Bunny Business

Summary:

Atsumu inhales sharply when He hears Kiyoomi’s footsteps coming down the hall, bracing himself for what’s to come.

“What are you doing?” Kiyoomi's voice echoes in the quiet room.

Atsumu hadn’t even realized he closed his eyes. He opens them slowly, and he isn’t prepared for what he sees.

Kiyoomi is standing in front of him, his hands cupped gently around a small ball of caramel-colored fluff. No, not fluff. Fluff doesn’t have two beady eyes and long, floppy ears.

No, Kiyoomi is holding a bunny.

A very cute, very fuzzy bunny cupped in his beautiful hands.

Work Text:

Atsumu had been trying for weeks to find a perfect way to ask Kiyoomi out for a date.

You see, Atsumu didn’t want it to be awkward. He’s had too many bad experiences in the past, leaving him heartbroken.

Just the mere thought of being rejected by the guy he’d been pining for since high school makes his chest feel heavy.

The perfect opportunity comes along one day after practice when he overhears a conversation Kiyoomi is having on the phone.

“Mom! You know I can’t just leave her alone for that long! What if she starves? She needs time to run around!”

Atsumu peeks around the corner, catching a glimpse as Kiyoomi pinches the skin between his eyebrows in frustration.

Atsumu can’t help but feel a little taken back. He’s never heard Kiyoomi get so heated about something, especially on the phone.

Atsumu continues listening, peeking out from behind the corner.

“Look—no mom please don’t—ugh! You're not listening to me! This is serious!” He says into the microphone.

Kiyoomi clenches his fist, running a hand through inky curls as the woman on the other end yells loud enough to be heard through the speaker.

“Fine then, I’ll figure something else out. Goodbye.”

Kiyoomi’s call ends, the man taking a deep inhale through his nose as Atsumu tries to pretend he didn’t just eavesdrop on his crush.

As causally as possible, Atsumu walks the rest of the way into the locker room, a towel wrapped around his neck as his hair drips onto his clothes.

Immediately upon entering Kiyoomi looks up, his icy glare focusing on Atsumu.

The blonde throws his hands up in the air. “I just got here I promise! Only heard the goodbye part!” Atsumu lies, a nervous laugh escaping his throat.

Kiyoomi rolls his eyes. “You’re not good at lying Miya, did anyone ever tell you that?” He answers sharply.

Atsumu gulps, averting his eyes to the floor. This is not how this was supposed to go.

“Well from what I did hear, it sounds like yer in a pickle.” He mumbles, picking at the chipped tile with his shoe.

“It’s complicated.” he retorts.

Atsumu rolls his eyes, running his hands through his damp hair, the back of his neck still dripping from his shower.

“‘M sure it ain’t that big a deal Omi.” He says.

Kiyoomi stares at Atsumu for a few moments, dark eyes scanning the blonde for any sign that he’s messing with him.

“I just, y’know, thought maybe I could help ya out? But hey, if ya rather deal with it on yer own, be my guest,” Atsumu says.

A few moments of silence follow, and Atsumu takes that as defeat.

He spins on his heel, already heading towards the exit with curses under his breath when Kiyoomi surges forward and places a hand in front of Atsumu’s path, blocking him from going any farther

“Wait. You said you’d help me?” Kiyoomi asks, his body so close Atsumu can smell his cologne. The smell is intoxicating, making Atsumu’s head spin. From here, he can count each individual eyelash.

His heart skips a beat.

“Y-yeah of course! Only if ya felt comfortable though I don-“ he says before he’s cut off by Kiyoomi grabbing his wrist.

“Perfect. Go grab your stuff, I need you to come to my place.”

Atsumu blinks.

“Yer place?” He prys.

Kiyoomi leans back, pinching his brows together slightly. “Yeah, is that a problem? I thought you said you’d be willing to help.”

Atsumu shakes his head, willing the blood to stop rushing into his face. He’s sure he’s already glowing pink.

