Chapter Text
Third POV
Days at the protocol went something like this: 5am wake up, run with Barry the tassie tiger, breakfast, weights training with Breach and Astra, lunch, downtime/tending to the greenhouse, tea with Sage, Dinner and repeat.
This is how it had always been until today.. Skye was chatting to Breach about their latest missions after their training. Breach and Skye had been instant friends because of their loud and out there personalities. They had similar interests which made them good friends and different interests, which made their conversations more interesting. As they walked into the locker area. they were greeted by Sage reading her book. The two initiators acknowledged the healer before putting their stuff away. As Skye opened her locker, a note fell out and onto the floor. Skye look down confused before picking it up. It was a light pink envelope with a small heart keeping it closed. Her name was neatly spelled out on the front with cursive letters.
Skye just stared at it confused. By this point, Breach had wondered over to see why the nature radiant had gone so quiet. Peering over her shoulder, he let out a hearty laugh.
"Ayy Skye, looks like you have an admirer. Never thought that would happen.. no offense!" Skye turned back to her friend.
"None taken Breach mate, im just confused." carefully, Skye carefully opened the envelope. opening the paper inside, there was a note.
To the girl who stole my heart...
You make me smile every day, your nature makes me see more in life
Your emerald green eyes shine like the sun when you are free
You laugh like no one cares
You smile like there is everything and then nothing to smile about
Thank you for making me happier, but you never knew
Signed, secret admirer
Skye had to read over it a few times to make sure she was seeing those words. 'Someone likes me?' she thought. She put the letter down on one of the shelves in the locker before cleaning up herself. before she closed her locker for the day, she grabbed the note and stashed it in her pocket before Breach or Sage saw. Picking up her bag, she turned her attention back to Breach who was chatting away with Sage. She waved to both of them before leaving.
Strolling down the hall, she kept on thinking about the note she had received. She was beyond confused and.. happy? It had been years since anyone had shown even a little bit of romantic interest in her. Lots of guys never liked her because of how much stronger she was compared to them. Her parents always said that they were jealous, which she believed, but deep down, she wished someone truly did love her for her.
She had been so distracted, she didn't notice she had auto piloted herself back to her room. Pulling out her key card, she scanned herself into her room. Her room was covered in pot plants and every kind she could fit in without violating OHS. Barry was lying down on his mat on the floor and her hawko was nested on his hanging stick. Putting down her bag, she grabbed some things to have a shower with.
*15 mins later*
Skye walked out of her mini bathroom clean and dressed better. Barry stood up from his mat and walked over to his creator, nuzzling her leg. Skye let out a small laugh as she petted her tiger.
"Aww did you miss me? You know you missed meeee" Barry was soaking up all the affection Skye was offering. Skye then stood up, remembering she didn't have lunch yet. Beckoning her animals, Hawko landed on her shoulder while Barry followed her. She closed her door and shoved her key card into one of her pants pockets. Walking down the hall, she was met with Astra also walking to the dining hall. The two made small talk about what they had been up to. Skye was debating in her head whether to tell Astra about the note since she knows a lot love and how relationships work, but she opted not to since she had a habit to telling secrets to people Aka Reyna and Sage.
They arrived at the dining hall in time for dinner. Jett had insisted on cooking a traditional Korean meal, with Reyna helping her. The recon mission had just come back and were exhausted. The mission consisted of Yoru, Sova, Cypher, Viper and Killjoy. The five of them were writing down their debrief surrounding a table with Sage helping them. Skye went and sat down with Breach and Harbour. The two seemed engrossed in their conversation about how many crimes they committed. Skye was zoning into the conversation, but kept on thinking about the note. She was trying to figure out who had written it to her.
"Lunch is ready carinos!" Reyna's voice broke her trance and to quickly look over at the kitchen door. Jett was bringing out steaming trays of food and cooling drinks. Agents began lining up to receive food from the two cooks. As she was waiting, she ended up in conversation with Sage. She went to afternoon tea with Sage later, so she would tell her then.
She thanked Jett for the food before sitting back down where she was. The duellists (excluding Yoru) all decided to watch an episode of friends while they ate lunch. She ended up conversating with harbour about different kinds of plants and how much water they need (pun intended).
"Ah Skye, you are such a good friend. Though I do wonder, do you ever get lonely?" Skye paused eating before processing what he said. She slightly shaked her head.
"Harbour mate, I appreciate your concern, but I am quite fine off by myself. Besides between plants and my wooden creatures, im pretty occupied. Missions also fill a lot of my time." harbour nodded his head in contentment before continuing his conversation with breach. As Skye listened in, she didn't realise that someone had heard that conversation...
*Few hours later*
Skye had ended up in Sage's room, talking to her over tea. Skye didn't like talking openly about her feelings, so it was nice to be able to confide in someone with these kinds of issues. Sage and Skye have had similar experiences with their radiant abilities and how they were treated by others. Skye sighed and put down her tea cup.
"Sage, i need help with something.." Sage raised her eyebrow slightly, sitting up a little bit more. "What's wrong Skye?" Skye pulled the note out of her pocket and showed Sage. Sage carefully studied the note. Skye kept on fiddling her gloves, taking glances between Sage and her gloves. Sage handed the note back to Skye before letting out a short breath.
"It seems like a very heart felt note, so they must care a lot. They have put time and effort into writing this. Maybe wait and see if they send more. Through more notes, itll be easier to identify who wrote this. There are a lot of people in the protocol and we all have our secrets."
Skye nooded her head slowly and put the note away. She looked back up at Sage and relaxed slightly.
"Thanks Sage for your help. It means a lot." Sage nodded her head. "You are always welcome Skye." Skye stood up from where she was and walked towards the door. Opening it, she turned her head towards Sage again and said her goodbyes.
Walking down the hall, she smiled slightly and relaxed, putting her hands in her pocket. Tomorrow was another day, and another day closer to finding out who wrote the note...
