Silent Tears

Summary:

Post-breakup, Carlos sits alone in the loft. A double drabble pre-Season 3. Day 17 (late) of Febuwhump 2023

Prompt: silent tears

Notes:

I ended up rewatching S3 over the last week (okay, parts of it, I skipped a lot), and I kept coming back to wanting to hop into Carlos’ head regarding the breakup. (Also, still haven’t watched Season 4 yet, probably gonna wait until midseason to blast through it in one fail swoop of scene skips.)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Going from madly in love to bitterly broken apart hurt more than Carlos was willing to ever speak about.

The loft that he’d finally found for him and TK felt too big for just himself. The little touches he’d gone out of his way to include to make sure that TK felt at home when he moved in now were a hollow reminder of just how badly that moment had gone.

Why had TK broken up with him? Why had he done so and not explained it? Even now, weeks later, he still didn’t have answers. Their mutual friends didn’t really know either, or they were keeping TK’s confidence. While he was happy they were loyal to their coworker… He still wanted answers.

As much as he wanted to sell off the loft and just move on with his life, he just couldn’t. He’d never fallen so damn hard for someone like TK. He instead spent every night not working silently crying and wondering what went wrong, trying to figure out the answers that he wouldn’t get unless they just talked .

And later, once they finally did and all made sense, those tears of sorrow finally dried up with forgiveness.
