there's this unique guy in class who always wishes jungwon happy birthday a day early. his name is jay, one of the those who is always mischievous but ready to care.
the both became close when they found out that they were living in the same block, from there they decided to initiate the idea of walking back and forth to school. from this they communicated more often and allowed their friendship to bond.
today is the 8th of february and it's probably the day jay is going to come up to his house and give some gifts as appreciation. for some reason it's only jungwon who is receiving this type of gift treatment as others only get a few words and appreciation.
jungwon scrolled through his messages flooded with spams from the class chat talking about the recent series called, "petals of you." he just glanced through before turning off his phone to prepare himself breakfast.
before he could do so his doorbell rang, through the door peak hole he sees jay holding a couple of gifts.
expecting what's going to happen, he opened the door with a bright smile, "hi jay!!" jay just smiled back passing the well prepared gifts, "happy birthday! i can't believe you are already a year older!"
jungwon just giggled, "yeah! time flies by fast doesn't it." jay just nodded not knowing what to respond.
"anyways thank you for the gift! do you.. perhaps wanna hang for a while at my house?" jungwon eyes sparkled with hope. he has been too bored at home alone these days due to how it's school break and his only best friend is out on a trip with his partner.
jay didn't gave a second thought before responding, "sure! i would love to."

"honestly felt like forever since you hangout with me at my house, last time was when we had a project.. can't believe that was already a few months!" jungwon widened his eyes at how long it had been.
jay just agreed, "yeah, your house didn't change that much though, that cute baby photo of you there is still hung on the center." he recalls looking at it for the first time wondering how a baby photo could turn out so adorable.
jungwon just plastered a smile thinking about his memorable childhood, "wanna have some water? perhaps tea? my parents brought a stack of it cause i kept complaining at how tired i am everyday."
jay shifted his vision to the small but big amount of tea bags through the kitchen window, "sure! my throat is feeling thirsty anyways." thinking that this would be the least he could help out with.
finally placing the decorated gift jay handed over, jungwon heads towards the kitchen to pour some freshly hot water into two cups with tea bags hung onto it.
slightly stirring the tea to allow the tea bag to absorb the water making it now flower flavoured, he held the cup handles and headed over to the small table infront of the couch jay is sitting at.
"thank you for the tea." jay grabbed the cup immediately sipping the tea making him mentally curse at himself for not being patient and blow on it.
jungwon just looked around awkwardly trying to find a emergency topic to talk about. looking at the decorated gifts, a bulb lit up in his brain. "did you decorate the gift yourself?"
"um.. i got my mother to decorate it, she also thought me how to so next time when i have to wrap something i have the ability to do it myself." jay scratched his head feeling embarrassed that he can't do something simple at the age of 18.
jungwon just covered his giggle with his hands, "how adorable! my mother is far from me right now." he remembers how his mother had to leave him for her company at new zealand.
both of them continued chit chatting about their past school life before jay excused himself to go back home to help out with his parents. as jungwon waved goodbye he remembers that months ago what caused this miscommunication with the date.

jay walked towards sunoos desk, "hey sunoo, help me out, you're jungwons best friend right? when is his birthday." he questioned.
sunoo thought and hesitated for a second, he doesn't remember though jungwon reminded him multiple times, was it 7th.. of february..? 8th..? 9th..? feeling like he should just pick the middle number he blurted out, "8th of february"
"okay! got it thank you sunoo!"

(continue of flashback)
"um when's your birthday again.." sunoo fidgeted with the sandwich wrapped with plastic that was given by his so called friend who loves him dearly.
"how can you forget for the nth time! it's 9th of february! 9th. of. february." jungwon made it clear for the last time. sunoo slightly gasped, "i think i told jay the wrong date.."
jungwon furrowed his brows, "what do you mean wrong date? my birthday?" he leaned in. "i mean i might have accidentally told jay that your birthday was one day early than the actual.." sunoo tore the plastic wrap slightly.
jungwon mentally gasped, "and i thought you were my best friend who knows everything about me."
"don't get it wrong! i love you very much..! as a best friend but! i don't have a big brain to contain all your information.." sunoo closed his eyes tightly feeling embarrassed that he couldn't remember a special date.
jungwon just sighed, "whatever, i will just take this as a opportunity to see how long it will take without me telling him."

