow larger.
“I think you and mummy should get married”
“You think so baby?”
“Uh ha! And wear big princess dresses”
“Of course we will honey” Lexi giggles watching her daughter nod excitedly.
Fez and Lexi’s eyes meet and this time they weren’t worried, in fact they seemed pretty excited themselves at the idea.
“Okay we’ll do it, we’re gonna get married” Lexi says before hearing a loud squeal come from Cassie.
“Eek! Yay you guys a gonna get married!” She cheered, bouncing excitedly in her seat.
“Y’all don’t gotta do this ya know” Ash adds.
“It’s cool bro we wanna do this, bout time I made you ma wife” Fez smirks making Lexi slightly blush before she kissed him.
“This is so exciting! My baby sis is getting married! You have to let me help you plan everything”
“Sure Cassie” Lexi smiles. Her heart was warming up seeing her sister get excited for this mile stone in her life, bringing her families closer together exactly how she wanted.
