"Ugh! He hasn't asked me to be his Valentine yet!" Ino complained on a sunny afternoon over some refreshments at a near-by concession in town. "I've given him so many openings for him to ask and nothing!"
Hinata blinked, apparently missing the memo. "Oh? That's a thing? I didn't realize."
"Uh! Yes, ma'am! Every year without fail!" Ino crossed her arms, miffed at it being a week away without a promise of a Valentine. "Sai asked last year, (unprompted!) and I've been waiting since FOREVER for him to ask me this year."
Hinata worried her lip, and rubbed her protruding belly. "...Should I be expecting something from Naruto-kun?"
"Absolutely!" Sakura said with passion, possibly miffed about her own love situation. "He should be showering you in bouquets of flowers and expensive jewelry to make up for the years of his tactlessness, honestly."
Hinata simply smiled, "No, it's okay. He's done enough for me. I'm very grateful for him."
There was one week left for Valentine's Day and all Hinata had planned for it was to bake some simple chocolate hearts for Naruto. Which were easy to eat and easy to prepare so it's a win-win for both of them but aside from that, she didn't realize this tradition had to go beyond that.
Hinata and Naruto had been together for the past two Valentine's Day already and apparently he needed to ask her to be her Valentines? Does that null their last previous Valentines celebrations? She didn't want to have to worry about this. With a child on the way that was due next month, there was already so much to be worried about. It wouldn't be good to add another stressor into her life, for the sake of the baby.
The next few days leading up to Valentine's Day, she waited around for something from Naruto but he probably doesn't know that little factoid she just learned herself, either. It would only be wise to make him aware of it.
With that, she had a grand idea! Instead of telling him about the Valentine's tradition—and possibly stressing him out—she decided to make it simple and she planned out waking up early in the morning on Valentine's Day.
"Good morning, Hinata!" Naruto said, bending down to give a kiss on her cheek, then he bent down to her belly and gave it a kiss, "Good morning, Boruto!"
"Good morning, dear!"
"How come you're up so early? I mean, you always wake up early but this time it was like way early? Did the baby wake you?" He asked, worriedly looking down at her belly.
"Oh no, nothing like that. Actually…" She let out a small smile, suppressing an even bigger one. "I have a surprise for you so close your eyes."
Naruto raises his brow with a smile, "Oh? A surprise? Yes, please!" he responded, jokingly puckering his lips out for a kiss.
Hinata laughed and swat at his arm playfully as she made her way into the kitchen, retreating her special gift for her special guy.
She set the plate down, and nervously swallowed a lump in her throat. Why was she nervous when they have been together long enough? Well, new things are always exciting when it comes to Naruto, and by Boruto's slight kick to her stomach, she can tell he's feeling her nervous jitters of excitement.
"OK, open them!" Hinata finally said, after making sure the presentation was perfect.
Naruto blinked down to the beautifully presented omurice plate, with a big heart encircling the words intricately drawn in ketchup, 'Will you be my Valentines, Naruto-kun?'
"Your Valentine?" Naruto asked, smiling despite his confusion. "But I'm already yours."
Hinata's heart could burst at his foreward words, so simple yet so true, she was lucky to admit. "Is that a yes then?" she asked with a cute pout.
Naruto leaped up from his seat, the chair scrapping against the wood flooring. He grabbed Hinata by the shoulders and brought her forward, kissing her senseless.
Needless to say, the special breakfast went a little cold from Naruto's fiery excitement.
