I thought I would never see you again.

Summary:

Oli and Eva are a couple who recently were given a brand new estate, but what happens when they both die at the hands of the estate? 100 years later, a group of "YouTubers," as they call themselves, have come to bring Eva and Oli back together.

Work Text:

Oliver "Oli" White and Eva Gutowski a big game hunter and a journalist two from arguably two different worlds.

Oli had just come back from a big hunting trip to Africa, so the couple would of course take the opportunity to dance.

The couple were dancing in their living room to the phonograph playing slow music. Oli and Eva are basking in each other’s presence.

Soon there’s a knock at the front door. Oli and Eva stop dancing, confused as to who could be at the door at this hour.

Eva walks up to the door and when she opens it, there’s a man dressed up in a typical postal uniform asking, "A letter for Eva Gutowski?" The postal man brings Eva out of her shock: "Yes, that’s me." Eva answers as she takes the letter.

She closes the door. She sits on the couch next to her husband. They sit in silence. Eva holding the letter in her hands, she looks at Oli, who looks at her, "Well, open it." Oli laughs Eva breathes in and exhales.

She opens the letter and unfolds the paper. Eva could not believe what she was reading.

Hello, Eva Gutowski I am one of your very distant cousins I have just finished building a illustrious estate I would like to offer the estate to you for free I will pay for your moving fees and I will assure you the estate is fully owned by you with the deed included in this letter sincerely your distant cousin.’

Oli who was looking over Eva’s shoulder looked surprised but Eva was even more surprised her owning a large estate it seems too good to be true "do you think this will be a good idea" Eva asks "I don’t see why we shouldn’t it’s free" Oli answers, trying to calm his wife down.

Oli doesn’t see what’s so wrong. "Yeah, you’re right." Eva says, getting up from her place on the couch.

She grabs Oli by the hand, pulling him up off the couch. "Let’s go pack." Eva adds, giving Oli a peck on the cheek.

Eva runs off and Oli stands there for a little moment once Oli realizes Eva ran off he goes off to chase her finally, it’s moving day, and Oli and Eva load all their belongings into the automobile.

Eva’s cousin has allowed them to use. Oli and Eva hop into the front of the car and set off for their new home once Oli and Eva arrived at their new home, Oli stepped out opening the door for Eva.

She stepped out when the couple looked at their new estate and said, "This is our new home, Oli," Oli breaks Eva out of her shocked silence and pulls Eva into their new home.

The couple spent the next week exploring their new estate, with Eva spending most of her time on the study and the library because of her career path, and Oli, when he’s not on a hunting trip, spends most of his time outside in the greenhouse and in the library with Eva.

Eventually, all good things must come to an end. Eva had landed a job writing an article about big game hunting, and all Oli heard when she said that was I get to bring my wife on my long hunting trips.

Oli was more than ecstatic when the trip date came. Part of Eva’s job was interviewing all of the hunting party and taking multiple pictures of the actual hunting.

It was a great time when Oli and Eva had arrived home. Eva had gone to her personal study to organize her contents for the article with the light of a lamp on her desk.

Eva told herself she would turn it off when she was off to bed. However, Eva had fallen asleep with the lamp on. Smoke quickly filled the room with the raging flames.

After Oli ran to where the smoke was coming. He jingles the door knob but it refuses to open. Oli realizes Eva always keeps her study door shut.

He runs to the phone at the edge of the hallway, frantically dials the emergency number, and explains, crying, what happened. Soon the fire department shows up, they put out the fire, and one of the firemen takes out Eva’s body.

Oli rushes after them, which leads him to the hospital. He ends up following the firemen, which leads him to the hospital. Eventually a nurse walks out of Eva’s room.

She looks sad. After a while, she takes a breath. "I’m so sorry for your loss. She had this on her person. I think she wanted you to have it." The nurse mutters.

She hands Oli an envelope. "Thank you." Oli’s voice wobbles he walks out of the hospital Oli gets into his car and drives home once he arrives at Eva’s estate she owned it he walked in Oli sat down not wanting to look at Eva’s study.

Oli turns his attention to the envelope he picked up an ornate letter opener it had been a house warming gift Oli cuts through the wax on the letter; there are two papers in the envelope. Oli takes the first paper out; it’s a letter:

"Dear Oli, if you are reading this, it means I have passed, but I would like to pass this estate to you. I feel that it’s the right move. I’m sorry about leaving you in this way, but I hope you will be able to heal. This letter should hold the deed, and remember, I love you always, Oli, love Eva."

Oli read that paper over and over again, trying to get some form of reason for why Eva would do this. Oli looks at the now open envelope with the deed to the estate.

Oli holds the deed in his hands and sets the deed on the coffee table. Oli walks upstairs and stops at Eva’s study.

Oli grabs the door knob and closes it as gently as he can. He doesn’t want to look at Eva’s study ever again, not unless he’s with her again. Oli ends up dead a year after Eva. He got mauled by an animal that broke into the house when Oli woke up.

Oli tried to run back into the house, but he could only get to the porch before being burned and pushed all the way back down to the outside. Oli looks over at the porch and sees a stack of letter sheets.

Oli takes a stack of letter sheets as well as a pen. Oli goes back to where he woke up. Oli sits down, pulls out his pen and paper, and writes, hopefully, to Eva.

Once his letter is done, Oli folds up his letter. Oli wonders how he’s going to get this letter to Eva. He sees a pigeon and says, "Hey, um, pigeon, I have some sunflower seeds." As Oli takes out some of the seeds from his pocket, the pigeon is attracted to his hand.

"No, not yet, I need you to deliver this to someone named Eva." Oli explains to the pigeon, and the pigeon seems to understand, "I need you to deliver this to Eva. If you can do that, then I will give you some seeds." Oli sits down not expecting the pigeon to come back with a different letter Oli opened it with the pigeon sitting on his shoulder; it was from Eva.

