Chapter 1: You're back Home

Chapter Text

Serenity filled the atmosphere that belonged to the headquarters of the scout regiment. But no one dared to acknowledge the uneasiness they currently saw their Captain go through as the day progressed.

Suspicion soon began to rise and gossip left the lips of each individual, as they muttered ridiculous conspiracy theories as to why the captain looked so out of it today.

It all started earlier one afternoon, when he tasked his squadmates to clean various parts of the building. Obviously, nothing was out of the ordinary as he scolded them, “Hurry up, brats! This damn castle isn’t gonna clean itself, you can gossip like your average school girls later. Now go!”

Usually, the Captain would walk around the building inspecting the childrens’ derisory cleaning skills, as he preached about the importance of refining and hounding immaculate cleaning habits into their daily routines. Only this time, their Captain did no such thing. Everyone found it highly unusual that their Captain wasn’t down their throats, yelling and drilling out the key assets of fine cleaning, especially when it came to cleaning his bedroom and tea set to perfection.

Today, Levi was in his own little world and the new scouts soon decided to make a little bet as to what or who had affected him in such a way.

-

A low soft tune filled the halls, and Eren found himself following the tranquil voice. Much to his surprise he was met with his superior singing a love song as he quietly danced around the room cleaning, smiling and completely oblivious to the world surrounding him.

The sight was so foreign to Eren that he did not know whether or not to stare in awe or recoil back in fear.

Not wanting to feel the wrath of the captain, should he notice that one of his subordinates was watching him; the young teenager began to walk back to the previous room down the halls.

Crash.

At the sound, he immediately turned his head. Curiosity washed over the young teenage boy once again, and he soon found himself tracing back his steps.

As his feet brought him closer to the sound, Eren peered against the doorframe and his eyes met Captain Levi who was slowly losing his sanity.

Levi’s mouth was left slightly opened, lips quivering, and tears brimming the inner corner of his eyes; whether or not that was due to sadness or anger, Eren didn’t know. However, the overall expression painted across Levi’s face turned into more annoyance than sadness, as his eyes loomed over the broken table and china tea set that was now scattered on the wooden floor.

“I’m going to fucking kill Erwin for not replacing this damn table like he said he would. Fucking piece of shit.” muttered Levi, as he quickly hid his previous vexation and furiously began cleaning the floor, quietly picking up the broken glass as he did so.

“Hey, why are you so quiet Yeager? Spying on our captain, you know-” began a voice, before Eren automatically smacked his hands over the victim’s mouth.

“Jean. Shut up before he hears you.” said Eren in a low voice, as their eyes both returned to their captain who seemed to be muttering something.

“The hell am I supposed to get her now?” complained Levi, “What the fuck are you suppose to get your girlfriend after you completely broke the one thing they wanted?!”

At this, Jean and Eren’s eyes widened and they quietly ran back to the rest of the group who were gathered in the living room, procrastinating on their cleaning duties.

When the two approached their group of friends, they began panting completely out of breath.

Mikasa looked at the two in bewilderment before she walked off to grab a cup of water, immediately handing it to Eren and ordering him to drink out of the cup. Jean scoffed at the scene but became quiet when Mikasa handed him a plastic water bottle shortly after.

“Now that you’re refreshed, mind telling us why you came here running? I highly doubt either of you are done cleaning the east wing, you know Captain Levi will be mad once he sees you two here, since neither of you are even in charge of cleaning this part?” stated Armin, not even glancing at the two boys as he continued sweeping the floor.

Everyone else in the group nodded their heads in agreement as they awaited for the two boys’ response.

“Captain Levi has a girlfriend,” said Eren quietly, not believing the words that escaped his mouth.

“Eren, speak up. You know it’s bad to mumble your words,” scolded Mikasa.

Eren rolled his eyes at her statement and cleared his throat before he spoke up again, “The Captain, haven’t you guys noticed he’s been like... happier??”

“He seems fine to me,” replied Sasha who was stuffing her face with the assortment of fruits she found on the dining table in the living room.

“Yeager’s right. He seems nicer, he wasn’t as demanding when he told us to clean the building, Least… not as demanding as he was yesterday.” said Jean.

