Work Text:

Sarah hummed as she entered the floating restaurant. Her damp red ponytail and the long white puffy feather sticking out of it swayed softly from her excited gait.

Ever since she’d heard of the Baratie, she’s wanted to go. She had heard that they had the best chefs in all the blues, and was even run by the amazing chef Red leg Zeff.

She, of course, could’ve happened upon this place a better way. Seeing as her mode of transportation is now at the bottom of the ocean.

But! She was never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, especially one that smelled so divine!

She should’ve known that that tiny boat the asshole of a salesman had given her was too cheap, it barely lasted a week before it had crapped out on her and dumped her in the middle of the ocean. Luckily, close enough to this heavenly restaurant to swim easily enough.

Man… he is not gonna be happy that he has to come to retrieve her… again.

But! He might not be too upset! Seeing as this place could possibly be an amazing date spot!

They hadn’t had a proper date in ages.

With that thought in mind, Sarah happily made her way to one of the nice tables and took a seat. She’d have to see if this place’s owner would let her use their den-den, he’d probably like to hear from her sooner rather than later.

She wasn’t alone long before a young blonde man started twirling towards her?

“Hello, madam! My name is Sanji, I’m the Sous Chef of this establishment, and ill be your server on this fine evening!” the man- Sanji, swooned. Taking her hand in his while offering her a red rose. The man was wearing a black suit with a blue striped button up, and had one eye visible with an eyebrow that twirled at the end while the other was covered by his blonde bangs. He was also smoking a cigarette, that despite the twirling, was still lit.

Sarah smiled- albeit nervously- at the young man, not quite used to such- extravagant behavior.

“Uh- thank you?” Sarah said as she took the rose out of the young man’s hand, placing it on the table in front of her.

Sanji smiled before straightening up, “now, what can I get a fine lady like you on this beautiful afternoon?” he asked, gesturing towards the menu in front of her.

Sarah turned towards the laminated item, picked it up, and looked inside.

Wow… this all looked so good!

“I can’t even decide! This all looks so amazing!” she turned towards the blonde, an excited grin on her face. “Make me whatever you recommend! I trust your judgment!”

Sanji’s eyes widened, “of course, beautiful maiden! But first, I need to make sure, are you allergic to anything and are there any foods you don’t like?”

Sarah grinned, “Nope to both! But wait- can you lend me a Den-den? I need to contact my husband to let him know I’m alright.”

Sanji bowed, “Yes Ma’am! I will get right to it! I will make you a meal fit for a queen! And bring you our best Den-den in the whole restaurant!” with that, he took off. Presumably to where the kitchen is located. Leaving a gaping Sarah behind.

“A queen? The best Den-den?” she asked herself, before shaking it off with a laugh. Oh well, hopefully, the Den-den Sanji gets her will be good enough to reach him, if he’s back at home then she has no chance, but he did say that he’ll be heading to the east blue a month after her, and it sure has been long past that point, so hopefully he’s close enough for it to not be a waste of time.

She didn’t have to wait long, before a steaming plate of mouth-watering goodness was placed in front of her, along with a snoozing Den-den and a glass of wine. Which she kindly pushed away, instead taking the glass of water next to it.

She is not allowed any alcohol, she’s a horrible lightweight, she learned that the hard way.

Thank you, Red Hair.

She kindly thanked the grinning chef, before digging in. practically melting as the food hit her tongue.

This was delicious! This was definitely where she was having her date! Too bad Penguin couldn’t be here, her favorite little fur buddy that her husband had begrudgingly let her keep, that little murder monkey would have loved this food!

The thought of the monkey snapped her out of her food-induced haze. Right! She had to call him!

Looking around to make sure no one could accidentally eavesdrop. She grabbed the Den-den, lifting the receiver she kindly woke up the sleeping creature before typing in the number she knew by heart.

The Den-den rang for a few moments, and Sarah couldn’t help but worry that he was out of range, stomach twisting in an uncomfortable knot.

It’s not that she needed him to come to get her, she could find her way back just fine on her own, it’s just- she’s really looking forward to this date that he isn’t even aware of but will definitely agree to… maybe.

Just as she was about to put the receiver back, effectively ending her efforts, a low but cutting voice rang through the line.

Who is this?’

The face on the Den-den had its piercing eyes narrowed in suspicion, and Sarah couldn’t help but grin brightly.

“Hawky!” she cheered, relieved he was in range.

She watched as the once guarded look melted into something softer, if not a little confused.

Sarah? What happened to your Den-den?’ he questioned. Sarah’s smile turned sheepish.

“Well-” his eyes narrowed again, but not unkindly- never unkindly. “You see-”

Love… what happened…?’ his voice was understandably suspicious, and she chuckled nervously, scratching the back of her head.

“Ok so- don’t get mad- but, I might have crashed my boat got a new boat, and then lost that one too?” her voice raised a pitch as she finished that sentence.

A sigh was all she heard on the other end, as his eyes closed. Making her wince again.

“It wasn’t my fault! I promise! It was some stupid big shot pirates headed to the grand line, I- apparently- was in his way- which was stupid cause the jerks ship was huge and mine was very much not- and so he rammed right into it! Long story short, my ship was too damaged to fix so I had to buy a new one- which I think I got scammed? I don’t know, it was kinda shitty. And my new ship only lasted like- a week, before crapping out and leaving me swimming, again! But luckily I wasn’t too far from where I’m at now!” she finished, slightly winded from her long rant, all while her husband waited patiently- used to her spontaneous rants-, eyes narrowing dangerously as she continued.

And you are alright?’ she could hear the worry in his voice, the restrained anger and silent promise. All making her smile kindly at the Den-den.

“Yes, I’m all good, promise,” she swore, which wasn’t even a lie- not really- she was only slightly banged up from the initial crash.

Her husband hummed on the other line, ‘Those pirates, did you catch their name? Or maybe even their flag?’

She, again, smiled kindly. “Ya, I think they were the, uh, what was it again? The krige pirates I think?”

Hawky’s look turned contemplative on the other line, ‘ Don Kreig pirates?’ he questioned.

She clapped her hands in her excitement, earning many sideways looks from the sudden noise, to which she just smiled apologetically. “Yes! That’s exactly what the gold dude said!” she cheered.

Her husband, again, hummed. ‘Ahh, yes. I believe I ran into them before I had entered the east blue. They had woken me- quite rudely- so i had cut them down. He did have an impressive fleet, I will admit, but his strength was severely lacking.’ he paused for a moment, voice dropping slightly. ‘I now wish I had done more.’

She hummed thoughtfully, before shrugging. “Oh well, doesn’t really matter anymore. If they were in the grand line i doubt we’ll be seeing more of them anytime soon.”

The Den-den nodded slowly, ‘i do believe you are right.’ he murmured, ‘where are you right now? You said you had found a place?’

Her face brightened at that, an excited grin overtaking her features. “Hawky you won’t believe it! I had found the legendary Baratie! Oh- and their food is so good! You’ll love it! I was even thinking we could have a date when you get here! If you’re not too tired, of course. But! Even the customer service is nice, the young man who served me even gave me a rose!”