so from there on jungwon decided to challenge how long it will take for jay to finally find out though the other didn't agreed on it.
as jungwon finishes washing the cups he decided to open the box of gift he just received. in there was a note and rows of heart chocolates, it seem like there were random and special flavors of the chocolate, how exciting.
jungwon just threw in the first chocolate munching while starting to read the note jay hand written.
"hey jungwon, it's been awhile since we had our first encounter and friendship, i have to say when it comes to hanging out with you i get more excited as you are a fun person to be around with, your reactions are adorable i have to admit, i hope you have a happy 18th birthday! enjoy the chocolate i gave you!"
as jungwon smiled at the hand written note, he finally tasted the flavor of the chocolate, it had a rich hazelnut whipped with creamy milk chocolate just like how jungwon is whipped for the person who just wished him a happy birthday.
oh did he mention yet? ever since their first encounter and jays first time wishing him happy birthday on a wrong date, jungwon has been secretly stealing glances of jay, he was every type of guy you want from his personality, to put it straightforward, he's only one of the only acceptable guy that can do the bare minimum.
so far jungwon witnessed him rejecting every single women that exists in this school. everytime they turn back running back to their friend group crying their mascara out, how typical.
jungwon felt unsure though, he is a men and so is jay, how could he be so sure of jay to be attracted to men before confessing?
he did consider that one time though, but of course, the society opposing the idea of dating the same gender had to destroy all his confidence and determination.
so all he can do now is to just admire from afar and let the love just fade away like how a river flows, which is quite hard considering how jay keeps making jungwons heart pound.
before jungwon could continue his record of spacing out at the note his phone rang, grabbing it he sees sunoos name on the call name.
"hello jungwon!" sunoo waved through the screen. jungwon just widened his eyes seeing the background, "are you at the eiffel tower!?" sunoo just nodded his head in response.
"felt like i should be sharing this moment of being at an iconic place with you since we are so iconic." sunoo slightly spun himself around to allow jungwon to see more view.
"ayy.. where's your boyfriend though?" jungwon asked. "he's buying some food from a food truck nearby, we heard that they served food with good reviews so we purposely chose today to visit the view while eating nearby."
jungwon just smirked, "how romantic huh?" he wiggled his brows. "stop the teasing!" sunoo blushed. "hey i see your boyfriend coming back in the background." jungwon sharp eyes caught a familiar person walking closer.
sunoo looked back immediately like a person who haven't met his dear in years, "he's back with the food!" sunoo excitedly clapped.
"go and have your lovely dovely time with your boyfriend, i don't want to be third wheeling yall virtually." jungwon nagged. "hmph! okay fine, byebye jungwon! see you soon." sunoo sent a flying kiss before hanging up the call.
finally relaxing from his stiff position, he went to the toilet to do his business.

next day arrived quickly and it's finally jungwons real birthday, immediately opening his phone to see sunoo spamming stickers and happy birthdays, he clicked on it and went on typing happily.
clicking on the next one he sees a text from his mother after a while.
"happy birthday jungwon, i transferred you some money go treat yourself you deserve it." jungwons mother ended the text with a heart emoji.
smiling at how the typical lovely mother he had that is so far away from him, he went on to check his bank.
"geez! five thousand?" jungwon gasped. that was the most amount someone transferred him before.
his mothers company was quite successful though, everyday they have good sales and their payment were good for employees. being the ceo must made her so much money to be willing to give this handful to the son.
finally releasing the air he held after being shock, he decided that maybe he should go out and buy some things for himself as a treat.
as he headed towards the bathroom to wash up, he wore his best looking clothes and headed off to his first destination. the one and only area that people gather around to buy expensive items.

