Work Text:
The day was young as everyone chatted at the long table between them all. It was normal for all of them to eat together at flower fruit mountain, just talking and enjoying each other's company. All of Wukong’s loved ones together in one place and (for the most part) getting along was something he loved to see. Just the idea of all his favorite people eating together and being civil (well as civil as they could be) was enough to make his heart warm a thousand times over.
While Wukong was telling yet another story of his grand heroics, this time something that had happened earlier that very day, he noticed Macaque looking down. He continued to look over at him to see if he was okay, Macaque noticed this quite quickly giving Wukong a slight smile in response to his nonvocal questioning. Wukong, being the stubborn monkey that he is and always will be, didn’t take that as a good enough answer. He continued to tell his story (though rather quickly this time, rushing through on how amazing he was, which was something he would do for very little people) and sat back down in his seat at the head of the table. (Macaque was next to him of course, cause where else would he be but at Wukong’s very side?)
He wanted to ask if he was okay, however he knew that Macaque would evade his questioning until they were alone seeing as Macaque hated talking about personal matters in front of others. However, Wukong thought that this was a good exception to that and that the issue had to be dealt with now, though he felt like that at almost every occasion. He looked at the other monkey yet again to see if he still had a worried expression on his face.
“Relax Macaque, wait till I finish this mission. We will surely return together to this mountain, this waterfall, eating peaches together, forever until the end of time. I promise that upon my return, we can be together forever, maybe even married at that point.” Wukong said quite loudly, making the rest of the table quiet down significantly.
Macaque turned bright red, his face matching his red scarf to a tee. He hid his face in Wukongs shoulder while hitting him with his tail. Wukong laughed loudly at the display from his future husband.
“Peaches!” The shadow monkey squeaked loudly in annoyance at the display of affection. He hit Wukong again with his tail, harder this time.
“Can you two please stop flirting so openly at the table?” Dapeng said, disgusted at the display of his brother and his mate.
“Haha, Sorry.” Wukong said in response, laughing yet again.
Macaque however in response blushed even harder, hiding his face even further into Wukong’s shoulder.
“Aw Plum, you don’t need to hide your face from me.” Wukong said, grabbing Macaque’s face lightly to see his bright red face closely.
“Shut up.” He said, this time headbutting Wukong's shoulder hard, hiding his face in his scarf while doing so.
“Ow, okay okay i’ll stop.” Wukong said laughing yet again, letting go of the others' faces in response.
Macaque whacked him with his tail again, finally getting off his shoulder to sit properly, still hiding his face in his scarf. He groaned in annoyance at the situation, hitting his head against the table. Wukong started almost petting his back making Macaque swat at him with his hand.
Azure Lion coughed loudly trying to get the monkees attention. They both looked over at him in sync, Macaque’s tail still swatting at Wukong’s. It was quite obvious that his brother's tail was trying to wrap itself around the other's waist.
“Dear brother, how about you try and not fluster your future husband at the table.” Azure Lion said, a smile evident on his face.
Wukong laughed as Macaque turned an even deeper red that seemed almost impossible to do. The shadow monkey hit his head on the table groaning in annoyance again. Wukong laughed again at the display, almost falling out of his chair earning a glare from Macaque.
“Aw Mango, you can’t scare me when you look like that.” Wukong said, laughing so hard after he finished to really fall out of his chair.
Macaque in return growled at Wukong and swatted him again with his tail. He got off from his chair, seemingly finally done with Wukongs antics, and left for his and Wukong’s cave not too far from the table with his head buried in his scarf.
“Aw come on Mango.” The other monkey said, getting off his chair as well to follow the shadow monkey, not saving a thought for his sworn brothers who all just continued on with their meals.
Once Wukong entered the cave he could see Macaque huffing on the bed. He walked closer to him, intertwining his tail with the other’s who seemed to almost purr at the act of affection. He sat down next to him, placing his own hands on top of the other’s.
“Plum, will you tell me what's wrong?” Wukong asked as he squeezed the other’s hands lightly in worry that he had messed up with something.
“*sigh* Peaches, I don’t like when you do stuff like that in front of others.” The shadow monkey replied, his red face back to his normal black fur.
Wukong tried to respond only to be silenced by Macaque’s hand.
“It’s not that I don’t like the thought, I appreciate it, I really do. It’s just… I just don’t like them staring at me I guess.” Macaque finished, squeezing his eyes shut in distress.
Wukong stared at the other for a few seconds, contemplating the information he just heard. He had always known that Macaque had a problem with people staring at him, whether that be because they thought he was the monkey king or because of his unique ears. It was obvious to many that knew the shadow monkey that he had some form of Social Anxiety. Wukong however thought it was just applied to people staring at his ears or something else physical, he never knew that he just didn’t like the idea of people staring at him at all.
“Oh Plum, I never knew you felt like that, you should have told me.” Wukong said, grabbing the others hands again and squeezing them.
“I well I tried it’s just you know me… I have difficulties talking about this stuff.” Macaque replied, leaning his head on others' shoulder.
“Oh Mango. I promise I will never do something like that again. I wouldn’t have done it in the first place if I had known you felt like this.” Wukong said, feeling ashamed at his actions.
Macaque paused for a moment before hugging the other and snuggling his head into the other’s shoulder.
“Thank you, Peaches.” He said, basking in the others' embrace.
Wukong smiled and layed down with the other cuddling together. Soon night fell and his sworn brothers decided not to disturb the two monkeys and left flower fruit mountain. Soon after that many other small monkeys crawled next to the big ones to snuggle along with them.