His piercing eyes narrowed dangerously at the last part, making her grin cheekily. He was too easy sometimes. ‘Hmm, really? I guess I have no choice then, we’ll have a date when I arrive. It does sound rather nice, I’ve heard some good rumors of that restaurant.’

“Yay! I can’t wait!” she cheered. The Den-den’s lip quirked up, expression soft and warm. Making her smile back at it happily, warmth filling her heart.

Be safe until i arrive, I won’t be long, five days at most.’

She nodded, “Okie dokie! Love you.”

The uptick on the den dens lips got slightly larger, almost big enough to be called a smile, as her husband responded with a quiet but undeniably fond ‘Love you too.’ before ending the line. Leaving Sarah in the quiet sound of utensils clinking on ceramic plates and quiet idle conversations.

She sighed, slowly putting the receiver back onto the snail, giving the snoozy creature a pat and a piece of lettuce before leaning back. A small smile permanently on her features.

Sanji at some point had come to collect her Den-den and refill her water before returning to his work, but not without many compliments thrown her way.

She was snapped out of her happy little bubble when the whole restaurant rocked with a loud bang. Making her straighten up on reflex.

She eyed the other occupants of the establishment, noting how they all seemed equally as alarmed before her attention was soon brought to a burly man in a chef’s coat walking out of the kitchen.

“Nobody panic, it was just a minor accident, nothing to worry about folks, go back to eating.”

Deciding not to put too much thought into it, Sarah shrugged. If the cooks didn’t think there was anything to worry about, then there was no point in her stressing over it.

With that thought in mind, she turned back to her plate and continued eating.

She wasn’t left long before murmurs started spreading through the crowd, all pointed toward a man and a woman who had just entered.

Sarah eyed them curiously, not quite understanding the excitement. Who in the hell was Fullbody? And why was he such a big deal?

Based on what everyone was saying, he was a marine- lieutenant at that, but that still didn’t explain why he was such a big deal.

She’s seen plenty of lieutenants in the new world! And in the grand line!

Maybe it was a blue thing? Maybe even an east blue thing?

She shrugged, wasn’t her problem, as long as the dude didn’t recognize her, she’d be fine.

She idly noted that the young man- the sous chef if she remembered correctly, Sanji had gone to attend the bigshot, before fully turning back towards her delicious food.

“Waiter! Hey!”

Huh? Curiously, Sarah looked up, again, and watched, confused, as the marine called for Sanji.

When Sanji walked over, she couldn’t tell what was being said until Fullbody slammed his hand on the table and pointed to his food heatedly.

Sarah tilted her head curiously, putting her elbow on the table and resting her chin on her open palm. Eager for some entertainment now that it’s presented itself.

“Hey! There’s a bug in my soup, is that the kind of food you serve here!? Or is this just for me!” the man yelled, and Sarah’s eyes widened, before narrowing confused.

Turning towards her own plate with a critical eye. Yup, no bugs. And a quick look around the restaurant showed the same, no one seemed to have any little creepy crawlies in their food.

“Huh? Bug? I’m sorry sir, I don’t know. It looks like he’s floating, then again he could be drowning, it’s hard to say really.” snickers and giggles rang through the restaurant, Sarah included.

Even if her husband doesn’t like this place, she sure knows someone who would love it. Even if it’s a little too fancy for him and his crew’s taste, but, she’s sure they wouldn’t care much if this was the type of show they could see.

She was jolted out of her musings when the marine abruptly stood from his seat, raising his closed fist with a cry of “Don’t you mess with me, waiter!” before slamming it into the nice table, effectively snapping it in two.

Oh ya, they would love this.

Sanji’s face darkened as he knelt down on the floor, placing his hand into the now-ruined puddle of soup on the ground. Saying something too quiet for her to hear.

Suddenly, the marine stomped on it, making Sarah wince in sympathy.

“Can’t you see that you’re biting off more than you can chew!?” the marine growled, twisting his foot on the chef’s hand. “Im the customer here! Don’t you see!? I pay you!” he yelled.

The woman who had accompanied him ran up to his arm, pleading for him to stop, to calm down, only for her to be roughly shoved back, landing hard on the cold floor.

The next moment happened faster than Sarah could blink, and suddenly, Fullbody was bloody and beaten being held off the ground by Sanji’s hand.

Wow, that’s impressive. She’s seen cooler, obviously, but that was still impressive. Especially for the east blue.

Sarah distantly noted the front door opening, but ultimately ignored it, too entranced by the fight currently happening- well, more like beating currently happening.

A big burly man came stomping out from the back, yelling at Sanji about customers or something, and soon getting into an argument with the heated blonde.

Sanji dropped the Marine, turning to face his- who Sarah believes- fellow chef.

The marine on the floor made a loud threat to the restaurant, making Sanji lunge for him. Only to be held back by multiple more cooks.

Damn, she really likes this place.

Although she hopes her husband will be okay with it, he does have a problem with disrespect after all, and can come off as rude to anyone who doesn’t know him… although she doubts they’ll be picking fights with him of all people, so she’s sure they’ll be fine.

…hopefully.

A loud crash made Sarah almost jump out of her skin, and she watched as two figures fell through the roof.

Huh… this is turning more interesting than Red-hairs famous parties that he liked to throw. And those can get destructive.

Two figures jumped up and started arguing, one more recognizable than the other. And she beamed when she realized who had just arrived.

The older man had a long chef’s hat on top of blonde hair, along with a long braided mustache and a peg leg. Red leg Zeff in the flesh!

So cool!

The other figure, much smaller and younger, no older than 20, had a red shirt and blue shorts along with a straw-... wait, she knew that hat. She beamed even more, so that’s who he had given it to.

That hat was unmistakable, she even recognized her own stitching lining a cut she had sewn up for the previous owner, now much more warn down.

Even the ribbon was the same! Which was a shock after ten years.

She was brought out of her thoughts again when a marine came running into the now open door, yelling about an escaped pirate or something. at that point, Sarah had lost interest and tuned it out, they’ll figure it out.

She wanted to meet Zeff and the kid with the straw hat. She wants to know what kind of people they are.

But, with how things are progressing, she’s probably just going to have to wait and continue eating her food, it would be a waste after all!

The gunshot that rang through the restaurant made her jump, and she cast the shooter a glance, before turning back toward her food.

Nope, not her problem. Hawky told her to be careful, so that’s exactly what she’s going to do.

And that means not involving herself in strangers’ dangerous business.

…no matter how interesting that business is.

She did however note the pirate getting kicked out, but didn’t put much thought into it. like she had thought, they had it figured out.

A shadow cast over her, making her look up confused. Only to pause when she saw three people standing next to her table, one young woman and two young men. The woman had orange hair and a kind smile, while one man had green hair, three swords, and a scowl and the other man had a nervous smile and a long nose.

She smiled back at the young woman who had stepped forward.

“Excuse me, I don’t mean to bother you, but is there any way we can share this table? Everywhere else seems to be taken or- err… broken.” the girl had a kind voice, making Sarah smile wider, noting the extra chairs sitting around her table collecting dust.

“Yeah! Sure! Go ahead!” she replied, cheerfully grinning at them.

