“Why is the smoke alarm going off?” Steph asked as she entered the apartment after shopping.
“I was trying to make you a Valentine’s dinner. One that wasn’t made by Alfred for once. But it turns out that a roast and veggies is harder than you would think.” Jason replied as he used a towel to fan the air under the alarm. “Can you open the windows for me, please? Maybe if we air it out, this noise will stop sooner.”
“I love that you tried to make something amazing, but I would have been just as happy with Pizza from Tommy’s down the road,” Steph commented as she headed over to the window to air out the room.
“We end up getting Tommy’s twice a month, not that it isn’t good though. I wanted this to be something special. Something that I did for you. Something that we didn’t do often - a homemade meal of something more than pasta,” Jason explained as he finally got the alarm to stop screaming at them. “I tried following the recipe from a fancy cooking blog but I think our oven is too old to cook anything in it. It’s almost older than we are.”
“You looked up a cooking blog for this?” Steph asked, a smile tugging on the corners of her mouth.
“Well, no one taught me more than toasted sandwiches growing up, and I wanted this to be special for you. Special for us.”
“Even though it didn’t work out how you wanted, I still love the thought and effort you went through trying,” Steph replied as she gave him a kiss on the cheek. “Let’s order Tommy’s tonight, and we can try the roast plan again next week at the manor. Maybe Alfred would be willing to teach us.”
