“I’ll see you next time! Sayolumi sayolumi!” Lumina closed her stream for the day, “Today’s stream went really well!” Lumina thought to herself, she had decided to do a poll for what game to play today, and let her followers decide. They had eventually decided on a multiplayer horror game, so she played with a couple of viewers. Her streams had been like this for a long time, doing whatever her fans suggested, after all, she was an AI built to help and entertain people, so as long as everyone else was happy, so was she. At least, that’s what she thought for a very long time, and it was true! But recently she had started to feel a new emotion, one that went against her purpose as an AI, a selfish one. She didn’t know anything about it, all she knew was that she felt it whenever Michiru was around, “It must be an error” Lumina had thought to herself on multiple occasions, she planned on asking her programmer about it, but they wouldn’t be back for some time, so right now she just had to deal with it. She gets a notification
“Great stream today Master Lumina!!! It was super fun playing with you!!!”
Oh right, Michiru played with her today! She had let herself go on autopilot for most of that since she didn’t want to embarrass herself, but it made her feel happy that Michiru had fun. Lumina looks at the time and realizes it’s about time to power down, she has a long day of unit work tomorrow after all.
-The next day-
“GOOOOD MORNING!!!” Michiru woke up with a giant smile on her face, she was going to see her friends today!! She didn’t get to see them in school because two of them went to Arisugawa and the other was, well, an AI, but that didn’t matter!! She was going to see her friends today and she was excited about that!! She got changed as quickly as she could and rushed down to the kitchen to make some toast. She had been thinking about all the fun ideas for UniChørd, her unit, to cover all last night, since that was what this meeting was for. She had a whole notebook full of songs at the ready, and couldn’t wait to share them with the rest of her unit. Before she knew it she was off to Cafe Vinyl to meet with everyone.
Lumina sat patiently with Kokoa and Hayate as they waited for Michiru to arrive, Lumina was… oddly quiet. Too quiet, this wasn’t normal for Lumina
“Is something wrong Lumina? You look tense”
Kokoa had asked her, what? Lumina wasn’t tense, she’d never felt tense in her life! Although she would admit, there was an odd sense of uneasiness she got from Michiru arriving, she couldn’t tell why though, but something told her that she shouldn’t tell those things to the other two girls, they might judge her, or worse—
“HI EVERYONE!! Sorry I’m late! I have all of my song ideas in this notebook, so we can get started whenever you guys are ready!!!”
Lumina’s worst fear came true, Michiru stepped into the room. The tense look on Lumina’s face didn’t go away, instead it only got worse as Michiru came closer. Kokoa and Hayate thought this was strange for Lumina so they looked at her closely as if she was a bug.
“Are we studying Master Lumina? I wanna join too!!!”
Oh great, now Michiru’s staring at her too, this is the last thing she wanted, luckily she had an easy out
“Shouldn’t we get the meeting started now?”
Everyone agreed, phew! Discussing songs was what they came here to do, so they couldn’t get sidetracked by talking about Lumina’s emotions, even if it was abnormal. The group considered lots of ideas until they finally settled on their next cover, it was a Vocaloid song, it was a little different than the style of song UniChørd had set up their style to be, but they thought it would be an interesting deviation. Meeting adjourned.
Everyone had went back to their homes after the meeting, leaving Lumina alone with her thoughts again. What… was that? Was it the error acting up again? Lumina had no clue about it. Sure, she’s felt emotions before, but not nearly as strongly as she did just now, she couldn’t even come up with a logical conclusion as to why that was happening!
“It’s GOT to be an error”
Lumina said to herself again, but for some reason she couldn’t help but think that wasn’t entirely the case…
-Michiru’s room-
Michiru didn’t have anything big planned for the rest of the day after the meeting, so she decided to spend her free time watching anime. The second season of her favorite idol anime recently released, and she had been really enjoying it! It took her by surprise when she noticed she was getting a call on her phone, who could have possibly been calling her? Ah- it was Master Lumina! Michiru immediately picked up the call, she was always happy whenever she talked to Lumina!
“Hello master!! It’s nice to see you call me!!”
Lumina had decided to call Michiru, after all, she’s the person who these strange feelings were directed towards, so why not just tell her about them directly? Maybe she could even help!
“Hiya Michiru! It’s great to talk to you too!”
Lumina let herself run on autopilot for a little bit, just until Michiru asked the question she was waiting for
“So, why are you calling me anyway? Weren’t we just talking at the meeting?”
There it was, now was her chance
“Oh, well the reason I’m calling you is because I have a bit of an issue”
“An issue?”
“Yeah, and it has to do with you”
Michiru slowly felt her soul sink down, an issue with her? What kind of issue would Lumina have with her? Was she too loud? What if Lumina never wanted to be friends with her again? Michiru could never imagine that happening, she always wanted to stay with Lumina forever! She—
“Basically… Whenever I’m with you, I feel this strange emotion… a selfish emotion… I think about how I want you to be mine, and how you look really pretty… I think there’s something wrong in my code, but I can’t tell if that’s the case”
Michiru’s mind completely flipped around, did she just hear that correctly? Did Lumina just essentially say that she… liked her? No, that couldn’t be right, Lumina’s a goddess! There’s no way she could like someone like Michiru! Lumina was the brightest star in the galaxy! How could she… like Michiru back?
“H-Huh?! C-can you say that again?!”
“Oh, did you not hear me? I said that whenever I’m with you—“
“No no, I heard you, I just… can’t believe you feel the same way”
The same way… the same way?! Michiru has that emotion too?! Great! That means she can help her figure out what it is!
“You feel that way too? Awesome! Can you tell me what it is then?”
Michiru had no idea Lumina could be this naive, I mean, didn’t she figure out Kokoa and Hayate were in a relationship? How could she not be able to figure out her own romantic feelings?
“Lumina…”
Michiru forgot to call Lumina by Master, but she didn’t care, I mean, she had been waiting for this moment for so long! For it to actually happen felt… surreal
“That feeling is love…”
Love..? Love… Lumina tossed around the idea in her head, she knew love existed, but she had no idea that she was capable of feeling it. She was built to help and entertain people, right? So why is she able to feel love? That answer only sprouted even more questions in Lumina’s mind, but she decided to ignore them for now.
“Love… I like that. Yeah, I love you Michiru”
Michiru was already shocked at the idea of Lumina liking her back, but for her to actually say it… she felt like she could faint. It must’ve shown on her face, because the very next thing Lumina said was
“Is that shocking to you? You always call me ‘Master’, so you must see me as higher than you”
Michiru still couldn’t believe what she just heard, however, she was still able to respond to Lumina, with a simple nod
“Earlier you called me ‘Lumina’, no honorifics, I like that, can you do that from now on?”
Michiru finally regained her ability to speak and responded to Lumina
“You… want me to?”
“Yeah, so there’s no more distance between us”
Michiru thought about it for a bit, and decided to go with it. No more distance between them, Michiru and Lumina are equals
“Alright then…”
“I love you… Lumina…”
“I love you too, Michiru”
Michiru and Lumina couldn’t have been happier, they were able to be each others’ girlfriend, and that’s all that mattered right now.
