Work Text:

“Eight!”

Five. It was Five. He was screaming my name and I would have turned to look at him but I was too fixated on the bullet wound in my lower abdomen. It was fascinating because for the first time in a long while, it wasn’t someone else’s blood spilled all over my hands.

“Eight!”

Oh there he was again. He sounded closer and clearer this time. And as the world thinned in my vision, the realization hit me. This is how I was going to die? I laughed, I was a monster; I deserved to go out in the most painful and agonizing ways possible. Instead, I was receiving mercy. Utter and complete mercy.

“Eight!”

He sounded farer this time. Odd. Still, he sounded worry and urgent, even at a great distance. Another realization hit me that moment. Had anyone ever thanked him? I mean he went through all the trouble of getting back here to us, to me, to save our asses. He spent day and night searching for the key to our safety but never his own. I kinda wanted to stay alive to tell him that he had done good, to thank him. But, eh, I could always get Klaus to tell him for me. And that undone end now tied up made me realize

I was okay with my fate.

As my body hit the dirt and dust formed around me. My eyes looked up at the sun for a moment, and a shadow started to block it with their body. It looked like mom, she really was this family’s angel. But the face morphed from a genuine smile to a dark and twisted one. And before I knew it, the Handler was standing over me. Smiling and laughing, watching the life leave my eyes and as I felt my body start to stop I

I woke up.

I woke up shaken and nervous, but quietly overall. I looked around the room to see everyone there safe and sound. Luther and Diego on a couch we had pushed into the room, fighting over the blanket, even in their sleep. Allison and Viktor on the other pushed in couch, sleepy soundly next to one another. And then there was Klaus on the floor, playing patty cake with what I assumed was Ben’s ghost. I smiled at the real life daydream until something grabbed my arm, I turned back quickly with a flinch.

“You alright?”

Five. It was Five again. He had shared the bed with me and apparently had been woken by my small nightmare.

“Yeah, all good.”

I said, probably not in a reassuring manner but still.

“Oh okay…”

He trailed off while about to adjust back to his spot, I hugged him. I could feel the shocked freeze so I spoke, hoping to relive the tension in him.

“Thank you. Thank you for saving us.”

He relaxed and hugged me back.

“Anytime.”