"you have arrived." the driver click on the button opening the automated door. he thanked the driver and exited the van patting his clothes slightly.
alright, it's time for him to go swipe his card that is now loaded with extra money.
as he went from store to store to find some accessories. he suddenly see a familiar back, "jay?" jungwon called out. he finally turned back widening his eye in shock, "oh jungwon! what are you doing here?" jay questioned.
"oh my mother transferred me some cash to treat myself as for my birthday."
"i thought it was yesterday?"
crap. "u-um.. it's a late birthday gift that's why..!" feeling that the situation is a bit ridiculous, he fidgeted with his clothes, why did he need to nervously lie to jay when he deserves to know that a miscommunication happened?
"oh..! that's cool!" jay replied. "so.. what are you doing here? are you buying accessories for yourself?" jungwon spotted jay holding a necklace.
"not really.. valentines is coming up so i am buying something.. for someone that i had feelings for." jay bravely said it out for the first time.
feeling a bit disappointed jungwon tugged his clothes, "you.. like someone?" all jungwon see was jay nodding happily, like he was thinking about his love of his life in his mind.
sighing and thinking that maybe he should give up his love entirely for him he responded, "i really wish you the best! hope she likes you back." jungwon cheered.
jay just slightly giggled, "what's so funny?" jungwon tilted his head. jay just shook his head, "by the way can you come here for a second? i need to test whether this necklace is the perfect size."
feeling confused he walked forward leading them to only have a few centimeter of space left. as jay hook the necklace onto jungwons neck he looked proud, "the necklace i chose was perfect! you should look at yourself it looks really great on you." jay complimented.
jungwon just looked through the mirror, the necklace does fit him very well but.., "though it looks great on me izn't it for someone else though? what if it doesn't fit her?"
jay just smiled, "i'm pretty sure it will fit well, don't worry about it, i think i should be the one feeling that instead." he reassured.
still feeling a bit upset, jungwon just smiles back. "do you perhaps wanna go out and eat lunch together?" jay suddenly initiated a lunch date.
feeling like this might be the last time he can hangout like this with jay he decided to nod his head agreeing.

as they headed towards a fancy palace restaurant, jungwon looked around in awe, never in his life has he seen such a expensive and well decorated dining area before.
"my parents brought me here before and the food was great, felt like you should try out as well!"
as the both made their way to a table the waitress was leading them to, they took a seat allowing them to face each other.
jay opened the menu not bothering to spend a single glance at the prices, unlike him, jungwon immediately landed his eyes on the price.
"this is quite pricey.." jungwon flipped through finding something affordable. "if it's too expensive i can help you pay." jay sounded like he had no care in spending a few more hundred dollars.
jungwon just shook his head feeling ashame, "i can afford it's just quite shocking cause i typically eat food cheaper than this!" he confessed.
jay just nodded his head before returning to checking out the menu items.

after a long while of discussing what they are going to order their food had finally arrived. "thank you for the meal!" jay and jungwon said in unison.
as the both of them started eating jungwon asked something, "it's such a coincidence that we found each other here, it's quite far from our block, ain't it?" jungwon looked up.
seeing at how jay had no response, he just awkwardly place another slice of meat in his mouth to keep him busy.
"oh sorry, it's basic manners for me to not talk while eating, but yeah what a coincidence." jay replied late.
jungwon just understood and return eating as he doesn't want to keep distracting jay from eating peacefully.

"jay i need to use the restroom real quick." jungwon excused himself after clearing his plate and a glass of juice. jay just chewed the last piece of food and immediately requested for the bill.
as jay swiped his card, jungwon returned knowing what he just did. "jay! i haven't pay for mine yet! how much is it?" jungwon tried peeking at the receipt.
jay just quickly excused the waitress making her leave with the receipt. "just treat me some other time." he replied.
weird, next time? shouldn't he be doing that to the girl he is going to confess during valentines?

time flew by quick, it was already valentines and jungwon doesn't have one, sighing he checked his phone refreshing jays social media to see if he is finally with that girl he liked.
suddenly his doorbell rang, he peek through the hole, jay? what is he doing here when he should be confessing to that lucky girl.
finally twisting the door knob, he opened the door, "what are you doing here jay?" jungwon questioned.
"well truth is, i wanted to ask you something.." jay hesitated looking scared.
"what's going on? did something go wrong with the girl you were-"
jay then cut him off, "no it's not.. the thing is it wasn't even a girl, it's a guy that i had been liking for a while now and i feel like i should just truthfully say it out loud, jungwon, can you be my valentines and be my boyfriend?" he finally looked up to jungwons now stunned eyes.
it seemed like his world stopped for a second, it was too good to be true, the whole time he was unhappy about how lucky the person was, but the whole time it was him?
"jungwon? are you okay? you don't need to feel sorry you kno-"
now it's jungwons turn to cut jay off, "no i'm just shocked.. i actually feel the same way, but when you said that you had someone you liked i thought it wasn't me and almost gave up.."
jay just let out a sigh of relief and hooked the necklace that is officially jungwons and the sign to initiate their start of a relationship. jungwon touched the gem of the necklace.
"no wonder the necklace suits me so well.."