“You’re agreeing with Eren? That’s a surprise. Damn Jean, never thought you had it in you to side with him,” said Connie, nudging Jean on the shoulder.

“Quit teasing, it’s not like we’re besties you asshole,” scoffed Jean pushing Connie out of the way, and they soon began play fighting.

“Anyways, why do you say that Eren?” asked Armin, completely turning his attention to his best friend and putting the broom away.

“I was passing by the hall… and I heard the Captain singing. Do you know how weird that was? It was a damn love song too. Then he broke something, I think?” replied Eren scratching the back of his head.

“He’s right. The Captain got mad and complained because he broke something his girlfriend wanted,” Jean said shortly after.

Everyone in the dining room widened their eyes at the statement, before they all burst out laughing.

Connie wheezed on the floor, as he patted the two boys on the back shortly after, “Nice joke guys, but seriously? At least come up with something more realistic!” exclaimed Connie.

“I’m not lying! Why don’t you get that?!” asked Eren, completely frustrated that no one believed him, “Even horseface agrees and saw it with his two eyes, isn’t that right Jean??”

“Hate to say it but he’s right- who the hell are you calling horseface you suicidal maniac?!” yelled out Jean, grabbing Eren’s shirt.

Before the two could engage in combat, Mikasa pulled Eren away from Jean, dragging him to stand next to her, “Now isn’t the time to fight you two,” she directed towards the two teenage boys.

“Eren isn’t one to lie, he won't make up some BS. So I believe him, but the question is who would have actually been able to steal Captain Levi’s heart?” asked Armin.

“Erwin?” questioned Sasha.

“Not that there’s anything wrong with it but I highly doubt it. Captain doesn’t even smile at the Commander, he’s more affectionate with Hange than anything.”

“So you believe it’s Hange?” replied Sasha.

“I don’t know? What could you tell us about the gift Eren?” asked Armin.

Eren thought about the statement for a moment and his eyes glanced down at the floor for a brief second, “It couldn’t have been Hange. Captain broke a tea set, we all know Hange doesn’t give a damn about his tea time nor would she be interested in such things, would she?”

“That’s a valid point… Anyone else got any suggestions?”

“What about Petra? She seems to like Captain Levi,” asked Jean, as he thought about the countless times the said girl glanced at Levi in admiration.

“I don’t think he reciprocates those feelings towards her, nor does she like him in that way- it’s more like a role model type of thing, I guess. Plus, isn’t she married to that Oluo guy?” asked Armin.

Sasha shot up her hands, “Ou! Do you think he fell in love with a girl from the village?”

“YEAH! Or what about someone from the scout regiment?” replied Connie.

Before anyone could answer, both Hange and Erwin walked past the dining hall, and the group instinctively stopped their conversations.

“Good afternoon, soldiers. Hurry up and finish what Levi has instructed you. We’re all going out later, so make sure you guys dress nicely.” said Erwin before he left the group.

“Yes sir!” saluted the scouts, and as Erwin left the group everyone’s eyebrows furrowed together, clearly confused as to why they would need to go elsewhere for dinner and for what reason?

Hange noticed the curiosity in their young adolescent features and laughed, “Did you guys forget? The special operation squad is coming back!”

The groups had their mouths hung open, clearly even more confused than ever. Armin being the first one to get over the initial confusion, “Section Commander Hange, I thought we were the special operation squad??”

“Why yes you are!” replied Hange, as she playfully messed up Armin’s hair, “Captain Levi is humanity’s strongest soldier no doubt. But there’s someone who is able to match up to his power and that’s Captain Smith. I like to think she’s stronger than Levi- but you didn’t hear that from me. She and her team are part of a different set of special operation squads for the military. You can’t join that regiment/ squad unless either Pixis or  Erwin recommends you themselves. They do overnight trips outside the walls for long periods of times, amongst other things like scouting the underground and what not. Basically they do all the dirty harder work for us. They had a mission that lasted a couple months outside the walls, and they’re coming back today!!”

“You’re not making any more sense woman!” exclaimed Connie, who was punched in the arm by Sasha.

Eren slowly processed Hange’s words, and the duties of the said Captain Smith triggered Eren’s memories, as he thought about the countless memories and letters they’ve been exchanging.

