Many people would call Wednesday Addams' life a charmed life, or one that she had coming to her due to the rather kooky (or spooky) background of hers. She just believed it to be incredible luck. And the last few months had been a rather prominent show of that idea. But even so, she knew that the mysteries of Jericho and her school, Nevermore Academy had not been finished. Someone was watching her. And they had made their intentions very clear as well. It also seemed very coincidental that when both Laurel Gates and Tyler Galpin had been arrested for the murders committed prior to the ominous unknown texter on Wednesday texting out the message, "I'm watching you."
Clearly, it was possible that today's stalker would be tomorrow's nemesis and that her previous adversaries were simply pawns of a bigger game. But all Wednesday had hit in this past couple of months were dead-ends. Normally, she'd like that as a challenge. And she did. Until it was clear that she had gone nowhere.
Of course, the world wasn’t going to wait. As January soon rolled around, Nevermore went back in session to start the new year. Wednesday had already gotten an early start as she had been dropped off already and was finishing setting up her side of her dorm with Thing. She heard the door open as a familiar roommate entered.
“Wednesday! I missed you so much, and I’m glad you didn’t try to run away this time,” Enid Sinclair said as she gave her a hug.
Normally, Wednesday wasn’t a hugger. But since Enid had already hugged her once before, it was fine by her. At least for now.
“Glad to see you haven’t changed Enid,” Wednesday said flatly as Enid pulled away.
Enid replied, “Is that meant to be sarcastic, or are you genuinely glad I haven’t changed?”
“Who knows?” Wednesday responded as she turned to look back at her family.
Enid laughed as she said, “Anyways, there’s someone new who I think you’d want to meet. He’s an old friend of mine and he already finished his dorm priorities. Since we have some time before class, we can go right now!”
Wednesday decided to join her, even though she wasn’t close to being thrilled about meeting someone new. But soon enough, they were outside as Enid quickly ran over to greet her boyfriend, Ajax Petropolus. Another individual was also talking to Ajax and Enid, and he had an all-gray uniform on. Something about this brown-haired individual made Wednesday feel the urge to electrocute him. But obviously, this wasn’t the time or place.
Wednesday walked over and asked, “I presume this is the new student?”
The individual turned to look as Enid and Ajax both turned as well and waved.
“This is Christopher Callum, an old friend of mine,” Enid said with a smile.
“No need to be formal,” Christopher replied, “Just call me Chris.”
“Oh, I got to put my stuff in the dorms, so I should get going,” Ajax said.
“I’ll help. I guess we’ll be back, we'll see you guys in class!” Enid added with a smile.
As the two left, Wednesday and Chris were silent for a few seconds, before Chris said, “Well, you obviously know who I am now, and you are…?”
“Wednesday Addams,” Wednesday answered.
“I see Enid’s rather colorful personality brought in someone that’s a completely different person. I can relate to that,” Chris continued.
Wednesday asked, “Why did you choose gray for your uniform?”
“Couldn’t decide between black or white. Besides, it shows how unimpressive my life is. Why choose black for your uniform?” Chris asked right back.
“I’d rather not be seen in that unsettling shade of blue, and the only reason I chose black is because there’s no color darker. Besides, it underlines the homicidal maniac in me,” Wednesday answered right back. “How’d you end up here, anyways?” she asked.
Chris said, “Well, I live on my own mostly. I was staying with my aunt and going to the school near her house. But anyways, I nail-gunned a classmate after he stole my lunch money. Also, I broke the arm of his accomplice. Both lived, and I managed wipe it off my record. I didn’t want to let people know…”
“That you failed to finish the job?” Wednesday asked.
“Exactly,” Chris said.
Wednesday simply replied, “Pretty depressing. Someone lost body parts when I put piranhas in the swim team’s pool. But like you, I sadly didn’t get the job done.”
“Well,” Chris said, “I could tell that it was a solid victory even without the bonus.
Wednesday simply replied, “How can you tell?”
Chris shrugged as he said, “I can read minds. So I can basically sort through thoughts of any person.”
Wednesday said, “In that case, if you use it against me in any way you can say goodbye to talking. I haven’t decided how I’m going to do that yet though.”
“I’m sure you haven’t decided,” Chris responded as he let out a dry chuckle, “I’ve got to get going to class, so I guess I’ll see you around, Addams.”
“Please,” Wednesday said, “Call me Wednesday. If not, I can’t promise you’ll make it through this semester in one piece.”
Chris smirked as he replied, “Noted. I’ll see you around, Wednesday.”
Hopefully not for the near-future, is what Wednesday left unsaid. That urge of electrocuting Chris was still there, but she had to admit, he certainly had a personality that was…more interesting than most of her classmates. He definitely had good looks too, but she wasn’t going to admit that to anyone. Something about this Chris…was different, to say the least.
Meanwhile, as Chris walked to class, he couldn’t help but think about Wednesday. She was definitely more interesting than most of the people he had just met. He liked her personality, and he couldn’t help but feel entranced by her looks. But that couldn’t be something he noticed immediately. He shook his head, but there was something different about Wednesday than anyone else he had met that he cared to remember.
Maybe it wouldn’t be too long before both Wednesday and Chris found out what was so different.