“I do I do! It’s just- kinda sudden y’know?” Atsumu fumbles his words, making a fool out of himself in front of his crush.

“No. I don’t think it’s Sudden.” Kiyoomi starts, finally letting go of Atsumu. He turns around, running a hand through the curls in front of his face.

“I just- I need help. I’m not asking again. Are you coming or not?”

Atsumu's mouth goes dry, the words gone. He simply nods, never breaking eye contact. Kiyoomi nods back, taking Atsumu’s confirmation to heart. He grabs his gym bag off the ground, hoisting it onto his shoulders.

“Follow me once you have your things.” He says, and then he’s off, walking towards the exit.

Atsumu’s never gathered his things so quickly in his Whole life.

They make it to Kiyoomi’s apartment—a minimalistic-styled one with two bedrooms—in decent time. Kiyoomi slides his card across the lock as Atsumu stands a few feet behind, tapping his foot anxiously.

What could /possibly/ be so important? Kiyoomi didn’t really care much about anything other than Volleyball and his cleaning supplies as far as Atsumu was aware.

Atsumu chuckles to himself at the thought that Kiyoomi could have him watch his favorite vacuum cleaner while he’s gone.

“What’s so funny?” Kiyoomi asks, words harsh.

“Nothing, just thinkin’ bout a joke I heard once.”

Kiyoomi ignores the response, finally opening the door to his apartments and letting them both inside.

Atsumu gawks at the sight. He’s never seen such a tidy room in his entire life. The air smells of lavender and pine, soothing his nerves.

They step into Kiyoomi’s living room, Atsumu on Kiyoomi’s heels. He stops in the middle of the room, causing Atsumu to bump into his back.

“Stay here. I’ll be back” he says.

Then he’s gone, heading down a hallway until he disappears into a room. Atsumu stays quiet, listening to the small hum of the fan above him. Kiyoomi’s voice comes in from down the hall, hushed and sweet. Like he’s talking to a baby.

There’s no way Kiyoomi has a kid. The man winces every time he sees a child in public.

Atsumu breathes a sigh of relief. The bunny across from him wiggles it’s nose, sniffing at the air.

“This is Momo. I need you to watch her over the weekend because my parents have invited me on a trip.”

Kiyoomi moves the finger Momo's paw is resting on, mimicking the movement of a Wave. He dips his head down, curls dangling down, smiling softly at the animal.

“Momo says hi.” Kiyoomi coos softly, his voice so sickly sweet it almost hurts.

Atsumu’s never seen a cuter thing in his whole life.

“H-hi,” Atsumu says sheepishly, feeling silly for talking to a little bunny.

Kiyoomi walks over to the couch, keeping the fuzzball close to his chest. He sits down and reclines back, laying the small creature onto his ribs.

“Hey sweetpea, how was your day?” Kiyoomi asks the animal softly. The small creature crawls up to his face, giving Kiyoomi a small kiss on his nose.

Kiyoomi chuckles, stroking his hand up and down Momo's back. “Well, that’s good to hear.”

Atsumu stands frozen in place, the breath knocked out of his lungs. His eyes are glued to the gorgeous man splayed out on the couch, talking to his pet so softly it reminds him of a parent talking to a baby.

Kiyoomi shifts his focus over to the blonde. “You can sit down, I have some things I want to talk to you about anyways.”

Atsumu takes the invitation, hesitating a bit before resting on the other side of the couch, keeping a small gap between their bodies.

“You can pet her. She won’t bite.” Kiyoomi says.

Atsumu reaches his hand out slowly, making sure not to scare the creature. He runs the back of his hand over her back, fingertips brushing over Kiyoomi’s hand.

Her fur is silky under his fingertips. The under layer of her coat is thick, with a light fuzz coming out on top. It reminds him of a dandelion, her fur the perfect combo of downy and smooth.

