intricate rituals are not everyone's thing

Work Text:

Orihime had never really gone on a date before she and Riruka had gotten together. Sure, plenty of people had tried to ask her out in middle school and high school, but she had always been too busy— either with her studies so she could keep her grades up like her aunt wanted her to, or with saving the world alongside Ichigo and the rest of their friends.

It was difficult to go on dates with people who couldn’t know everything about you, too, and even though no one had told Orihime that everything she had been through had to be kept a secret, it wasn’t exactly something she felt comfortable sharing with most people. It was a lot to explain to someone who didn’t live through all of it, after all. It was hard enough trying to explain everything to Tatsuki, and the two of them had been friends for so long Orihime could hardly remember a time before that.

But now she had someone who she loved and adored who wouldn’t think it was weird if she just had to go off and do something mysterious for a week or an emergency came up that she had to rush off to help her friends with.

After all, as a Fullbringer, anything Riruka didn’t already know about the world Orihime had been pulled into alongside Ichigo and the others, she could at least understand pretty easily.

Between school and everything else, it was hard for the two of them to find time to spend together that didn’t just involve sitting on her couch watching TV until the two of them managed to fall asleep. So when they actually did have time to go out on a date, Orihime always looked forward to it, and today was no different.

The day had started out with breakfast at a cute little cafe that had opened up which served the most adorable donuts Orihime had ever seen, then had moved on to window shopping downtown, which had turned into actual shopping downtown until the two of them had arms full of bags, but even though she was having a hard time carrying everything she had bought because Riruka kept shoving clothes at her that she told her she would look cute in, Orihime was happy.

With one hand she was carrying bags, and with the other, even though she also had bags hanging from that arm, she and Riruka were holding hands.

They had just gotten off the train with the sun starting to set and bath everything in a nice golden colour, heading back to Orihime’s apartment (which in the months since they had started dating had slowly became their apartment because Riruka really didn’t have anywhere else to go after Xcution had dissolved) to sort through their purchases and collapse into bed after a long, lovely day when Orihgime spotted two of her friends.

Even though she didn’t see them as often now as she did while they were in high school together (and university left a lot less time for them to get together and hang out compared to high school), Tatsuki and Chizuru were still two of Orihime’s closest friends. So when she saw the two of them, of course the first thing she did was wave and steer herself and Riruka off course so they could go over and say hello.

Out of all of her friends, Riruka really only got along with Ichigo and Rukia (and even that had taken a while since Riruka still seemed to think she didn’t deserve to be friends with them after what Xcution had done— although it was hazard to say that for sure because of course she never said that out loud, being far too confident to say something like that even if she was thinking it), so Orihime knew she wasn’t going to be especially happy about it— without even looking over and seeing the pout on her face.

But Riruka didn’t complain much, not when it came to Orihime. Which was funny because she loved to complain to and about just about everyone else. When it came to her, though, Riruka would let her drag her just about anywhere to do just about anything and only complain a little bit— and Orihime was more than happy to let Riruka drag her around too.

“Tatsuki! Chizuru!”

“Oh hey, Orihime. You just get back from shopping?”

It was typical small talk, nothing to really write home about.

But Chizuru had been greeting Orihime pretty much the same way for years, ever since she had met her in high school, and even though everyone said it would be something she grew out of, Chizuru had more or less taken that as a personal challenge.

Because even with Orihime’s arms full of bags and while she was holding hands with Riruka, Chizuru happily stepped forward, wrapped her arms around her, and planted her face directly into her boobs.

Orihime was more than used to it, and even back when Chizuru had first started doing it, it had never really bothered her— it had always bothered Tatsuki more than anyone, but to Orihime it was just one of those quirky things Chizuru did. Some people thought she didn’t understand what it was she was trying to do, but of course she understood perfectly well; she just… Didn’t mind.

At the very least she had decided against coming up from behind her and groping her this time around.

But that didn’t mean the other two people in the group felt as casually about it as Orihime did.

“Hey!”

Tatsuki grabbed Chizuru by the back of her shirt and hauled her off Orihime like a mother cat pulling away her misbehaving kitten, which was basically the same as things had always been between the two of them— it seemed like nothing had changed since the two of them had become ‘roommates’ (a term Orihime knew all too well since she used it herself more than once for Riruka, even if doing so usually left a sour taste in her mouth).

But even though Chizuru looked like a misbehaving cat who had just gotten told off— in that she didn’t look the least bit bothered and in fact looked a little smug— Tatsuki wasn’t the only person who was bothered.

Tatsuki pulled Chizuru away too quickly for Riruka to react, but that didn’t seem like it was going to stop her from having something to say about it, if the way she dropped her packages and stepped out in front of Orihime with her hands on her hips and a severe frown on her face was anything to go by.

“Who the Hell do you think you are, touching my girlfriend like that?!”

She got her face right into Chizuru’s face with a glare that would have absolutely destroyed most people. Of course, Chizuru wasn’t the sort of person to be easily intimidated— and yet she still decided to hide behind a surprised looking Tatsuki.

Orihime didn’t really blame her; she was pretty sure that Riruka wasn’t going to take a swing at her, but she wasn’t completely sure.