All three of them quickly took a seat, although the green-haired swordsman was a little reluctant, but a firm glare from the orange-haired lady and he sat down.

“Thank you! I’m Nami, the coward next to me is Ussop, and that brute over there is Zoro.” the girl- Nami introduced.

And Sarah nodded, noting the names for later. “My name’s Sarah! It’s nice to meet you three!”

“L-likewise! “ Ussop stuttered, before puffing up his chest in an obviously fake bravado.

Sarah quickly learned that those three were pirates, sailing under the kid with the straw hat. Luffy, they said his name was. And they had also told her that the crashing from earlier was Luffy blocking a cannonball and accidentally sending it flying into the restaurant, and now he was trying to work off the debt.

When Luffy finally joined them, they became a much louder bunch, laughing and messing with each other. Easily gathering the eyes of everyone around.

Sarah couldn’t help but relax in the atmosphere, even when Sanji showed up again to swoon over her and Nami and give the younger woman a red rose like hers.

When Zeff showed up and started arguing with Sanji, telling him to become a pirate, she had to jump out of her chair and grab her plate as the young blonde was thrown into their table.

Although, luckily when Zeff left, Sanji was able to fix the table and he even gave her and Nami fruit cups! And the best part! Nami had managed to get her and Sarah’s food free!

Although the men still had to pay. And after that, Sanji essentially dragged Luffy off to continue working.

This was honestly the most she’d laughed in a while, her cheeks were aching from how hard she was grinning. These pirates were amazing!

She was at the restaurant four days before things started picking up again.

She had managed to convince the owner to lend her a spare room as long as she paid, so she was having a pretty nice time.

The straw hats had kept her company most of the time, easily chasing off any boredom she might have.

And she even gained the captain’s favor when she asked him about his hat and told him she knew the man who had given it to him. The boy was ecstatic about that, constantly asking her questions about the red-haired man.

The morning was foggy while she sat and happily ate her lunch, listening to the crowd around them.

She had tried many of the food items on the menu and even asked Sanji about the wine.

She knew for a fact now that her husband was going to love this place, if not for the restaurant itself, then for the alcohol they serve. They even had one of his favorite brands! Which she knows will most likely be the thing that seals the deal with him.

She turned her head towards the people around her when she heard glass break. Before people started fearfully murmuring between each other.

Confused, Sarah turned towards her closest neighbor, tapping them on the shoulder to get their attention.

The man she had tapped almost jumped out of his skin, before sighing in relief when he saw her.

She smiled kindly. “What’s going on? Why’s everyone freaking out?”

The man paled and stared at her as if she had lost her marbles, which- rude.

“It’s pirates! The Don Krieg pirates!” the man fearfully snapped, whipping his head back towards the window to watch the ship approach through the fog. “He’s the ruler of the east blue! Practically unbeatable!” he whimpered, voice wavering.

Sarah froze.

…uh oh. That’s not good.

She silently wished for the stupid pirates to be gone by tomorrow. If he showed up and they were there? After what she had told him?

Those dumbasses are as good as dead!

She turned her head and peered out the window, watching with her bottom lip being chewed on between her teeth.

It’s not that she’s worried about the pirates or anything, or even her husband! She just didn’t want this to ruin the date she had planned! It was going to be so nice!

She huffed under her breath and took a seat back at her table. well, she might as well just sit, wait, and hope.

When the Krieg pirate ship pulled close enough for the fog to no longer be able to block it, Sarah could see the extent of damage done to it by her husband, and she couldn’t help but be silently surprised.

He must have been in a really good mood when the Krieg pirates crossed him, their ship is still sailing after all!

Although it doesn’t look like it will be for long, it looks like a weak gust of wind could send it toppling lie a Jenga tower.

Everyone watched with bated breath as Don Krieg slowly made his way to the main entrance. His shadowed figure made an almost eerie shadow in the window.

When Krieg finally made it to the door, he slowly let it creek open, and Sarah could see many of the customers, even the cooks, cower and flinch at the sound.

She couldn’t help but sigh, staring at her almost full plate with a small pout. Damn… this was her favorite too, she had a feeling she won’t be finishing it anytime soon.

Don Krieg stood at the door pale and skinny, being held up by the pirate that had shown up four days ago.

Wait- he was one of Kriegs? Really? How did she miss that? She huffed before shaking her head, oh well, no point in dwelling on it.

“Please sir… can I have some food? Water? I’m starving… it’s been so long, I don’t even remember the last time i had eaten. Please.” Don Krieg’s voice was weak, and Sarah couldn’t help how her eyes widened at the sight.

That big bad pirate from before, now begging for food? She thought he was too proud for that, at least, from what she had seen.

Don Krieg slipped out of the pirate holding him’s grip, falling to the ground with a painful thud that Sarah couldn’t help but wince at.

“Please, food, water! He hasn’t had anything to eat for days! Please help him!” the pirate begged, kneeling next to his captain.

Sarah felt a pang of pity for the men, they did look really hungry.

Sarah eyed her plate of food in silent grief, before sighing and standing up from where she was sitting, grabbing the plate from the table.

Hawky was gonna be pissed when he found out, although, he never really did like hurting a man while they were already down, so maybe he could see this as her strengthening his enemy to make it more satisfying?

Oh well, whatever excuse she comes up with. He’ll get over it eventually. That man never was any good at staying mad at her for long.

She confidently walked towards the kneeling pirate, meeting his wide-eyed disbelieving stare with a raised eyebrow.

She crouched in front of him, ignoring the yelled warnings and denials around her, and set the plate down.

The pirate stared at her wide-eyed for another moment, before he quickly started lifting his captain up to feed him. Thanking her profusely.

She sighed, pushing the plate out of his reach, “I’m only doing this so you guys can leave. I have a date tomorrow that I really don’t want to be ruined. My husband doesn’t exactly like you guys. So in order for him to eat, he needs to promise to leave quietly after.”

Everyone stared at her in disbelief.

Despite that, the pirate in front of her nodded gratefully, turning towards his downed captain to wait for his answer.

Don Krieg slowly worked his way up, gasping for breath every moment he could. But, despite that, he still answered her.

“I won’t do anything… once I eat I’ll leave peacefully…” he panted, bowing his head.

Sarah narrowed her eyes at him, not quite believing him, but also not willing to let a man starve. No matter how cruel.

With a resigned sigh, she slid the plate over, ignoring the screeching yells of the burly chef on the stairs behind her.

With that done, she stood. Making her way back into the crowd that parted and glared at her like she was the plague. And took her seat back at her table.

ouch. Can’t say she can blame them though.

The dude is an asshole.

She watched as Sanji made his way down the stairs, a bowl full of food in his hand.

Oh, come on! So she didn’t have to give up her food? She pouted at that. Just her luck.

Sanji looked shocked at the fact that Don Krieg was eating, but proceeded to give the man the bowl anyways, muttering something about not wasting food.

That brought everyone’s scornful attention away from her and towards the chef. Making her sigh in relief.

She tuned out of the confrontation when one of the chefs started going into Don Krieg’s backstory, not really caring much for the details.

Although, she was jolted back into it when she heard a slam, and watched with muted alarm as Don Krieg clotheslined Sanji. Not surprised, but definitely alarmed.

