Work Text:
“Hurry up, Chibi!”
“I told you to stop calling me that, asshole!”
Bickering and shallow teasing were common during double black missions, this continued outside of work as well.
The full moon late that night was reminiscent of a milk candy. Moonbeams illuminated the beach below them, littered with seaweed clumps and litter.
Two pairs of footprints danced across the sand. Chuuya chased after Dazai as he bolted towards the calm waves.
“You dumbass! Wait up!” Chuuya called, attempting to hop out of his shoes while still running after the executive. He tripped over an empty bottle, managing to kick up a considerable amount of sand. He continued to sprint until he had caught up with Dazai, who had begun to remove his shoes and coat as well.
“Don’t” he paused to regain breath, “Don’t just take off like that.””
Dazai turned to face his partner, smiling warmly. It was quite a sight, Chuuya’s hair a windswept mess, sand stuck to his feet and pant legs. Dazai then realized he too was covered in sand, and had a large piece of seaweed snaked around his ankle.
“We look like fucking idiots,” he giggled, kicking the plant away.
“Oh, shut up.” Chuuya pushed his shoulder playfully, earning a push back from his partner. This continued back and fourth, until Chuuya’s shove caused Dazai to fall on his ass in the shallow water.
“How mean, Chibi!” He said dramatically, crossing his arms in an animated manner and turning away from him. He giggled at his own action.
With a sigh and an eye roll, Chuuya let out a hand to bring him back up, only to be met with a tug leading him stomach down into the sand.
“SHIT!” He screeched, scrambling up to his knees to a cackling Dazai.
“Im sorry I’m sorry.” He said breathlessly through laughs. Chuuya felt a slight smile creep up his lips.
The boys got up without bothering to tidy themselves, Dazai took Chuuya by the hand and lead him deeper into the waves. It was a stupid idea, really. Stomping though the bone chilling water while fully clothed. They didn’t care anymore. They splashed and kicked water at each other, laughing heartily and shielding their eyes from the salty spray. They bobbed up and down in the sea, swimming around haphazardly. Waves crashed over their heads, cradling them in quiet calm for a few breathless moments.
Later that night, two figures could be seen traipsing down the seaside streets, clothes dripping and leaving telltale puddles behind them. Cradling piles of sandy jackets and shoes. Their hushed speech and laughter echoed through the night, resonating throughout the hollow streets leading to the motel at which they stayed.
