Work Text:
“Hey, anyone want to grab breakfast at the diner down the street?” Olaf asked after the boats and oars were put away after practice.
There were a few mumbled apologies as everyone as they packed their things and left.
“Kristoff?”
“Work!” he said, running off.
“What about you, Elsa?”
“Sorry, Olaf, I’ve got an early meeting today,” Elsa told him.
“I’d love some breakfast!” Anna declared. “It’s been forever since I’ve been to the diner.”
“Great!” Olaf exclaimed. “Hey, anyone else?”
“Their loss,” Anna sighed. “Let’s go.”
The tiny diner was crowded when they walked in, but some construction workers were just leaving the counter, so Anna and Olaf sat down. Anna looked through the menu as the woman behind the counter came up and took the dishes, wiping the countertop.
“Hello, Olaf!” she said. “And, Anna? I haven’t seen you in years!”
“Oh!” Anna said, finally looking up. “Hello, Halima!”
“Aren’t you going to college out of state?” Halima asked her.
“Yes,” Anna replied. “I’m going to be a senior this fall. I’m not doing anything this summer, so Elsa talked me into helping out with the rowing team.”
Halima nodded, bringing each of them coffee.
“You still like eggs over easy?” Halima asked her.
“Of course!” Anna replied.
“Pancakes for me!” Olaf added.
Halima went to take care of their orders, and Olaf set aside his menu.
“So, Anna…” he began.
“What, Olaf?” Anna asked.
“Who is this Hans?”
“Was I that obvious this weekend?” Anna laughed. “Anyway, he’s in your boat. I think you have a better idea than I do at this point.”
“Well, I only really got to look at him today. The last few weeks I had all the rowers behind me. Besides, he was kind of grumbling about having to get a ride with his ex.”
“Was he? Really, there’s not much to say. I thought there was more there than he did. I thought he made some promises, but I guess I was wrong.”
“I wouldn’t worry about what he said. From what Kristoff said, he was kind of drunk, anyway.”
“Which one is Kristoff?” Anna asked.
“He’s in Elsa’s boat now,” Olaf explained. “He’s a nice guy, even if he doesn’t always sound like it.”
Anna nodded. “Well, anyway, I don’t really feel like talking about Hans now, and besides, our food is here.”