Recognition became clear to Eren and his eyes lit up in excitement, “Wait! You mean Y/n?!”

“Yeah! She’s coming back from one of the missions Erwin sent her and her squad away for like months! I finally get to see Y/n! I can’t wait to tell her about Sawney and Bean and everything else in my laboratory! So hurry up, I’m sure she would love to meet all of you!” said Hange before skipping away in order to prepare for the arrival of Y/n.

“Who’s Y/n, Eren?” asked Armin.

“She was my babysitter, and she’s the younger adopted sister of Erwin. I remember her telling me that she was found outside of the walls before when she was like four? The commander found her and his dad soon adopted her. Then blah blah fast forward to our age and they enrolled into the scout regiment together. She was also able to bond with my parents, especially my dad for some reason, he was always showing her his medicines. She taught me how to fight too! I haven’t seen her in years, after she became Captain… She’s been so busy I miss her,” admitted Eren.

“I’m sure everyone else does too. I can’t wait to meet her,” shrugged Mikasa, as she listened to her best friend talk about this person he clearly admired. As long as Eren was happy, so was Mikasa, and she was happy to meet one of the individuals that Eren cherished with all his heart.

“Oi! What are you brats doing?! Hurry the fuck up and clean this damn room.” called out a familiar voice, and the teenagers winced once they recognized their captain’s booming voice, “While all you idiots were busy gossiping like the lousy lazy asses you were, I cleaned the rest of the rooms. So that leaves this one, hurry it up because we also got guests coming and a dinner in an hour. I do not want my squad to be tardy, understand?”

“Understood Captain!” smiled Eren, “Do you know if Captain Y/n is coming back to the scout regiment and staying the night?”

Hope was evident on the young boy’s face, as he clearly wanted Y/n to come back in order to catch up. Considering Y/n was like his much older sister, he couldn’t wait to show her his new titan powers and listen to her adventure stories in person once again.

“I don’t know, you can ask Y/n when she comes by later tonight though,” replied Levi quietly, as his voice softened at the mention of Y/n.

Noticing his demeanor fall, he scolded himself internally and turned away from his squadmates, as a faint blush dusted his pale facial features.

Feeling the warmth of his skin, Levi quickly walked out of the room humming that tune he sang previously, but not before yelling, “You brats better fucking hurry up and make sure that damn room is cleaned nicely, or else you all have stable duty for the next three weeks!”

At the tone, the six of them quickly forgot the previous topic they were discussing and made their way back to work.

-

About 30 minutes later, the dining room looked much cleaner and presentable. The rest of the group left to get ready, leaving Eren alone to finish waxing the floor for the second time, as he wanted to impress the Captain and not get stable duty.

During this period, Eren too began to sing a familiar song. As he hit the chorus, his eyes slightly widened and his voice came to an automatic halt, as he heard the ethereal voice he recognized as his favourite babysitter.

Eren looked behind him, and saw you leaning against the door frame, as you sang the words to his favourite lullaby, a love song that you would softly sing to him when he was a baby and child, as you rocked him to sleep.

“Y/n!” Eren yelled out before dropping the mop and running towards you.

You quickly opened your arms, welcoming the boy to embrace you. At this, Eren automatically jumped and latched onto you like a child, his legs wrapping themselves around your small waist.

At the action, you automatically let out a loud laugh. Despite the heavy weight now added onto you due to Eren’s tall state, you were able to stand your ground and carry him with ease, just as you were able to do three to four years ago.

One hand of yours lifted him up, while the other hand rested on his soft brown hair. Out of habit, you slowly began to massage his head, and twirl some of the hair that were resting along the nape of his neck- something that Eren enjoyed ever since he was an infant.

You tried to put him down, but he hasn’t budged. Instead his grip on you tightened. “Eren, get down now before we both fall and we’re late to dinner!” you laughed.

“Nah, I like it up here.”  he said, before he jumped back on the ground, his arms still around you. “I missed you.”

Eren looked like he wanted to cry, and you immediately embraced him. The action made Eren calmer and he relaxed into your embrace, loving the protection and comfort you gave him.

Seeing the tears forming in his eyes, you spoke, “Aw my baby, why are you crying?” you asked ever so lovingly, as you stood on your tiptoes and wiped away the tears threatening to fall.

