Work Text:

Floods of thoughts threatened to crowd Carsan’s mind as she willed herself to get some proper shut-eye after days of back-to-back missions and anxiety. Frustrated and accepting the fact that she couldn’t get comfortable, Carsan forced herself to get up to make herself a cup of magnolia tea.

“This is just lovely, isn’t it?” Carsan mumbled to herself, angrily. If there was one time Carsan hated more than the mistreatment of the environment and disrespect of individuality, it’s intrusive thoughts taking over her sleep schedule.

As she walked into the decent-sized kitchen in her apartment, Carsan set the kitchen lights to a low setting, and begin to prepare her tea. The light pittar-patter of rain on the windowpanes eased some Carsan’s tensions, but it wasn’t enough. Lost in her thoughts, Carsan hadn’t noticed the light blue pair of arms wrapped around her waist.

Stiffling a yawn, Tesjay gently nuzzled Carsan’s back. “Are you alright, love?” Tesjay asked.

“I’m fine, Tes. Just can’t sleep. Considering that you’re not a night owl, why are you up?” Carsan queried, carefully wiggling out of Tesjay’s grasp.

“I heard your footsteps,” Tesjay replied. “You know, for someone that is verbally quiet most of the time, you’re not exactly stealthy.”

“This is why we can’t have nice things. We either call each other out for who-knows-what or we are both working together with our last brain cells,” Carsan jokingly stated as she set the microwave timer for a minute and a half. “There’s no in between.”

“You may see yourself like that, but I’d beg to differ.” Taking Carsan’s hand, Tesjay led her to the table to take a seat. “I understand if you don’t want to verbally express anything that’s going on in your head, but-”

“This conversation again, Tesjay? Really?” Carsan complained. “We’ve gone over this before. I’m fine. There's nothing to worry about.”

“Oh, just be quiet and listen to me,” countered Tesjay, lightly nudging Carsan with her foot. “My point is, someday, your life is going to fly by without you noticing. It’s important that you make sure that it’s worth watching. Cherish the little things.”

Reconsidering Tesjay’s words, a small smile flashed across Carsan’s face. Shared laughs, adrenaline pumping through their veins on missions, fear of the possibility of losing each other, silent moments when enjoying each other’s company. All of which were moments shared between Carsan and Tesjay. Despite being terrible at expressing her emotions, Carsan knew that Tesjay was right, and she wouldn’t want it any other way.