“Woah, she’s super soft.” Atsumu whispers

“Mhm, she’s very good at taking care of her fur. My good girl.” Kiyoomi responds, his eyes locked on his pet.

Atsumu licks his lips, his mouth still dried out from earlier. “So, what do we need to talk about?”

Kiyoomi whips his head around, his eyes squinted and his eyebrows pushed downwards. A look of clear annoyance.

“Well, I have to make sure I’m not leaving my baby with a complete idiot. Have you ever had a pet before Miya?”

Atsumu sits on his heels, thinking for a moment. “Well me and ‘Samu shared a hamster when we were kids. I’ve had a few fish here and there too.” He says.

Kiyoomi nods. “Okay, that makes me feel a little better.”

They sit in silence for a few moments, the only sounds coming from Momo sniffing at Kiyoomi’s sweatshirt.

“You never said anything after I told you what I needed. you’ll be able to watch her?” Kiyoomi asks.

Atsumu thinks about his schedule for the rest of the week. He has practice every day leading up to Friday, lunch with Samu on Thursday. He’s completely cleared for the weekend.

“Oh sorry, guess I got distracted by how cute she was. I’ll be able ta keep an eye on her.”

Kiyoomi runs his finger from her nose up to her forehead, scratching behind her ears softly. “What do you think huh? Should we let blondie over there take care of you while daddy leaves?”

Atsumu could collapse. He doesn’t know if it’s the warm lighting or the fact that Momo looks so tiny and precious on Kiyoomi’s chest but it is a sight he never thought he’d see in a million years. Just from the way he talks, you can tell Kiyoomi loves this pet more than anything. Atsumu feels a small twinge of jealousy when Kiyoomi places a small kiss on the top of her head.

“Okay. It’s settled then. We’ll continue the rest of the week like normal, but make sure to bring extra clothes that day. You can come home with me that day so I can run over the rules and her routine.”

Atsumu nods, standing up from the couch. “Sounds good Omi, I’m sure we’ll get along just great.” He flashes a small smile, to which Kiyoomi ignores.

Atsumu gathers his things and heads to the door. As he leaves he hears Kiyoomi utter a quick “see you tomorrow.” Before shutting the door behind him.

The week progresses slower than normal after that, the afterimage of Kiyoomi with that adorable little bunny cradled in his lap haunting his dreams.

Friday morning, Atsumu makes sure to pack an extra bag, as instructed. He heads to practice that morning with an extra bounce in his step, excited to finally get to spend time with that small ball of fuzz that Kiyoomi adores so much.

Kiyoomi doesn’t give him so much as a look when he arrives, even after Atsumu gives him his typical morning greeting. Practice goes as planned, and soon enough they’re in the locker room again getting ready to go home for the weekend. Atsumu takes the quickest shower in his whole life, hair still dripping onto the floor when Kiyoomi finally walks out of his.

After gathering their things, Atsumu follows Kiyoomi back to his apartment, two bags in hand.

Again, Kiyoomi unlocks the apartment door with ease, allowing Atsumu into his home once more. Atsumu looks around it, taking in the entirety of the open floor.

“Omi, Yer place is amazin’!” Atsumu exclaims, setting his bags on the floor behind the couch.

“Yeah yeah, don’t get any ideas. If I find out you touched anything you’re not supposed to, I’ll never let you live another day.” Kiyoomi shouts from another room.

Atsumu shivers at the thought. “Got it…”

Kiyoomi emerges out of a room at the end of the hall, a black backpack hauled over his shoulder with a piece of paper in his hand.

“What’s that?” He asks, pointing to the sheet.

“This,” Kiyoomi starts, unfolding the paper until it’s flat. “Is all of the details about Momo's daily schedule. Simple things, like when she needs to eat, play, things like that.”

Atsumu can’t help but laugh a little, shaking his head. “Ya gotta be pullin’ my leg Omi, there’s no way that lil thing needs a schedule.”

