Work Text:
It was a drastic decision, but it was also the most logical one according to their calculations. After all- despite not possessing human emotions- they, too, have come to care for Paldea and their the professor's son, Arven. They don't mind this decision one bit if it means keeping him safe and sound.
At first, the AI wanted to use the time machine for them to be brought to the past- the thing that fascinates the late professor the most, and gain the freedom they desired and envied as they watched the children's journey. This way, the time machine will be deactivated without resorting to said drastic decision; however, all this time, there was one more protocol to ensure the time machine's safety. As it turns out, the time machine was programmed to deny the AI if the AI was the supposed subject for transportation- hence, the drastic decision of self-destruction in hopes of permanently closing the damned machine.
When they uttered the words 'I love you' to their the professor's son, the AI wasn't sure if they were truly the ones speaking, or was it Sada somehow manifesting in them. (Which is unlikely, but still has a 0.012% chance of occurring if a ghost pokemon was involved. However, they did not sense any paranormal activity, therefore proving the previous statement false.) Either way, they meant their words well- despite not fully understanding what love is.
Love is a concept they struggle to comprehend, but they believe that they are capable of it. Love is an emotion they struggle to feel, but after witnessing their predecessor's memories of her son...
For all it was worth, unable to leave the laboratory at all along with a nation-wide crisis in the making, they are glad that it came to down to this. Even if it means their destruction.
It allowed them to say the words they've always wanted to say the moment their artificial mind was installed with memories of Arven.