“So much has happened since you left- and I don’t know, it’s nice seeing that you haven’t left me. One of my family members is still alive. My older sister is alive.”

Your heart softened when Eren claimed you were a part of his family and his sister , despite you not being blood related. “Of course I won’t leave you. I still sent you letters these past couple years, right.  You’re that annoying younger brother who annoyed me so much, but still loved nonetheless.

The two of you laughed and hugged once more.

“Ok seriously Eren, it’s getting late and Erwin wants us to go out to the castle for dinner soon. We have to get ready,” you said as you dragged him out of the dining room, “Nice cleaning by the way, you remind me of someone close to me too,” a smile twitching on your face.

“Oh yeah! In one of your letters you told me you would introduce me to your boyfriend! Who is he?” he asked.

You would have laughed, had the answer been not so painfully obvious. You pushed Eren towards the opposite side of the hall, towards the boys’ barracks. “I’ll introduce you later. Now go clean yourself up!”

The two of you bid goodbye, and Eren once again began humming that lullaby you sang to him when he was younger. Just like last time, his eyes widened slightly as he hit the chorus of the hymn; however, this time it wasn’t because you harmonized with him, but because he realized it was the same song Captain Levi sang prior to breaking the china tea set.

Eren’s eyebrows furrowed slightly, as he contemplated whether it was a mere coincidence or  you were actually dating the captain.

-

Levi wore a black button up, and had his sleeves rolled up to his elbows. He stared at the mirror holding out his cravat and a white tie, contemplating which one suited him better. The cravat you handmade for him, or the white tie you loved so much as it “enhanced his grey-blue eyes.”

Levi shrugged his shoulders and threw the cravat away, considering this was a formal event. The man did have minimal experience wearing ties, unlike Erwin who did business meetings with other high ranking officers on the daily. Therefore, it was no surprise he lacked the knowledge to tie his white tie.

Not wanting to leave you and the whole regiment unimpressed or rely on others, he tried his very best to tie it himself. The poor man looked like he was about to strangle himself and he let out a tch , muttering about how stupid ties were.

“You know, Levi? If you hated ties that much, why don’t you just use one of your cravats?” you asked, watching the scene unfold. The ends of your lips morph into a wide smile, as you watch your boyfriend fail miserably tying his tie.

At the sound of your voice, Levi turned to you and his once annoyed expression diminished. However, a blush rose to his cheeks after he registered your words and the situation you found him in. Clearly the man was embarrassed to have you see him in such a pathetic state.

But that embarrassment soon turned into awe as he stared at you in amazement. Your hair was styled to perfection, framing your bright e/c eyes. The white dress you wore accentuated your lean and fit frame, due to all the excess military training you had to undergo.

You took recognition of the expression on Levi’s face, and smiled. While he was busy admiring your beauty, you began walking towards him and eventually pressed your soft delicate hands on his pale skin, gently caressing it.

Levi closed his eyes at the sensation and smiled softly, as he leaned into your touch before engulfing you in a hug, “I-I m-missed you, so damn much,” spoke Levi quietly.

“I missed you too, brat,” you replied, as you hugged him tighter.

“That’s my line you idiot,” laughed Levi, a genuine laugh filling the halls of the scout regiment.

That one name brought various memories up to his mind including: the happiest ones that left you both jumping for joy, the inadequate ones where you’d scold the other for making a dumb mistake or even the most intimate moments neither of you dared to speak out loud.

“Yeah but I’m your brat, just as you are mine,” you said cheekily.

Levi didn’t say anything as he was once again a blushing mess at your words. Noticing his lack of witty responses, you figured the captain was blushing- no you knew he was a blushing mess as he hid in the crook of your neck and shoulder.

You gently pulled away and took his face in your hands, once again caressing his now crimson cheeks.

“You know, it’s kind of funny how soft you are now- or at least around me. I remember the first time you met me, you absolutely hated my guts and then I realized it was because-”

His eyes widened as he knew exactly where the story was going. He needed to think of a way to shut you up, before he ended up cringing at the words that were to soon leave your mouth.