Kiyoomi doesn’t laugh, and his face remains the same. Cold and unexpressive.

“I’m being serious. She is very particular about how things are done.”

Atsumu crooks his eyebrow, pressing his lips into a flat line. “Mhm okay Omi, whatever ya say.”

He takes the paper from his hand, slipping it into his pocket. He’ll read it later once he’s gone.

“So, where do ya want me to put my stuff?” He says.

Kiyoomi shrugs, jostling his curls back and forth.

“You can sleep on the couch and keep your stuff there. There’s also an extra futon in the closet over there if you’d prefer that.”

Atsumu nods and gives Kiyoomi a thumbs up.

Kiyoomi doesn’t say anything else, pushing his way past Atsumu and heading to the front door.

“The keys will be right here if you need them. There’s plenty of food in the fridge, so help yourself. Check the mail before dinner and set it somewhere where you won’t forget it. Please, please don’t destroy this place.” Kiyoomi instructs as he puts his shoes on.

“Omi, I’m not some little kid. I think I can handle house-watching for a few days.” He says.

Kiyoomi scoffs. “You're not just house-sitting, remember? You have a job to do Miya. If I come back and anything has happened to her, I’ll fucking kill you.”

Atsumu can’t respond back before Kiyoomi’s already out the door. Before he can shut it, Atsumu pulls it back.

“Wait Omi! I forgot ta ask you somethin’!”

Kiyoomi huffs, pulling his bag up further onto his shoulders. “Well  go on then, I don’t have all day.” He gestures towards the window outside.

“I was just uh thinkin'…ya know…since I’m doin ya a favor and all I thought I deserved a reward in return.” Atsumu says, rocking the door back and forth on its hinges.

“A reward huh? You don’t just want to be paid for watching her?”

“No…I was thinkin’ maybe I could pick what I wanted from ya.” He responds, his voice veering off at the end.

Kiyoomi smiles slightly, his eyebrows raising in amusement. “Okay, sure. You can pick whatever you want as your reward as long as all goes well when I’m gone. Deal?”

Atsumu nods, not hiding the smile crawling across his lips. “Mhm! Sounds good! See ya later omi!”

And with that, Kiyoomi’s gone and Atsumu is alone. He’s not worried though. Watching a sweet little bunny would be a piece of cake. His date with Omi was in the bag.

He plops over on the couch, pulling the paper from his pocket and scanning it over. The sheet is filled with Kiyoomi’s intricate handwriting, ink swirled neatly all over the page.

The sheet is filled from top to bottom with times and instructions, filling Atsumu in on what needs to happen when Kiyoomi’s gone. There are notes scribbled on the side, going into detail about how to find each item.

Kiyoomi really was committed to this creature. It’s endlessly endearing and Atsumu can’t help but smile.

Atsumu wasn't too worried about following the schedule closely. After all, it’s just a suggestion. There’s no way a silly bunny would be that committed to a schedule anyways.

Atsumu learned very quickly that he would be proven absolutely wrong.

Around 6 PM, Atsumu had begun making himself dinner when a loud noise came from down the hall.

“What the fuck?”

He heads down the hall to the room where the noise came from, hesitating a little before opening the door.

In the room sits a large cage, as well as tons of other pet accessories. A huge pen, and loads of supplies in the closet. This was definitely Momo's dedicated bedroom.

Of course Kiyoomi would dedicate a whole room to his pet. Just from the way he treated her when Atsumu came last week you could tell he was a dedicated owner.

The loud noise comes again suddenly and Atsumu realized what it was. Momo taps her foot repeatedly against the metal bars of the large cage, making the whole thing vibrate. Atsumu goes over to the cage, sticking his fingers through the metal.

“Hey now, what’re ya doin that for? Is it cuz yer papa left ya?” Atsumu coos.

Momo responds by doing it again, kicking the sawdust out onto the floor.

“Hey! Now I have to clean that up!” Atsumu whines, kneeling down to pick up each piece. The watch on his wrist lights up, showing the time.

