Tommy woke up to his door creaking open softly. He groaned and buried his head in his blankets. Someone’s hand landed in his hair, gently brushing it away from his eyes.
“Hey, sunshine,” Wilbur whispered.
Tommy opened his eyes and glared up at his big brother. “Fu’ you.” Wilbur cooed softly. Tommy grumbled in response. That was not the appropriate reaction.
“Trust me, sweetheart, you’ll love it,” Wilbur told him. Tommy raised his head slightly.
“Love what?” he asked.
Wilbur smiled gently. “I’ll show you. C’mon.”
Wilbur stood up and left. That’s nice, now he was gone and Tommy could sleep in peace. Or so he thought, but Tommy could not get this mystery thing Wilbur wanted to show him out of his mind. Tommy groaned and stood up. He left his room. Wilbur waited outside with a smirk, wearing his combat boots and trench coat. He held Tommy’s sneakers in one hand and Tommy’s bright red coat in the other.
“Put these on,” Wilbur handed him the shoes and coat.
“Why,” Tommy grumbled as he pushed his arms through the coat sleeves. Wilbur bent down to tie his laces.
“Because,” Wilbur answered, “It’s outside.”
“What’s outside?” Tommy pried. Wilbur chuckled slightly.
“The surprise. Now, put this on,” Wilbur offered him a blindfold.
“What, it’s not fuckin’ dark enough?” Tommy snapped as he reached out for the blindfold. Wilbur helped to tie it on.
“No, it’s not,” Wilbur replied. It was the middle of the night, so if Tommy thought it was hard to see before, he literally couldn’t see a single thing. He felt Wilbur slip his into Tommy’s, and in response Tommy grabbed onto Wilbur’s whole arm. Wilbur let out a startled laugh.
“Shut the fuck up, bitch,” Tommy grumbled. “I can’t see shit.” Wilbur chuckled slightly, but guided Tommy down the hall and down the stairs. Well, it was more like a piggyback down the stairs, but who cares, really?
Tommy felt a blast of cool air on his face as Wilbur opened the door outside. Wilbur guided him away from the house, off to god knows where.
When they stopped, Wilbur reached his hands up and untied Tommy’s blindfold. They were in a field, their house a ways away, but still within eyesight.
“Look up,” Wilbur whispered. Tommy did so and couldn’t stop the gasp that left him.
The stars sparkled far above, spread out across the night sky. There were barely any clouds to be seen, and the crescent moon hung in the center of it all.
Tommy leaned back into Wilbur.
“It’s beautiful, isn’t it, starlight?”
“Yeah. Yeah, it’s awesome.” Tommy stretched his hand up, as if to touch the sky. Wilbur grabbed him around the middle and hoisted him up.
Tommy shrieked out a laugh of surprise. “Lemme down, prick!”
Wilbur lowered him down, laughing. The moment Tommy hit the ground, he sprinted off. Wilbur let out a shout of surprise, and sprinted after him. Naturally, Wilbur caught up quickly, due to the fact he was almost 6’3 and Tommy was, well, about four feet.
Wilbur tackled Tommy to the ground when he caught up, and the two rolled across the ground in a pile of limbs and laughter.
Tommy stared up at the stars again, snuggling into Wilbur’s side. “I love you, Wilby.”
Wilbur pressed a kiss to his head. “I love you too, Toms.”