That looked painful.

All of the customers around her screamed and retreated deeper into the restaurant, leaving her sitting at her table alone.

“This is not what we agreed on! I brought you here under the condition that you wouldn’t touch this restaurant!” the pirate who had brought in the asshole captain yelled, sweat trickling down his face. “That man saved us-!

He was cut off when his captain grabbed his shoulder in a painful grip and lifted him completely off of the ground.

“Yes, that was delicious!” Krieg grinned. Crushing the bone in the poor man’s shoulder. “I feel alive again!” with that he dropped him.

All of the customers rushed out of the restaurant, screaming as if on fire. All while Sarah stayed seated, even if she did run, its not like she had anywhere to go, besides, she was waiting on someone.

She wouldn’t leave just cause some mean pirate decided to bite the hand that quite literally fed him.

Don surveyed the area, stopping briefly on Sarah with a disgusting grin, before turning to the rest of the cooks still there.

“This is a lovely ship! I’ll take it.” he then turned his eyes back to the red-haired woman, making her shift uncomfortably “and you.”

Her eyes widened, oh ya, he’s definitely not going to be happy.

At least his anger won’t be on Sarah! Not that it ever really is, but still. This man just keeps giving him reasons!

At this rate, Hawky’s just gonna torture the man!

“Uhmmm, sorry? Married, can’t happen.” she stated, raising her left hand to show the beautiful black ring with little flecks of gold surrounding a small red jewal resting on her ring finger.

Krieg’s eyes narrowed cruelly, “it wasn’t an option.” he stated. But made no move toward her.

Sarah winced, “weeeell, I’m actually expecting him soon, I don’t think he’s gonna be very happy to see me taken by a bunch of east blue pirates, soooo…” she trailed off, ignoring the disbelieving stares around her.

Sanji slowly sat up from where he was laying on the ground, effectively drawing the fuming pirate’s attention away from her.

Also allowing her a small breath of relief.

“So that’s what you want, huh?” Sanji asked, voice strained as he sent her a concerned glance, to which she just smiled. No need to worry about her, she’s fine.

“Well! As you can see my ship is a bit worse for wear! I need a new one, so after a few chores I’m gonna need all of you to evacuate,” he then turned back to Sarah with a sneer “except you sweetheart.”

She winced again… shiiiit. This probably wasn’t what he meant by ‘be safe’.

“Don Krieg, this isn’t what we agreed on!” the pirate on the floor yelled, voice pained as he clutched his injured shoulder.

Krieg ignored him. “There are about 100 men on board my ship, all weak with hunger and severe injuries. If you value your lives, you will make 100 meals and water for them to have. I’ve lost too many men to hunger already.”

You’re telling us to feed our executioners!? Do you hear how stupid that sounds!?”

“We refuse!”

Don Krieg grinned evilly. “You refuse? I wasn’t asking.” he snarled. “Listen here cooks, I’m not placing an order, I’m giving you one. DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR!?” the man bellowed and Sarah flinched slightly at the sudden sound. Not expecting him to yell that loudly.

She pouted as she rubbed her ear… oww.

“S-Sanji, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for this to happen” the pirate on the floor apologized. Stil clutching his injured shoulder.

The burly chef from earlier turned towards Sanji with a scowl, “Look what you’ve done, you son of a bitch!” he yelled.

Making Sarah stare at them guiltily, she was the first one to feed him. It’s technically her fault.

Sanji met her eyes with- what she hoped at least- a reassuring smile, that did absolutely nothing to reassure her.

Sanji silently stood, face blank as he turned towards the stairs and made his way to them.

“Hey! Where do you think you’re going!” the burly cook yelled. And Sanji just smirked, wiping the blood that dribbled down his chin.

“To the kitchen, looks like i have 100 more meals to make.”

What!? Are you CRAZY!?” the cooks roared, making Sarah wince and rub at her ears again.

Seriously!? What is with men and yelling?

At least she’s fallen for one that’s more of a silent anger, Sarah honestly can’t think of a single moment where her husband had actually yelled.

Even at Red hair! And that man is a professional at testing Hawky’s patience.

Before Sanji could even take one more step towards the stairs, all of the cooks pulled out long and sharp kitchen utensils, blocking Sanji’s path.

“Tell us the truth, Sanji!”

“Are you a spy!?”

“We can’t let you go anywhere near that kitchen!”

“Were fed up with you acting crazy!”

“Alright.” Sanji raised his hands in a T pose, face blank. “Stop me, if you want.” he raised his chin, allowing them easy access to his neck. “I know. It’s no secret that Don Krieg is a terrible, ruthless man. But that doesn’t matter to me, it doesn’t matter! After we feed all these men, who knows what they might do? But, I’m just a simple cook, no more, no less. If someone is hungry, it is my duty to feed them, that’s all I know.” he raised his gaze to meet the cooks, “what? Is that wrong?”

Bang! “Patty!”

Sanji went down with a thump as the burly cook from earlier punched him from behind.

Sarah could only stare wide-eyed. Wow… he’s a dick.

“Hey! Somebody, grab him!” the burly cook, Patty, yelled. “You bring free food to the bums I kick out of this place! I’m not about to argue who’s right in that situation, but this time you’re just flat-out wrong Sanji! I can’t let you do shit like that anymore!” Patty marched under the stairs, crouching down and opening a hidden compartment. “I’m going to protect this restaurant!”

Patty pulled out a mystery item covered in cloth, “now I hope you’re ready for dessert, Don Krieg!” he ripped the cloth off to reveal- wait, is that a launcher? Why does it look like a crayfish?

Patty pointed the red launcher at the pirate before powering it up, “Meat Ball of Doom!!” he yelled.

Sarah instinctively covered her ears, jumping out of her chair to step away.

Patty pulled the trigger, and soon, a bright flash of light blinded everyone in range, while a deafening bang made everyone wince and cover their ears.

The shock wave of the cannonball? Forced everyone to step back and cover their eyes. Sarah fell onto the ground, not taking her hands off of her ears for even a second.

She landed hard, making her wince. That’s gonna leave a bruise… ow…

When the dust finally started settling, Sarah slowly released her ears, paying close attention to the entrance where Krieg had stood.

When it was completely settled, Sarah could see shock ripple through the crowd of cooks as they saw Don Krieg stand there completely unharmed.

“That dessert was terrible, the worst I’ve ever had!” the man yelled as the sounds of guns and machines clicking rang through the establishment. “So die!!” he roared, soon followed by the deafening sounds of guns firing, taking down most of the chefs in front of him.

From her spot on the floor, Sarah could only gape at the sight of the fuming pirate. He was wearing thick gold armor, that had many mini-guns poking out.

Holy crap… that’s SO COOL!

She’s never seen something like that before and with gold!? Oh, she can’t wait to tell Hawky about this!

“You dare defy me! I am by far the strongest man!!”

snort.

Sarah clapped a hand on her mouth, a vain attempt to stifle her laughter.

Oh, that was too good!

Strongest man? Really? Has he not heard of Whitebeard? Or does he truly think he is stronger than him?

She started giggling uncontrollably, earning stunned and horrified silence from the men around her.