7:00

His mind suddenly flashes back  to the list Kiyoomi gave him. One of the main bullets said that Momo ate her dinner at 6:00, every night on the dot.

Atsumu stands, unlocking the cage and taking out her food and water dish and filling them both as instructed. Atsumu was half tempted to just use tap water, but he knew Kiyoomi would be furious with him.

He places them back into the luxurious home, stepping back as Momo hops over and enjoys her meal.

Atsumu runs a hand through his hair, one hand on his hip. “Wow. Never knew a lil thing like ya could eat so much. Thought ya guys just nibbled on stuff all day.” He mumbles to no one.

After a few more minutes, making sure the fluffball seemed content, Atsumu goes back to making his own dinner, humming a love song under his breath.

He spends the rest of the evening relaxing, watching YouTube videos on his phone while laying on the couch until he accidentally falls asleep.

His slumber is short-lived when he hears the same loud noise again. He shoots up, looking around in the darkness. The clock on his watch shows the time.

3:00 a.m.

“What the hell does she want this time?” Atsumu ponders to himself, massaging his eyes as he makes his way down the hall.

As with the last time, Atsumu enters the room where sawdust is spilled all over the floor. He furrows his eyebrows, confused at what he did wrong.

“What’s yer problem? I fed ya didn’t I?” He throws his hands in the air.

He pulls the sheet out of his pocket again, scanning for the time closest to now.

9:00 P.M: clean litter box and tuck in for bed.

Atsumu rolls his eyes. There’s no way this puny little animal has any concept of time.

Atsumu begrudgingly opens the cage, gently lifting Momo out and placing her in the crook of his elbow. With one hand, he begins following Kiyoomi’s instructions, cleaning up the litter box in the corner of the cage.

Momo doesn’t move, instead nuzzling her nose against Atsumu’s chest. Atsumu smiles softly, rolling his eyes.

“Yer so lucky yer a cute lil thing or else I’d be so mad at ya right now” Atsumu says.

He sets down the cleaning supplies in his one hand, taking the bunny out of his elbow and cupping her in both hands. He looks her up and down, watching as her beady eyes stare into his.

“Ya have somethin’ ta say lil one? Or are ya the quiet type?” He asks, running his fingers along her back.

Before Atsumu can even react, he feels a warm stream running down his forearm, soaking through his sleeves.

“What the fuck?! Did ya just- oh my god!” Atsumu exclaims, setting Momo back into her now clean cage.

He takes his sweatshirt off at lightning speed, wiggling his arm back and forth to get it out of the sleeve. He holds the fabric in front of his chest, his now bare back shivering under the A/C unit.

“Y’know, it’s kinda rude to piss all over the guy who’s s’posed ta be taking care of ya.” Atsumu mumbles with a pout playing on his lips. He glares at the fluff ball, who is now happily jumping around sniffing at her fresh bedding.

Atsumu glares at Momo for a few more minutes before walking out of the room, his soiled sweatshirt in hand. Atsumu collapses onto the couch, falling asleep almost immediately.

He wakes up the next morning to the sound of his phone vibrating on the floor beside him.

“Y’ello?” Atsumu grumbles, voice still hoarse with sleep.

“How is it going?” Kiyoomi’s deep voice comes through the speakers, waking Atsumu up completely.

“O-Omi?! Oh my gosh, ya scared the shit outta me!”

“Glad to hear that you slept soundly.” The raven drawls on the other line. Atsumu can practically see his face, his eyebrows furrowed like he’s concentrating.

“I slept fine…just a lil sore. Things went well yesterday, no surprises.” Atsumu hesitates a bit.

He hears Kiyoomi sigh on the other end, along with the sound of seagulls in the background. Atsumu hadn't even cared to ask where his parents were taking him.