from there on their relationship grew into a stronger one, one that cannot even be explained, one that is strong in connection that seemed impossible to break off.
sunoo headed to jays desk, it was jungwons birthday in a week and he gave up making jay keep believing the wrong date of jungwons birthday.
sunoo slightly knocked at jays table, "i need to tell you something.."
"what is it?" jay removed his earpiece. "truth is.. the whole time i actually accidentally tell you the wrong date.. the whole time, jungwons birthday was 9th of february.. don't get mad at me! jungwon wanted to see how long you would take to realise his real birthday but i can't take it anymore hiding this from you, you should honestly throw him a birthday party at his real date as a surprise and for your 1st anniversary as.. boyfriends." sunoo explained and planned out in detail.
jay wasn't even mad at that point but shocked, the whole time jungwon hid the fact that his birthday was a day after? finally snapping back to reality he slightly chuckled. "maybe i should pull a prank as a revenge.."
and so did 8th of february came, the day jay is so called suppose to wish jungwon a happy birthday. jungwon woke up early in the moment in preparation to receive jays birthday wish. he went ahead to apply extra care in his morning routine. as he step out he was greeted with a half asleep yet good looking jay greeting him a good morning.
weird, jungwon thought, maybe he is still tired are need sometime to process? as he plops onto the couch and turn on his television, his eyes kept following every movement jay done, the television show is just a background noise at this point.
jay just looked back with a straight face, "what's wrong?" he asked concerned. jungwon just huffed putting a pillow on his lap, "nothing just felt bored." he lied.
though jay knew the reason why jungwon was acting this way, he continue making his coffee.
through out the day it was just jay and jungwon on the couch cuddling or intertwining hands while watching random shows the television broadcasted.
jungwons patience was running low but he couldn't give up his challenge with jay on how long it takes for him to realise. he justs let go of his intertwined hand with jay and excused himself to the toilet.
as he entered the bathroom he splashed water onto his face, what's going on? does jay not love him and remember his birthday though it's a day early? questions flooded his mind.
shaking his head away he just wipes his face finally stepping out and so the day went by slow.
night finally came and jay already fell asleep leaving a awake jungwon staring at the ceiling.
what the heck? did jay forget about his birthday? he felt frustrated, is this what happens to couples that has been too long with each other? sighing for the nth time of the day, he just adjusted himself forcing him to sleep.
the next day arrived and jay seemed to woke up first, checking the time he realised he overslept, he typically wakes up early but due to his overthinking he slept later than usual.
brushing his hair and adjusting the blanket on the bed he stepped out of the room seeing a empty living room, he scanned the kitchen. it seemed like jay might had left for some errands. but usually he will leave a note on the fridge but today was different, no messages or notes of him needing to go and run errand.
coming to conclusion that jay might be bored of him he justs pours himself a bowl of cereal and went on thanking the people who sent him birthday wishes.
as he replied to multiple text he suddenly received a emergency text from jay saying he needs him at his house. thank god it was nearby so jungwon went on wearing somewhat decent clothing before rushing out to help out.
as he opens jays house with the keys he made for jungwon, he entered to see nothing but plain darkness though it's broad daylight.
wandering his eyes around the light finally turned on, it was jay jumpscaring him with a confetti.
feeling shocked jungwon questioned, "i thought you didn't know my birthday was today?"
jay just let out a laugh, "sunoo confessed to me that your birthday was today and you challenged me or something, so i decided to prank you back."
jungwon just let out a sigh of relief, at least his boyfriend now knows the date of his actual birthday. from there they shared their day with meaningful moments with a splash of cuddles and kisses.