“S-sorry! Sorry.” she giggled, not flinching at the scathing glare being thrown her way from the man in question. “Strongest? Are you sure?”

A vein pulsed on Krieg’s forehead, “Yes I am!” he growled, staring Sarah down.

And she tried her hardest to keep her comments to herself, but… she never has been known to have good impulse control.

She giggled again, “what about Whitebeard?” she asked, tears gathering in her eyes as she fought for control.

“Whitebeard is a weakling compared to me!”

Oh no…

Just like that, she lost her battle. Uncontrollable laughter spilled out of her in waves, unable to keep it in.

Lady no! What are you thinking!”

“Stop laughing!”

“You’re going to get yourself killed!

Oh, this is priceless! Shanks would love this! And so would Whitebeard himself!

Don Krieg started marching her way, even as she scrambled back.

It’s not like the man could kill her, or that she was particularly weak. It’s just, she’s more of a flight than a fight kind of gal.

And right now, she really needs to fly.

Don Krieg was forced to stop by the sound of heavy footsteps coming down the stairs. pushing Luffy (who she just now realized had been there the whole time) out of the way while carrying a sack larger than himself, was Red Leg Zeff.

Don Krieg sent her a scathing glare, before turning his attention to the approaching older man.

When Zeff stood right in front of Krieg, he dropped the large sack. “This is around 100 meals, now take it to your men.”

“No! Owner Zeff!” cried the cooks around, allowing Sarah time to calm herself down.

Krieg could only stare wide-eyed.

Zeff turned on his heel and started walking away.

What are you thinking!”

“You can’t be serious!”

“If those pirates get their strength back, the whole ship will be taken over!”

He stopped his march, “that would be true if they still had the will to fight.” he then turned back towards the still-frozen Don Krieg, “tell me, did your will survive defeat?”

“What?”

“The great Don Krieg? Defeated?”

“No way… not even they could do it?”

“It is you, isn’t it? Your Red foot Zeff!” Don Krieg said, ignoring the comments of the men around him, gaze transfixed on the retired pirate in front of him.

His eyes narrowed, “so you are alive, the unrivaled pirate who was a cook and yet also a captain.”

“Yes, that’s right. I’m still alive.” Zeff turned his full attention towards Krieg. “But what does any of this got to do with you? I haven’t been a pirate for years now, i chose the life of a cook.”

Don Krieg laughed cruelly. “Chose the life of a cook, huh? Yeah right.” he grinned. “You didn’t have a choice, old man. You live as a cook because the only thing you can be now is a cook-”

Sarah blinked as Don Krieg went into Zeff’s past, quickly losing interest. She sighed, standing from where she was still seated on the floor, before making her way back to her table and sitting down.

“You know it is a pity that you no longer have that precious leg of yours. I heard that rumor some time ago, how unlucky for you to have such an accident at sea. Now that your greatest weapon is gone, you’re completely defenseless, unable to fight!”

Sarah blinked, confused.

The man still had a leg, it’s just wood now. Which- honestly? Probably hurt a lot worse than boots would.

Besides, one of the four emperors, who’s a swordsman at that, had lost his arm! And that was before he became an Emperor!

“Hm, what about fighting? I’m a cook, as long as I have my two hands, ill be just fine.” Zeff answered. “Enough chit-chat, get to the point! What do you want from me?”

Krieg grinned, “you’re the man who sailed the perilous waters of the grand line and came back unscathed.”

Wait- is that uncommon here? Man, she really needs to start visiting the blues more often.

“There should be a log book detailing a full year of your journey. Give it to me, Now!”

Woah! You’ve been to the grand line too, pops?” Luffy grinned, stars practically shining in his eyes.

“My logbook huh? Your right, I do have it with me.” Krieg grinned wider. “But i will never hand it over to you!”

Krieg’s grin dropped like a stone in a pond.

“You ignorant brute! That logbook is sacred to me! It’s the pride of the crewmen I sailed with! It’s far too important to give to you.”

Krieg scowled, “alright then, ill just take it! It’s true that the grand line beat me, but still, I will never give up on it! The only thing I lacked was information. Once I have your logbook i’ll form another fleet and seize the legendary one piece.”

Sarah’s raised her eyebrows at that. another hopeful, huh?

How many of those have Hawky taken down since she’s known him? she paused to think before shaking her head, too many to count, honestly.

No one has taken the throne yet, not even the strongest. And it most likely won’t be taken anytime soon.

The movement next to Zeff caught Sarah’s attention. And she watched, intrigued, as Luffy stepped towards the towering pirate still standing in the door.

The straw hat wearing kid pointed his finger at Krieg, a hand on his aproned hip. “Now hold on! It’s me that’ll be king of the pirates!”

Sarah smiled as everyone else froze. Now that is more believable. And that kid hasn’t even been on the grand line yet!

Wait! Don’t be such an idiot! Back off chore boy, your no match!” Patty yelled.

Luffy grinned, “no way, not from this.”

Don Krieg narrowed his eyes dangerously on Luffy, “did you say something, brat?” he growled, “I won’t allow that kind of stupidity again.”

Sarah blinked in shock, wow, okay then. This dude really needed to learn that appearance meant nothing on the grand line, especially if he wants to conquer it.

“Oh ya? Well, stupid or not, I’m just stating a fact.” Luffy said, matter of factly.

Don Krieg scowled, “this isn’t a game.”

Luffy only grinned wider, “Ya, I know. But I’m still gonna conquer the grand line!”

A vein pulsed on Krieg’s forehead, “NO YOU WON’T! It’s true we didn’t have the information we needed, but my fleet of 5,000 men were wiped out in just seven days! That sea is hell!”

“W-what!?”

“S-seven days!?”

Sarah ignored the outcries, instead focusing on the argument in front of her.

“I don’t find your smart-ass jokes very amusing! If you insist on this foolish behavior ill crush you right here and now!”

Luffy brought his arm up as if preparing to punch, “go ahead, if you can!” he grinned.

Don Krieg somehow scowled deeper, “I can and i will! It’ll be my pleasure to send you six feet under, you cocky runt!” he readied his guns, aiming them towards the straw-hatted teen.

The sound of a sword clicking out of its sheath drew Sarah and Krieg’s attention toward the stairs. Where both Ussop and Zoro stood.

“What’s going on, Luffy? Need a hand?” the green-haired swordsman smirked, hand resting on his partially unsheathed white blade.

“I-if you don’t need help, that’s fine too!” Ussopp input, smile, and legs quivering.

“Oh hey guys, appreciate it, but I think I can handle this clown,” Luffy said, allowing Zoro to let go of his sword and for Ussopp to melt in relief.

Ussopp started rambling shakily, only to be cut off by an elbow to the gut by Zoro, starting an argument between them.

“Ha! That’s your crew!? Is that all of them?” Don Krieg smirked.

“Nuh-uh! I have two more!” Luffy stated, ignoring Sanji’s cry of “I’m not in your crew!”

Krieg put away his guns with a smirk, “i’ll deal with you later, right now I’m going to go feed my men.” he threw the giant sack of food over his shoulder, “those of you who don’t wish to die can leave this restaurant and escape. The only things I’m after, are the logbook, and this ship.” he turned and started out of the door, before pausing, “however, if you wish to stay and be slaughtered then be my guest!” with that, he made his way completely out of the door and back towards his own ship.