“Heya Omi, not to intrude but where did her folks take ya? Sounds like yer on a beach or somethin’.” He says

Kiyoomi snorts. “We just went to our beach house for a weekend. My parents wanted to take me to a show that’s happening on Saturday.”

“Oh,” The blonde replies, unsure of what he expected him to say in the first place.

Kiyoomi begins speaking again. “Well, it’s a relief to hear that things are going fine. Looks like you might actually get what you want after all.”

Atsumu’s heart flutters against his ribs. With all the chaos of the last 24 hours, he had forgotten that this was all to score a date with Kiyoomi. He smiles wide, to lazy to try and cover it in his voice.

“Hell yeah I am! And you thought I couldn’t handle it!” He says cheerfully.

Kiyoomi’s name is called through the other end of the call, causing Kiyoomi’s voice to become muffled when he takes the phone away from his face.

When he comes back, his voice is more urgent, like he’s in a hurry.

“Anyways, I just figured I’d check in. Thank you again for watching her. I’ll call later.”

Atsumu blinks. “Y-yeah no problem! Talk later!”

“Bye Miya”

The call ends, and Atsumu lets his phone linger on his ear a moment before getting up.

This morning, Atsumu doesn’t make the mistake of missing Momo's breakfast. Without skipping a beat, he makes sure that she’s well-fed before making his own breakfast.

While cooking an egg, he ponders how Kiyoomi manages to follow this routine during the week. He knows that he arrives even earlier than him in the morning and he usually leaves somewhere between 3:30 in the afternoon.

Atsumu shrugs, maybe Kiyoomi had a pet sitter. He’s rich enough to afford one.

The rest of the morning is relatively uneventful until lunchtime rolls around. Atsumu checks the schedule and finds an entry for 1:00.

Playtime: allow out of cage, place into pen.

Atsumu rolls his eyes. He cannot understand how this animal is so needy. He always thought that bunnies just sat around chomping on carrots and sleeping all day.

He heads to Momo's designated room, dragging his feet on the rugs leading to it. He’s come to realize taking care of a pet is a lot more work than he thought.

“Heya sweetheart, how’s it goin’ today?” Atsumu asks aloud, despite knowing he’ll get no response.

He follows Kiyoomi’s instructions, setting up the huge playpen just the way it’s described in his writing. He removes Momo from her cage and sets her right in the middle of the area. She doesn’t move, only sniffing the ground beneath her.

“Well go ahead. I set this all up for ya princess” he says, slightly annoyed

When the bunny refuses to move, Atsumu pulls out the paper again, looking for a note on what to do in this situation.

In the top left corner, he finds what he’s looking for.

Atsumu, when it comes time for her to play, sit there with her. She refuses to get her exercise in any other way. Thanks, Sakusa.

Atsumu scans his name over and over. Atsumu. He actually used his first name. Heat floods his cheeks, warming the tips of his ears.

He notes to himself to tear off the edge of the page later to keep it. This moment has to be preserved after all.

Atsumu shucks off his T-shirt, not wanting to risk getting peed on a second time. Slowly, he lowers himself into the cage, sitting right in the corner. He reaches his palm out in Momo's direction

“Hey,” he whispers, smiling a little as the Carmel fluff sniffs his hand.

He reaches over and grabs a small ball made of what appears to be wood. He rolls it between his hands on the floor, in an attempt to get any kind of reaction out Momo.

She follows the toy with her eyes, looking at Atsumu between each roll.

“Ya can play with it. ‘M not gonna stop ya.” He says.

As though she understood, she leaps forward, trapping the ball in her paws. Atsumu leans back as he watches her nibble and roll the ball around with her nose.

He doesn’t know how much time passes. The hours melt away easily when watching and playing with the adorable bunny. Before he knows it, it’s the late afternoon and he is starving.

He cleans up and places the bunny back into her home, leaving to go eat something. He finishes his day normally, not making the same mistakes he did previously.

Dinner time rolls around and Kiyoomi calls him.

