Work Text:
Trembling, your hand raises. You grasp a knot in the tree.
“I can do this” you say to yourself as you gulp, attempting to hide your fear. You squint your eyes tight, one half-cocked open, and slowly, you reach out, further.
A fuzzy tuxedo cat, very neatly groomed, at looks down at you from the top of the tree. He is absolutely aware of your very annoying, very loud presence.
Kakashi stared bemused,
“...You alright?”
“Peachy.” You’re literally only five feet off the ground. But you can do this right? Oh, lordt.
No. You’re struggling. But to heck with telling him that! Pssh. “I’m amazing.” You think.
You had never climbed a tree before. You weren’t a shinobi, the oh-so-cool Kakashi Hatake might be, but you were just a civilian. You hadn’t bothered with tree climbing. You’d rather spend your day sitting under the tree, not in it. But this was important.
Kakashi was getting pretty tired of waiting around but did think it was partially cute, and wanted nothing but to let you try your best. If he helped he’d never hear the end of it anyway.
A few moments pass, you take a deep breath – your hand raises aaaaaand.... you start to slide down the tree awkwardly.
skkkkkkkkkrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
You slide all the way down until you meet Kakashi eye-to-eye, shamefully. He’s silent. You’re silent.
“Not. A word.”
He nods.
He stands up straight, clears his throat, and with the back of his foot, kicks the tree.
Thunk.
The cat you so very effortlessly climbed to save, gives the both of you a stink eye.
It quickly jumps down the tree albeit a bit awkwardly, and runs away into a nearby bramble patch.
You glare at Kakashi, to which he smiles behind his mask.
“Thanks for the help.” He says.
It’s only Monday.