Oli has never been this happy, well, except for his wedding day. With some banter through letters, the pigeons end up being Frank.

They stay like that for a little while while some people come and go and other people become parts of the estate.

Well, until these YouTubers show up. Eva tells Oli about them and says that they're trying to contain the evil poisoning them and the estate. These YouTubers don’t sound half bad.

Eva was in her study pacing; she had seen these so-called YouTubers from her place on the third floor.

When they passed her study, Eva had thought they would leave her alone and let her and Oli’s lettered lives continue, but soon they found one of her scrapped letters to Oli from when they were still alive.

The blonde girl with the pearls reads out her letter; she can see them trekking up the stairs.

Eva quickly turns her head back to her desk she doesn’t know what these people want. Soon they join Eva in her study "who are you?" Eva asks from her desk she turns her head getting a good look at these YouTubers and the new owner of the estate "we’re here to help" the platinum blonde guy in the front of the group.

"Well could you bring me my husband he has not been able to get into this house since he’s died you will need to find three of the letters I have written to him, a notepad, and some kind of seed once you have those things I will tell you what to do next" Eva finishes "and do not fret I will be on the third floor if you need me”  Eva adds she has no doubts about these people finding things she needs; she just hopes, based on the letter she was given with these YouTubers, she will finally be able to leave this room.

The group walks out of her study takes and experimental step out of her study bracing getting thrown back in but surprisingly she doesn’t get pulled back into her study’s burned clutches she walks down the stairs for the first time in what she learns is 100 years Eva will need to tell Oli in her next letter.

But for now she needs to focus on the people she has in trusted with finding the stuff Eva had asked for.

She can hear the group yelling trying to find the stuff Eva had asked for Eva was just enjoying the fresh air of the hallway nothing like the burned remains of her study.

Eventually the YouTubers had come back up to the third floor with all of the stuff Eva had requested "thank you all of you" Eva thanks she claps her hands then Frank flies in the pigeon lands on Eva’s shoulder "well go on write something you found the papers you’re writing to my husband" Eva reminds she sees the platinum blonde man Eva thinks his name is Joey writes down a short message.

Eva skims over what Joey wrote; it’s something about "we’ve freed your wife and we’re coming to free you." Eva gives a seed to Frank, and the group walks down the stairs to catch up with Frank.

Eva follows, clinging to a shred of hope that she will be able to leave the house, and the YouTubers rush out of the house desperate to find Oli.

Eva tries to run out of the house, but she’s stopped by some kind of force field, like the one keeping Eva in her study for all those years.

Eva is not surprised she’s happy she’s out of her burned study; she can’t leave this house till those YouTubers find Oli, but Eva doesn’t even know where Oli is with all the letters they’ve sent.

Eva’s lost count of how many letters they’ve sent to each other in life and death. Oli has made Eva’s life and death more bearable. Eva really hopes they find Oli.

———————————————————————

Oli's sitting by his usual tree; it’s where he used to sit when he was alive. Oli was awaiting a letter from Eva; he had gotten a letter from a mystery person about some new visitors.

Oli was excited; he doesn’t really have people to talk to. Frank shows up with a letter. Oli can only assume it’s from Eva, but there are people following Frank.

Oli thinks that these people must be the aforementioned guests and not the mystery person mentioned once the group of people get close enough to say, "Hello, I’m Oli, who might you be?" Oli excitedly asks the guests, who introduce themselves as Joey, Lele, Matt, Tim, Madison, and Colin.

"Well, if you want to be let back inside, you need to get me a few things: three daisies, two pink peonies, four tulips of different colors, and a blue rose. You will then need to grab a ribbon; it should be near the greenhouse.

Once you have grabbed those things for me, bring them back to this tree and I will tell you what to do next." Oli finished.

Oli gave them directions of where the greenhouse was, and with that, the group of guests set off towards the greenhouse. Oli sat down not knowing if the group were capable enough for this job.

He wanted to have faith in them, and he really does, but with all the owners that came after Eva and Oli, they’ve all been corrupted by the evil in the house.

Oli still doesn’t know when the evil in the house became evil, but he can only assume it was after his death. But Oli doesn’t have time to think about that right now because the group is here.

Oli gets up off the ground and gladly takes the flowers and the ribbon from the hands of the group. He follows the way the bouquet is supposed to look mostly from memory; he had a lot of time to memorize what the bouquet looked like.

He takes the purple silk ribbon and carefully ties a bow. "Now what?" the blonde girl Lele asks. "We test if it worked." Oli answers, "to see if what we did worked." Tim asks skeptically.

"The spell earlier I was given a paper that said if the guests that would arrive did what you just did, then the weird curse on me and Eva would lift." Oli explained, he really hopes this works Oli really wants to see his wife because apparently it’s been 100 years since Oli’s last spoken to her in person.

"Let’s try it," the brunette said. Matt Oli holds the bouquet in his hands and walks slightly behind the group just in case this doesn’t work.

He can still somehow give Eva a beautiful bouquet. Oli holds open the door so he can slide in. Surprisingly, Oli doesn’t get stopped by a glass-like force field.

Oli looks up at the stairs and sees his wife for the first time in 100 years. Eva and Oli lock eyes. Eva looks like she’s about to cry.

Eva runs towards Oli before Oli can think. Eva throws herself onto Oli, who sets down the bouquet to hug Eva back.

Soon the reunited couple break the hug. Oli picks up the bouquet and hands it to Eva, saying, "These are for you." Oli stammers Eva smiles and says, "They’re lovely, Oli." Eva laughs.

Oli and Eva, now reunited, bid their farewells and thanked the group for helping them with that. Eva and Oli disappeared, finally freed from that hell house.