“Good evenin’ Mr. Sakusa” Atsumu says as he picks up, smiling smugly as he hears an annoyed huff come from the other end.

“Seems like you’re in a good mood.” He says back.

“I don’t know if ‘good’ is the right word. I’m just fine.”

Kiyoomi chuckles softly. “Okay, whatever you say. How is Momo doing? Did she get her exercise in today?”

Atsumu nods, crunching on a chip while he drones on about everything they did in excruciating detail. Kiyoomi hums on the other side, clearly satisfied with Atsumus answer.

“I can’t thank you enough Miya. Truly.” Kiyoomi says after Atsumu finishes rambling.

Atsumu blushes, running a hand through his hair. “Aw shucks, no need ta thank me. I volunteered after all”

Kiyoomi’s voice drops an octave, almost a whisper. “Im serious. I was worried about leaving her alone but from how it sounds she really enjoys your company.”

His voice causes goosebumps to break out on Atsumu’s arms. It is so weird having Kiyoomi talk to him this way.

“I think she does? I'm just happy she doesn’t bite.” He says.

They talk like this for a while longer, before Kiyoomi is summoned for dinner. Atsumu finishes cleaning up after dinner and then puts Momo and himself to bed. Kiyoomi would be coming home the next afternoon. Finally, time for Atsumu to get that date.

The next morning is lazy and slow, the hours ticking by at a snail's pace. Fortunately, everything goes smoothly and Kiyoomi is back home around lunch time.

Atsumu is laying on the couch, Momo napping on his chest when the familiar click of the front door alerts him.

“Hello?”

Atsumu doesn’t move, just tilts his head up slightly to peer over the couch. He watches Kiyoomi come in, dropping his bag to the floor before coming his way.

Momo immediately perks up, jumping up and down as Kiyoomi scoops her up into his arms.

“Hello! Did you miss me pumpkin?” Kiyoomi coos as the bunny litters his face with tiny kisses. Atsumu watches on as Kiyoomi giggles with each lick.

“Looks like ‘m just chopped liver huh?” Atsumu says, eyes flickering between the raven and Momo.

Kiyoomi adjusts her so that she’s cradled in one elbow, the other hand scratching her fuzzy tummy. He looks at Atsumu with his eyebrows raised, onyx eyes meeting honey gold.

“Looks like you managed to keep this place in perfect shape. I have to say I’m impressed.” Kiyoomi says dryly, moving his head to scan the room.

Atsumu rolls his eyes. “Ya did say you were gonna kill me if I did anythin’.”

“Mm, I suppose I did.”

Atsumu stands up wordlessly, making his way over to his bags. He throws them both over his shoulder, already sliding his shoes on.

“Where are you going?” Kiyoomi asks.

“Home? Now that yer back I don’t really see a point in stayin’.” Atsumu mumbles, trying to avoid Kiyoomi’s gaze.

Kiyoomi steps forward. “What about your payment?”

Atsumu stands up, back facing Kiyoomi. Now that the time has finally come to get what he wants, he’s run out of words.

“Ya know what Omi, don’t worry bout it. Like ya said, I volunteered after all.” Atsumu tries to hide the sadness in his voice, reaching towards the door handle.

“Wait Miy-“ Kiyoomi starts before stopping himself. “Atsumu.”

Atsumu turns around at the sound of his first name, turning to face the curly-haired man.

“Can I take you out for dinner tonight? We don’t have to go anywhere fancy but-“ Kiyoomi gets cut off when Atsumu places his hands on his biceps.

“I would love that Omi. I really would.” Atsumu is smiling so wide it hurts. He doesn’t even try to hide the blush spread all over his cheeks.

Kiyoomi smiles back, his eyes softening. “Good. Because I’ve been waiting forever to finally find a way to ask you.”

They go to dinner that night, melting away the time until they finally have to go home.

Who would’ve thought all it took to score a date with Kiyoomi was a tiny little bunny?