Levi quickly pressed his lips quickly onto yours, in order to shut you up. “C-can we not talk about that? I’m nice to you now right, let’s not bring up that horrendous occasion.”

“Whatever you want sir,” you replied and let out a loud laugh.

Levi smiled but it quickly faded once he remembered the gift he bought for you, “Y-y/n I- Uhm, I kind of messed up something?”

Your boyfriend was not always a romantic individual, and would often stumble over his words when it came to doing anything related to you at times. That being said, his lack of experience with women and romantic relationships didn’t stop him from attempting to surprise you.

Afterall, you two were best friends before anything happened, and thus the two of you were rather comfortable with one another during various situations.

Your eyebrows furrowed in confusion, and you took his hands in yours, as you traced small circles onto his skin, “I’m the last person to judge you, talk to me. I promise I’ll listen and help you with whatever you supposedly ‘messed’ up on.”

Your words brought a sense of comfort to Levi and he took a deep breath, “Remember before you left for that stupid long ass mission? We went to the village and you found this limited tea set, and you said you wanted it? W-well I bought it for you… but it ended up breaking…”

Levi’s words drifted and you couldn’t help but smile, “You thought I would be mad about that? I’m flattered you bought it for me, but don’t worry we can try fixing it together too, alright? Or better yet we can make our own tea set. All those months outside of the walls and I think I learned a thing or two.”

“Whatever you want, brat. Thank you.”

“No, thank you my love,” you said and smiled at him.

Levi rolled his eyes at the nickname and pulled out the tie that he tucked away in his pocket, as he handed it to you, silently pleading for your assistance.

You took the tie and effortlessly tied it in a matter of seconds, tightening the garment and pulling up the knot. “There, now you even look more beautiful than you did a few seconds prior.”

“And you’re just as pretty as you were since I last saw you several months ago,” replied Levi quietly.

The captain was not one to give out compliments, but for you he’d make countless exceptions especially when the two of you were alone in isolated parameters.

At the compliment you grabbed onto the tie and pressed Levi’s lips towards yours, while one of your hands entangled itself into his hair.

Levi’s eyes widened and once he registered what was happening he immediately kissed back, missing the blissful feeling that washed over him when the two of you were together. After Levi got over the initial shock, his hands gripped your waist, letting his fingers linger on the soft fabric covering your body.

Before things could escalate any further, the two of you pulled away at the sound of a door knocking, and you detached yourselves from one another. Immediately, the two of you cooled down your breathing and wiped your lips, in order to avoid suspicion.

Afterall, only a few people in the regiment knew the two of you were together, that consisted of your best friends. It was kind of funny sneaking around with one another when the opportunity arose.

That and also you knew Levi wasn’t always the most comfortable with PDA nor people asking about his emotions. So it was safer to keep your relationship in the shadows to avoid such speculation.

Therefore, you decided to walk towards the couch, in hopes of looking like the two of you were merely chatting about business related issues. Levi smiled at you before clearing his throat and answering, “Name and state your reason.”

“Eren, sir!”

Levi let out a loud sigh and pinched his eyebrows, “Come in Yeager.”

Eren automatically walked in, and he was welcomed with the cold gaze of the captain.

“What is it that you want, Eren?” asked Levi in a bored tone.

Eren winced at his voice, seeing as how it was probably a bad time to interrupt. “Uhm… Commander Erwin said we were leaving in a few minutes and told me to come get you. He said his sister, Y/n should be here too... “ trailed Eren as his eyes scanned the room, searching for you.

Before Levi could respond, Eren began walking towards you with a tie in his hands.

“Let me guess, four years later and you still can’t tie one, Eren?” you asked, a playful smile on your face.

Eren scratched the back of his head and handed you his tie, “Please?”

“You haven’t changed one bit, you know?” you said, tying his tie, “Just saying, if you asked Mikasa she probably would have helped you, and learned how to tie one for your sake.”

Although you never met Mikasa, you knew Eren had a small crush on her- even if he did show it in the most unruly of ways.

When you babysat the young Yeager all those years ago, his eyes constantly lit up as he spoke about this pretty girl that was able to beat up his best friend’s bullies. It wasn’t that hard for you to see his emotions, especially since he practically trusted you with his whole life. Plus, the gossip you heard from Pixis during their time at training- you assumed it was safe to say Eren’s feelings were reciprocated.

