Tides! Not now...

Summary:

Flynn is nervous for his first official date with Matthias Shaw, with his crew ribbing him for it. Suddenly, a furry friend causes some chaos which was the last thing Flynn needed today.

Work Text:

Flynn Fairwind paced around the Bold Arva deck, more nervous than he would care to admit. This would be his first official date with Mathias Shaw, spymaster of Stormwind. They had met up in the Blue Recluse after Shaw had gotten back from his time being imprisoned but this was the first official DATE. And despite having many lovers in the past, probably more than he cared to admit, this devilishly handsome man made him nervous.

Probably because Shaw could stab a man seven times in seven very lethal places before you could say “Hello”. Why did the most dangerous people have to be the sexiest?

His first mate, a Gilnean named Brannon, came up to him, “Easy with the pacing. You’ll wear a hole in the deck.”

“Sorry, sorry… just nervous about the date.”

“You? Nervous?”

“I know. It is possible. How does my hair look?”

“Like hair.” Des, a night elven crew member called out. They had their arm around the dwarf Mel and the human Carlo had his head in their lap.

“Brown.” Mel added and Carlo just called out “Like shit, so better than normal.”

“So glad I can come to you all in my time of need. Truly we are like a family.” Flynn feigned being hurt before he looked over the railing into the water to see his reflection and try tame his hair.

Instead he saw some yellow eyes appearing back at him.

Like any noble sailors, he screamed in shock and jumped back while reaching for his cutlass. The rest of the crew immediately went to action. Brannon, being a much larger man, shifted into his worgen form and reaching over the railing to grab it before whatever was crawling on the ship could escape.

On to the deck landed a small bundle of fur and teeth. A vulpera. His outfit was to help him cling to the ships undetected but it seems he hadn’t accounted for someone looking right over the side. The fox-man scrambled to get away but with a flick of his wrist, Carlo cast a spell freezing him in place.

“Hey! Watch the wood!” Flynn told him, making Carlo roll his eyes as the crew walked up to the vulpera.

“A horde spy?” Des asked, nudging the squirming fox with their boot. The vulpera managed to bite their boot causing Des to curse and fall back, boot still in the vulpera’s mouth. They cursed at him in Darnassian and Mel helped them up.

“Tides! I hope they're not a spy. Then we’d have to bring him to SI:7 and that means Shaw would be working late and then we will have to move our date until another day and I don’t think my heart could handle that!”

“Glad to see your priorities are in order.” Brannon responded dryly as he grabbed rope to bind and muzzle the vulpera spy. The vulpera snapped at him and said something in orcish but he got a bap on the nose like a naughty puppy. “No.” The vulpera looked confused then angry before calling Brannon several colorful things, this time in common.

“He’s scrappy.” Carlo leaned in to look over their new captive. “Can we keep him?”

“Can we stop treating him like a pet or wild animal?” Mel rubbed her temples. “We need to take him to SI:7 and get him off of our ship.”

“What? And cost me my date?” Flynn looked horrified. The crew and even the vulpera hostage giving him blank unimpressed looks. “I mean, yes… I suppose it’s the proper- ack!”

Suddenly Flynn was being attacked by a.. Sentient rotting hand? Oh Tides no! He pulled it away from him and looked over the edge to see a forsaken coming over the railing, arm missing. Presumably it was the one that he was keeping from scratching his face.

“Shit! We’re being attacked!” He called out and the crew lept into action. More races from the Horde appeared. Thankfully, Flynn’s crew were used to sudden attacks and soon had the threat dealt with, leaving only the vulpera alive.

“Right… that was… something…” Flynn panted, sheathing his cutlass. “Hopefully that’s the last- I’m gonna be late!” He suddenly realized and started running off the ship.

“Hey! What about the bodies and our buddy!” Carlo yelled at him.

“No time! I have a date! Just… figure it out!” He shouted as he continued running towards the Blue Recluse. He arrived, sweaty and his hair an absolute mess. He tried to tame it before entering the tavern.

Shaw wasn’t there yet. He felt his stomach drop. Was he stood up? Did something happen? He ordered a mug and started drinking slowly when the dashing copper-headed assassin finally showed up. He had his arm in a sling, a black eye, and several scratched.

“I am sorry I was delayed. We had an incident as SI:7, I tried to be prompt.” He told him as he gestured for the waitress.

Flynn laughed and his hand went to Shaws, “Tides, I think we’ve both had an exciting night.”