All of the cooks, sans Sanji and Zeff, glared at the lone pirate still clutching his injured shoulder. Head bowed.

“I-I’m so sorry, Sanji. I never thought it would be this way.” the man apologized, voice strained.

“You have nothing to apologize for, sailer.” Zeff cut in, drawing their attention. “Every cook at this restaurant did what they thought was right, that’s all there is to it.”

“Boss! Why are you taking Sanji’s side? This mess is his fault!” Patty yelled.

“He’s right! He’s responsible for all of this!”

“Ya, boss! He’s gonna put your restaurant out of-”

“YOU FOOLS DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT!!” Zeff snapped, shocking everyone into silence. “None of you know what it’s like to be on the brink of starvation! To have no food or water on the open ocean! There’s no way for you to understand what a terrifying prospect that is. It’s the most difficult situation a man can face!”

“W-what? What do you mean, Boss?”

“The difference between all of you and Sanji is that Sanji knows.” Sarah’s lips thinned into a grim line.

Confused murmurs rang through the crowd, making Zeff scowl. “If all your gonna do is stand around grumbling, then leave and never come back.” gasps rang through the occupied room.

Patty clutched his weapon harder, “I for one am gonna fight! I couldn’t live with myself if I accepted defeat!”

Roars of agreement rang through the once-silent crowd and Sarah couldn’t help but smile at the sight.

The pirate on the floor slammed his hands on the tile, “what are you doing!? You saw how powerful Don is, right!?”

“Hey Ghin,” Sanji stood. “I’m only going to say this once so listen closely, feeding someone whos hungry is my sacred moral duty. But! Now that your crew is well fed, I have no obligation to them, meaning I can beat every one of them into the ground with a clean conscious. Anyone who tries to take the restaurant, i’ll kill with zero hesitation, even if it’s you. Got that?”

The pirate- Ghin, swallowed audibly, sweat trickling down his face.

“Hey Ghin,” Luffy started, “you said you know nothing about the grand line, but you’ve already been there, that doesn’t make any sense?”

“It happened on the seventh day on the grand line,” Sarah leaned in, a smile crawling onto her face. “I don’t know if it was a dream or reality… i saw things that I can’t even believe, I know in my heart that it’s impossible, for that 50-ship fleet to be completely wiped out by one man!”

Shock rippled through the crowd as everyone took in those words, and Sarah couldn’t stifle her grin at everyone’s faces.

“It all happened so fast. As soon as this man appeared he started sinking one ship after the other! If that storm hadn’t come when it did, then that monster would’ve took down our flag ship as well!”

Sarah frowned, rude, he’s not a monster. Also, Hawky never said anything about a storm. She hummed, tilting her head in concern, she hoped nothing got ruined.

“I don’t know if a single ship other than ours made it out. It all seems like a terrible nightmare that burned into my brain! I just want to forget… his eyes… they were like hawk’s! Sharp and murderous, his gaze alone felt like death!

Sarah had to clamp her hand on her mouth, stifling her grin, it’s kind of hard to picture someone being that intimidating when you’ve seen them cook for you in a pink apron. Or fish your pet dwarf human-drill out of the moat around the castle, and end up looking like a drowned house cat.

“Well then, that can only be the one known as Hawk-eye,” Zeff stated with his arms crossed, and Sarah couldn’t stifle her proud grin.

It never got old seeing people react like that when hearing about him.

“Your description of his cold gaze was proof enough, but your telling of him decimating your fleet was just confirmation.”

“Hawky-eye Mihawk…” that dragged Sarah’s attention towards the green-haired swordsman on the stairs.

“You know him Zoro?” Luffy asked, making Sarah tilt her head curiously.

“Ya, he’s the man I’ve been looking for. Hawk-eye is the whole reason I set out to sea.”

Sarah’s eyes widened, was he wanting to fight him? She sighed, she really liked Zoro, and all she can hope for is that Hawky finds Zoro good enough to spare.

Which is rare, but not impossible.

“Did he have a score to settle with you guys or something?” Sanji questioned, idly smoking his cigarette.

“No! We didn’t do anything to him!” Ghin swore.

“Perhaps you disturbed his nap,” Zeff said, making Sarah snort. Earning a confused glance from Sanji and a suspicious side-eye from Zeff.

“Stupid cook! I’ll be damned if he crushed our fleet for such a reason!” Ghin yelled.

Sarah winced, no, that’s exactly the reason.

“Do you have something to share, girl?” Zeff asked, bringing everyone’s attention toward her.

She winced again, dirty move old man, dirty move. “Well- actually- I was just thinking that it isn’t that out of the box of a reason? right?

“And why is that?” Zeff asked.

She huffed, “because he likes his naps and hates being interrupted. He’s kinda like a house cat in that way, he get’s grumpy if you disturb him.” she shrugged, staring Zeff dead in the eyes as his narrowed.

She ignored the bug-eyed stares around her. She did just compare one of the warlords to a housecat after all.

“What’s your name?” He questioned, making her grin at him.

“Based on the look on your face, you either already know or have a suspicion,” she answered cheekily.

“What do you know about Hawk-eyes!” Ghin yelled at her, before turning towards Zeff, “who is she!?”

Zeff shrugged, a mischievous grin sneaking onto his face. “Your husband, when is he supposed to show up?” the old man asked.

Her cheeky grin turned excited. “Oh! Either today or tomorrow!”

Zeff hummed, “be sure to stay out of trouble, then. I don’t want any more damage to my ship than necessary.”

“Yessir! Will do!” she mock saluted.

All the chefs stared, confused at their conversation. Not understanding the significance of it.

Sarah’s attention was brought away from Ghin and Zeff by Luffy, who was grinning like a madman.

“Yay! I’m so excited, the grand line sounds so cool!” he cheered, making Sarah smile in startled amusement.

“Finally, my life’s goal will be achieved on the grand line,” Zoro said, leaning back on the brick wall behind him “that man… he’s out there somewhere and I’m gonna find him.”

“Are you that stupid?” Sanji asked, “it’s idiots like you guys that end up dead in the first week.”

Zoro’s expression turned stony, “yeah, but be careful of who you call ‘stupid’. I devoted my entire life to becoming the world’s greatest swordsman, I made my choice so I’m the only one who gets to call me stupid.” he glared at the blonde cook with his arms crossed.

Sanji stayed silent. Turning away from the two on the stairs and back towards the pirate on the ground.

They could hear the war cry of the men on Krieg’s ship as the cooks readied themselves.

“Get ready everyone!”

“Here they come!”

The cries got louder and louder before they were silenced. The Don Krieg ship creaked and split, sending waves towards the Baratie, rocking it dangerously.

Everyone, including her, stumbled and fell as the ship was thrown about.

Sarah’s eyes were wide in excitement. He’s here!

“Raise the anchor, or we’ll go down with them!!” Zeff ordered with a bellow, and his men responded instantly.

Sarah fought to keep her footing. Stumbling to catch the table with her hands. Wincing as her bruises flared from the jostling movement.