Which was exactly why she laughed a bit nervously as she grabbed hold of Riruka’s hand and started pulling her away.

“W-well, nice seeing you two! We better get home now! Bye!”

She waved to Tatsuki and Chizuru as they walked away, practically dragging Riruka behind her as Riruka still glared at Chizuru from over her shoulder.

As nice of a day as it had been, it wouldn’t be a very nice way to end the day if her girlfriend got into a fist fight with one of her friends.

“You shouldn’t let her do that sort of thing, you know. You’re only going to give her ideas.”

“Hm? What was that?”

Riruka was sitting on the edge of Orihime’s bed as she sorted through the clothes she had bought and put them away, but she had been so quiet since she had walked in the room (rather than commenting on how cute Orihime would look in everything all over again, which was what she had been expecting) that Orihime knew she wanted to talk about something.

She wanted to let her talk about it on her own, so she hadn’t asked outright, but as a result she had sort of forgotten that she was there to talk about something— until that exact moment.

“That Chizuru woman!” Riruka snapped, crossing her arms and frowning hard, looking completely annoyed. “Why do you let her just grab you like that?”

“Oh, is that what this is about?” Orihime smiled at her fondly and shook her head. “Chizuru is totally harmless; I guess I’ve never really thought about it before.”

“Well, you should! And the fact that she went ahead and did that in public… Totally disgusting.”

“It’s really not a big deal. That’s the way she’s always been with me.”

“And that’s what’s so messed up about it! She’s been doing this for so long she doesn’t even realize how messed up it is, and you just keep letting her do it!”

Oh boy. Orihime knew Riruka well enough to know that when she got this worked up about something, there was no getting her to let it go.

She was probably going to have to have a talk with Chizuru, making sure she knew that—

Orihime didn’t even get to finish her train of thought when she was suddenly being yanked backwards.

She had turned away to put away the shirt she was holding and hadn’t noticed Riruka getting up, which meant that she hadn’t noticed her coming up behind her to grab her and pull her back towards the bed, where she was promptly thrown onto the bed with a little oomf.

And then Riruka was crawling on top of her, pigtails hanging down into her face, wearing a very serious look as she loomed over her.

Orihime could feel her cheeks heating up. After all, being in her bed with Riruka over her like this was…

“I don’t want to see other people touching you right in front of me like that,” Riruka said, and Orihime swallowed hard. “Maybe they need to know that you’re taken.”

She knew Riruka was the jealous type, but she had never heard her say something like that, and before she could even start to wonder what she meant by that—

Riruka basically threw herself on top of her and clamped down on her neck.

Orihime couldn’t stop herself from moaning at the feeling of Riruka’s mouth on her neck, but it was over all too fast— and it didn’t take a genius to figure out what Riruka had done and why.

When she pulled back and looked self-satisfied, a smug little grin on her face, she even said,

“There. As soon as anyone sees that, they’ll know you’re mine.”

“R-Riruka…”

Orihime whined and squirmed a little bit. Seeing Riruka getting all jealous and possessive like that, having her on top of her— what was she supposed to do except get turned on?

But Riruka, looking satisfied with the red mark she had just sucked onto Orihime’s neck, just climbed off of her like she was just planning on going about her day and leaving her there.

Orihime grabbed her by the wrist as she tried to climb off the bed, and dragged her back in with her, pulling her into a kiss.

Usually, Riruka was the forward one and Orihime was happy to just let her make all the first moves— but after something like that, if Riruka thought she was just going to walk off…

Well, then she had another thing coming.

“S-Sorry we’re late!”

Orihime felt terrible about making Ichigo and Chad wait for them after they had put aside time in their busy lives to hang out with them, especially because the two of them had just slept through the alarm Orihime had set and then had to scramble to get ready— all because they had been so exhausted by their shopping date yesterday…

And everything that had happened after the two of them had gotten home from that shopping date.

But if Ichigo and Chad were bothered by having to wait for them, they didn’t show it, which she thought was nice. Chad just waved as they came running up and patiently waited for the two of them to catch their breath.

What they did show— or at least what Ichigo showed— was confusion followed quickly by a snort of a laugh.

“I guess I know why the two of you are late,” he said.

Orihime looked at him in confusion, and Ichigo just gestured to… Well, both of them, really.

Which was when Orihime realized she hadn’t had time that morning to put on any makeup or do anything else to cover up all of the marks that Riruka had left on her…

And Riruka hadn’t done anything else to cover up the marks she had left on her in return.

Meaning the two of them were standing there with all of their hickies in plain sight for anyone to see.

Orihime immediately turned a brilliant ruby red, but Ichigo laughed and shook his head, and even Chad just chuckled a little.

“Leave it to the two of you to get into a situation like that,” he said, just as Chad was untying the scarf he was wearing to offer it to Orihime so she could cover herself up at least a little bit.

Riruka, on the other hand, didn’t seem bothered at all. If anything, she looked proud.

“See?” she said, sounding and looking very smug. “I told you it would work.”

“R-Riruka!”

As soon as she had wrapped her exposed neck in Chad’s scarf, Orihime buried her face in her hands as her girlfriend and two of her best friends laughed at her.

She was definitely going to have to tell Chizuru not to grab her in public like that anymore.
