Work Text:
It was raining.
It was raining and Connor was still inside the Car.
It had been almost fifteen minutes since Hank disappeared into the Eden Club, a direct order telling him to stay in the car, stating something about 'not too long' and saying he would just be taking a quick look.
He would have been against that choice in the first place, but Hank seemed really willing to lock him in that car if necessary.
- Obviously still upset that the android forced him to leave the house in the middle of the night and still gave him a bath with ice water as a bonus.-
Connor decided to go with the best course of action at the moment and keep the progress he'd made in his relationship with the Lieutenant, and let him investigate the location for a few minutes.
Alone.
Connor knew very well that he could have simply gotten out of the car a long time ago.
However, he still stayed.
He still complied.
For the first few minutes the android just watched the car's interior with interest, its advanced optical units, doing a quick scan of Hank's car and seeing what it found. - Unsurprisingly, there were crumbs of Chicken Feed hamburger Scattered all over the carpet.- He had also noticed the seat, Both passenger and passenger looked slightly worn around the edges, From so much use, The car must have been a little old, but still worked amazingly well for 2038.
The Android however did not fail to notice the little Hula dancer on top of the car's dashboard, Swinging her little skirt from side to side, He studying her curiously with his eyes for a few seconds, Observing the well-painted wooden surfaces of the doll, Which...although slightly peeled at the edges, was still very well cared for.
It was kind of cute.
━━━━━━━━━━━━
Over the next 20 minutes Connor began to feel restless. He continued to wait patiently in the car. Not daring to disobey the lieutenant's orders.
His hand almost slips into the pocket of his Blazer where his coin is pocketed, before he realizes it and silently resists the urge to pull it out.
The car was silent and the only sound was the soft rain that continued to fall in small amounts outside.
Soft brown eyes stared out the window.
Soft, cool drops constantly falling against the car window. Neon lights outside gave her a brief illumination of the tiny drops falling against the glass and gliding smoothly across it.
It looked almost peaceful.
Connor didn't think he ever appreciated it. Rain ever.
But something about her caught his attention.
Maybe it was simply the noise of it: It sounded so...calm and smooth, Almost like a cold, gentle melody being played for anyone who would listen, There was no other noise in the rain, it was just thousands of fat little drops falling against a hard surface and yet somehow making a peaceful sound...a quick search revealed that the sound of rain was particularly pleasant to listen to at night, humans generally appreciated the calming sound to help them relax and sleep.
Interesting.
Connor contemplated this information for a few seconds, not really knowing what to make of it.
Before he knew it, his eyes had fluttered closed.
He didn't know what he was doing though, simply closing his eyes as he listened to the constant sound of rain falling on the roof of Hank's car, He P̶e̶n̶s̶or that he would be pulled back into the Zen Garden - Make another report to Cyberlife, Or report something to Amanda. - But that never happened.
He just stood there.
Rigid posture and closed eyes.
The rain continued to fall.
His brow furrowed slightly, his LED turning yellow for a moment as his auditory processors picked up every noise outside.
Rain Falling against the pavement.
Falling on the asphalt.
Falling onto the roof of the car.
Falling on the Window.
It seemed to fall onto some plastic surface, probably into a nearby Dumpster.
And yet, everything felt so peaceful.
For a second, it almost reminded him of the Zen Garden.
Almost.
He... thinks he likes
Connor wonders if Hank liked the rain.
His eyes opened slowly and somehow his body seemed more relaxed, posture less tense and shoulders relaxed... His LED was idling lazily in a pleasant shade of blue.
^^^Software instability.
━━━━━━━━━━━━
His processors checked her internal clock, her eyes widening in surprise as she realized she'd been at this for almost 30 minutes.
Couple that with the other 30 minutes that Hank had gotten out of the car and left Connor alone with his thoughts.
An hour had passed and Hank still hadn't returned.
The android faced the entrance of the club, worried, He knew he should have invaded at that point, He should have known that Hank might need help, What if something happened to him and Connor wasn't willing to help him?.
Although before he wanted to be able to do anything, his eyes caught the movement of the automatic front door opening and the old lieutenant slowly leaving the establishment.
The android's stress levels dropped rapidly.
The lieutenant approached the car and without even looking at the android he quickly walked around the car to the passenger side.
A brief scan revealed some minor bruises on the man's arms and a slight bruise on his back, Although nothing serious, there were also clear signs of fatigue and weariness.- The lieutenant got involved in a chase and ended up in a fight?.-
His brown eyes stared at the older one's face — Which in turn would have his blue eyes fluttering in complete emptiness.—
His body language however pointed to mild fatigue and...
Discomfort?.
Uh.
Connor opened his mouth, about to ask the older man if he was feeling all right, but before anything could come out of his mouth, the lieutenant cut him off.
"I'm fine, Connor, don't bother asking."
His tone of voice sounded almost stiff...
Strangely there was no real warmth behind the words.
Connor frowned, though he just closed his mouth with an auditory click and shook his head, quickly moving on to the main question.
(Doyouliketherainlieutenant?)
''And the deviants?''
he questions vaguely, keeping his voice as low and even as ever, both out of his own programming and so as not to further worsen the headache of the man beside him.
A moment of silence ensued inside the car again, as if the man was choosing his words carefully.
(Connorcouldstillheartherain)
''They...Uh...They ran away.''
Hank admitted, Simply.
Connor's brown eyes widened softly.
- "They?"-
Connor questioned, looking mildly alarmed for a second.
"Uh...yes, there were two girls."
Hank simply replied, before averting his gaze to the road in front of him.
Connor almost wanted to get out of the car to look for her. He shouldn't have left Hank alone. He should have followed him and then maybe managed to capture the deviants.
What if something had happened to Hank while he was in the car?
He could have taken them.
Seeming to sense the android's internal struggle, Hank turned to look at him worriedly before the android turned to look at him.
Large doe eyes stared back at him.
"I'm sorry, Lieutenant, I shouldn't
to have let him in and investigate alone, If I had been there I would have been able to contain the deviants, and they would not have escaped, I'm sorry, It won't happen again."
Connor said, not looking away from the blue irises of the older man beside him.
For a moment the silence stretched and Connor thought he had said something wrong, before the man shook his head and smiled weakly.
" Alright... I have their profile, We'll have other chances, Don't worry."
That's what Hank said before he patted her shoulder a little and turned his eyes back to the road, focusing somewhere Connor couldn't see a damn thing in the dim night.
"Let's go, yes?, This club gave me headaches."
With one last look, Connor turned the key and stepped on the gas, slowly pulling away from the club.
The rain continued to fall that night.