Couldn’t he have been just a little bit gentler?

Mihawk kept his head low as he approached the floating restaurant called The Baratie. Ignoring the panicked calls of the annoying men trying to swim away from the now sinking ship.

He has no use for them, they were in his way. And they were growing quite annoying with their yelling.

Was this what Sarah had been dealing with for four days?

Mihawk scowled, that would be unfortunate. For them, at least.

When he got closer to the restaurant, he could feel Penguin getting more restless beside him. Making him second guess his decision to bring the… special human drill.

No. it’ll make his wife happy to have her pet- friend- be brought along. Despite how annoying the monkey could get.

“Y-you monster! Why are you doing this!? What the hell have we ever done to you!?” a nameless annoyance yelled from beside him.

Mihawk turned his gaze toward him. “Just passing through,” he answered. Smirking as the man roared, taking out his pistol as if to shoot him.

Mihawk unsheathed Yoru, and when the shots were fired, he pointed his blade and tilted it slightly. Forcing the bullets to hit it and sail right past him.

He ignored the men’s squawking as he placed his blade onto his back, sending Penguin an annoyed glare when he started screaming in his ear. Only, to be given one right back.

He huffed, monkeys and their above-average intelligence. It made his life so much more difficult.

“I’ve never seen a sword handled so gently, or with such grace.” a masculine voice stated, making Mihawk turn his gaze from the monkey by his side to a green-haired man with three swords.

Three? What could someone do with three swords? Are they backup?

“There’s no strength in swordplay based on force,” he answered, narrowing his eyes on the teen. He had his hand on the white sword at his hip, he looked eager.

A challenger, maybe?

“Did you also use that sword to slice up this ship?”

He regarded the green-haired teen curiously, “I did”

The teen grinned. “Then it’s true, you're the greatest swordsman.” he let go of his white blade to pull a dark green bandana over his head, “i set sale for one reason. To meet you.”

Mihawk raised an eyebrow at that. So he was right, he is a challenger. “And what is your goal?” he questioned, curious as to the reasons for his challenge. Money? Fame? Both?

His answer made Mihawk smirk coldly.

“To beat you.”

“How foolish.”

With that, the green-haired young man pulled his blade, pointing it directly at the sitting swordsman. “You must have spare time, so let’s do this.” he challenged.

Mihawk hesitated, sending a glance over to the Baratie. He couldn’t see Sarah at the moment, so if he made this quick it should be alright.

He turned towards Penguin, “Go find her, monkey. I’ll find you two after this is done.” he ordered, earning a rather impressive glare from said monkey. Making Mihawk think that if the order wasn’t to find the monkey’s favorite human, he probably would’ve ignored it.

But- Penguin nodded, albeit hesitantly, before jumping off of his small boat and onto the closest piece of floating debris. Allowing Mihawk to turn his attention back to his challenger.

Gods he despised that monkey.

“A fight?” he started, testing the man’s patience. “You’re too weak.” with that, he jumped from his ship to the debris his challenger stood on. “If you truly are a competent swordsman, then you should see the difference in strength even before we cross swords,” he stated, watching the man’s reaction. “I must ask, why challenge me? Is it your courage? Or simply your arrogance?”

The young man grinned, “My ambition!” with that said, he placed the white sword in his mouth before drawing the other two.

Mihawk raised his eyebrow in mild surprise. In his mouth?

“Also, I made a promise I intend to keep.” his words were slightly muffled by the sword, but Mihawk heard it all the same.

A promise, huh? Admirable, but not enough to save his life.

Mihawk reached for the cross at his neck, unsheathing the small blade hidden inside.

It was a gift from Sarah on their first anniversary. It was sadly the smallest blade he had, so he’d have to use it. He’d just have to make sure nothing happened to it.

Not that the boy in front of him could do anything to it.

“Unfortunately, i don’t have a blade smaller than this one.” he apologized, genuinely. Angering the teen in front of him.

With his challenger charging first, the fight had officially begun.

Roronoa Zoro stood back up, despite his injuries, and bared his chest for Mihawk to slice.

His eyes widened a fraction, “why?”

Roronoa grinned, “Scars on the back are the swordsman’s shame.” he stated as if it were obvious.

Mihawk smirked, respect swelling in his gut from the boy’s resolve alone. It seems Roronoa will get to live another day, he needs to live long enough to overpower him, after all.

With that thought in mind, Mihawk weakly sliced the man’s torso, from shoulder to hip. Not deep enough to kill if he got immediate attention, but deep enough to leave a painful scar.

He watched as Roronoa fell into the ocean with a blank face. Barely hiding his intrigue. Now that the fight was over, he needed to find the reason for his being there.

Would she still want that date after everything was over? Or would she prefer somewhere else?

Mihawk dodged the flying straw-hatted teen as he flew towards him with rage twisting his expression. Watching boredly as he rammed right into the wood behind him.

Hmm, someone wasn’t happy with the outcome of that fight.

“Are you that young swordsman’s comrade?” he questioned as he watched the teen struggle to get his head free. His neck stretched much like his arm did.

Devil fruit user, then.

“I’m impressed with you for not interfering.” he complimented before he turned back towards where the swordsman was getting dragged out of the water. “There’s nothing to be upset about, your friend will live.”

“It is far too early for you to die!” he yelled, making his voice reach the downed swordsman, “My name is Hawk-eye Mihawk! You are strong, but there is much for you to learn. For as long as it takes i will hold this title and wait for you. Until that day, you must hone your skills. Then- seek me out, Roronoa Zoro!”

With that said, he turned towards the black-haired teen behind him. “You. What is your goal?”

The teen met his eyes evenly, “to be the king.” he stated, with no hesitation.

Mihawk smirked, “your ambitions are even loftier than your friends.”

“Ya, well you just let me worry about that.” the teen answered stubbornly, before sticking his tongue out like a child.

Mihawk raised an eyebrow at that before turning his attention toward the boat holding the injured swordsman.

He could see the blade of his sword sticking straight into the sky.

“L-Luffy, can you hear me?” Roronoa asked, voice weak and rough.

“Ya!” the boy next to him answered.

“I-I’m sorry for disappointing you… I know you need nothing less than the greatest swordsman in your crew… I let you down! Please forgive me-” he coughed wetly, and Mihawk could hear his ally’s panic before he continued. “I solemnly swear! From this moment forward, that I will never lose again! Until the day comes that I defeat him and take his title!” his voice was thick, from what Mihawk assumes to be tears. He smirked. He has ambition indeed. “Is that alright with you, future king of the pirates!?”

The black-haired teen next to him- Luffy, giggled. “Yup!”

He side-eyed him, “you’re a good team.” he stated, before turning towards the Baratie, “I hope after today, I will see you again.” with that, he made his way to the edge of the debris. His eyes focused on one person and one person only.

A more genuine smile overtook his smirk at the excited look on her face.

Only to pause, annoyance overriding his joy, from both the intervention and the way her face fell.

“Hey! Hawk-eye!” a gruff voice called. “I was under the impression that you had come here to take my life. Weren’t you here to kill Don Krieg, ruler of the east blue?”

Mihawk froze completely.

What…?

He could feel his earlier fury bubble under his cold exterior, making his smirk morph into a scowl.

He’s supposed to be on the grand line. Where neither he nor Sarah had to ever see him again.

What is he doing here?!

Sarah’s face fell when she heard Don Krieg speak.

No, you idiot! You were supposed to be quiet!

Do you have a death wish!?

She hugged Penguin tighter as she saw her husband’s face morph into a scowl. His yellow eyes seeming to glow as he tilted his head to see the man himself.

Oh no- stupid!” she cursed under her breath, gaining the attention of both Sanji and Zeff.

Zeff side-eyed her, “what do you mean by that?” he asked skeptically.

She turned towards him slightly sheepish but mostly panicked. “Umm-”

His eyes narrowed.

“It means i need someone to bring me over there?” she asked more than said as she raised one of her hands to point at her husband and Luffy’s location.

Sanji stared at her wide-eyed, “are you stupid!? You’ll get yourself killed if you go over there!”

She watched as her husband slowly turned to glare daggers at Don Krieg, “What. are. You doing here.”

She ignored Sanji and turned towards Zeff a lot more panicked, “Zeff if you want me to keep him from harming the Baratie then you have to get me over there.” she said, her voice fast. “I told Hawky how i had ended up here! I was hoping he would be gone already!”

Zeff paused, his eyes widening before he looked at Mihawks furious form with a more contemplative gaze. Finally, he nodded.

“Brat!” he snapped, silencing Sanji into turning towards him, “bring this young lady over to that piece of debris then come back here,” he ordered.

Sanji’s face fell in surprise, “what! No way am i gonna bring a lady-”

“Just do it!” Zeff glared at Sanji and Sanji glared back.

Sarah decided to pull out the big guns. She turned towards Sanji with a pleading look, “Sanji, please. I’ll be fine! That teddy bear of a man won’t let anything happen, okay?”

Sanji met her eyes reluctantly, if not a little confused, which she met evenly.

Finally, he sighed. “Okay.”

She grinned, clapping her hands. “Yay! Thank you!”

With that, Sanji grabbed her in bridle style and jumped onto the floating platform. Easily gaining Mihawk’s attention.

Sanji placed her on the ground, and with a reluctant look, jumped back to the Baratie.

Sarah sighed before turning back to the three people currently on the floating piece of debris. Easily gaining all of their attention. She let Penguin jump out of her arms and onto the debris with her.

“Ahh, come to give yourself up? Finally realized it was a lost cause to fight, sweetheart?” Don Krieg leered, “can’t say I’m not disappointed. I like when they put up a fight.”

Sarah froze, her eyes bugging as she turned towards the source of the voice, before slowly turning towards Mihawk.

Noooooo… why couldn’t he just stay quiet!

Hawky’s eyes were blown wide, face twisted furiously as he realized the meaning behind those words.

“What?”

Sarah scrambled forward, stopping in front of Hawky before he could even start walking.

Sanji stepped forward furiously, planning on jumping over there again just to beat that man to the ground for speaking to a woman like that.

Only to pause when a hand was placed on his chest, stopping his efforts.

His face twisted in rage, “what the hell old man!? Didn’t you hear what he just said!?” he snapped as he whipped towards Zeff furiously.

Only to freeze at what he saw. Zeff was pale. Alarmed and wide-eyed.

What…?” he breathed, confused.

Zeff’s eyes narrowed before he used his other hand to point to Hawk-eye. Making Sanji turn towards the man.

Oh.

Hawk-eye looked murderous. The look on the man’s face was enough to make Sanji pale much like Zeff did.

“Is he the husband she’s been waiting for?” he questioned, gaining the attention of the chefs around him.

Zeff’s face hardened. “Let’s just hope the girly can get him out of there before we end up in the ocean with Krieg.” was all he said, but it was more than enough of a confirmation.

No no no nononono.” she repeated as she ran in front of her murderous husband, placing her hands on his exposed chest to stop his advances.

Mihawks eyes refused to leave Kriegs cocky ones.

What? Is that your husband? Afraid he’s going to get hurt?” Krieg taunted, somehow ignoring the piercing yellow eyes burning into his skull.

Sarah scowled, whipping towards the infuriating man. “No, dumbass! I’m trying to keep him from murdering you! Unlike you three I don’t want to watch someone get brutally murdered!” she snapped, glaring at him to the best of her abilities.

That made Mihawk pause, his eyes lowering to her smaller form in surprise. His eyes softened some. She could tell that he was still undeniably pissed, but at least now he would look at her instead of him.

She met his eyes squarely. “Please, hawky. It’s not our fight, leave it to the cooks and straw hats.” she pleaded.

Hawky faltered for a moment, his gaze moving from her to Krieg.

“Besides! It was all talk! It’s not like he would’ve actually succeeded! I’m fine see?” she grinned. Raising her arms in emphasis.

Mihawks eyes narrowed. Making her smile soften into something more genuine.

“Let’s just leave and have our date somewhere else, okay? Somewhere without fighting pirates and angry cooks. And I promise, if by chance we see him again after this, you can do whatever you want to him, okay?”

She heard Hawky exhale through his nose before glaring daggers at Don Krieg. “Fine.” he conceded reluctantly.

She cheered, clapping her hands, “yay! Let’s go then! Im starving!” she beamed, grabbing Mihawks hand and dragging him towards his small boat cheerfully. Ignoring the yelled demands and threats from Krieg. Only squeezing Mihawks hand whenever she felt him squeeze hers in anger. “C’mon Penguin!” she called to her dwarf human drill. Easily gaining his attention.

She easily climbed into the coffin boat, quickly followed by a reluctant Mihawk and an overexcited Human drill.

Luckily, Krieg didn’t use any stupid attack on them as they left. Allowing Sarah to relax and practically fall into Mhawks seat. Taking it for herself seeing as he was still standing watching where they had come from with narrowed eyes.

She sighed with a smile, “y’know Luffy’s probably gonna fight him.” she said, gaining Hawky’s attention, “he’s strong. He earned the hat he has on his head, I’m willing to bet he’ll win.” she stated, meeting her husband’s eyes.

Mihawk raised an eyebrow at that, “is that right?” he questioned, before he hummed, “alright, then. Looks like we’ll just have to keep an eye on the papers, won’t we? I have someone i am betting on as well.” his face softened before he walked over to the chair and sat at her feet, right in front of her. Placing Yoru and his hat on the planks next to him, he leaned back, allowing her to hug him from behind and lean on him with a smile.

“Missed you” she murmured into his shoulder. He hummed, turning his head to kiss her softly on the lips before leaning back further, and closing his eyes with a smile.

“I missed you too,” he replied, making her grin sappily.

One week later…

“Hawky! Look! Look! Look!” Sarah shrieked as she bolted towards the lounge, almost slipping on the carpet in the hallway.

Mihawk simply raised his head and regarded her curiously.

She ran toward him with a beaming grin, “I was right! Look!” she said again as she practically shoved the paper she was holding into his face in her excitement.

Mihawk took in stride, instead just looking at her confused before gazing down at the paper in her hands.

His eyebrows rose in surprise and amusement at what he saw.