At your words, Eren blushed. “Don’t say crap like that Y/n,”

“Hey, I’m just saying!” you exclaimed.

Levi watched the interaction between the both of you and smiled. Whether or not he liked to admit it, he was whipped as hell, and deeply in love.

Watching you interact with children just proved that. Eren noticed the calmness that radiated off of his captain from the corner of his eyes, and wondered if he really should ask about his current hypothesis.

Not wanting to ask the captain due to fear, Eren leaned into your ears and whispered, “You said you would introduce me to your boyfriend, remember?”

“I remember,” you replied and held his face with your hand, slowly moving it to face the direction of his captain.

Levi raised an eyebrow in question, as to what the two of you were quietly discussing amongst yourselves.

Eren shaked his head, and engulfed you in a hug, “I don’t know what you see in him, but I’m happy that you are.”

“I ask myself that sometimes too, but at the same time I see a lot that you people don’t. I’ll ask him to be nicer,” you said as you let go of Eren, turning your attention to your boyfriend, “Won’t you Levi? You’ll be nicer and start smiling more. I don’t want my favourite kid to face your wrath.”

“Fine.” said Levi automatically, his face remaining neutral as he spoke out towards the two of you. “Oh and Eren, do not tell a single soul about this, alright?”

To Eren, the captain probably looked impassive at the current situation, but you could clearly tell he was hiding that faint smile. You knew he too, cared deeply about Eren, and if it weren’t for the young boy currently residing in the room, he would have shown his perfect set of teeth.

“Y-yes Captain, sir!” saluted Eren, and you once again laughed out loud at his antics.

Eren looked uneasy about his next choice of words, but he still managed to hold Levi’s gaze,

“B-but don’t break her heart, Captain Levi or I’ll go all titan on you.”

You smiled at the words that left the young boy’s mouth. Even after all these years, Eren hasn’t changed, as he would still go to great lengths in order to keep those he cared about safe, even if it meant going up against a stronger opponent.

Levi scoffed at his words, but easily hid the smile that was trying to form on his lips, “I’d like to see you try.”

“Levi, don’t you dare hurt him or else... “

“Yes ma’am,” replied Levi, and Eren bursted out laughing seeing his captain act rather submissive and willingly obliged to someone other than Erwin.

“Good, now come on you two,” you said holding each of their hands, “We got a dinner party to go to!”

And with that you dragged your two favourite boys out of the room and onto the carriages Erwin currently rented out for the whole squad.

A chandelier stood in the middle of the room glistening in the well dimmed dining hall, and added a sort of elegance to the fancy dinner that was being held at the palace.

The dining room was dimly lit and provided a peaceful yet extravagant environment. Various candles were placed in the middle of each table, giving off a sweet aroma.

The dinner was a celebratory event for being able to cover the wall, and the return of your special operation squad. Each regiment was invited to celebrate this momentous occasion, and the room was soon filled with the chatter of various individuals, as they began to eat their prestigious fancy foods.

Near the corner of the room, sat the new members of squad Levi: Sasha, Jean, Connie, Eren, Armin and Mikasa.

“Sooo…. I say we make a bet, as to who Captain Levi’s new girlfriend is. Whoever wins gets all of our dessert,” said Connie.

A quick chorus of yes was shortly followed and everyone began to bet.

“Get ready, because I am going to win,” replied Sasha, practically drooling at the thought of the sweet savoury desserts, “I will do anything to win,”

“What happens if it’s a tie though?” asked Armin.

“Then we think of another thing, but that’s a problem for later.” shrugged Connie.

“Alright, let’s bet then,”

Eren smirked slightly knowing he had a higher advantage. Armin noticed the expression his best friend was wearing, but didn’t dare to question what he was up to.

“It’s definitely Erwin. I mean who else does Captain Levi obey?” said Sasha.

“Sorry Sash, I gotta say Hange. The interaction between those two is hilarious and they fight like an old married couple.” admitted Connie

“Petra, you can’t tell me she is not whipped for the captain. Plus, Oluo basically tries and acts like our captain, it’s kind of funny. He might be doing that because he knows Petra likes Captain Levi,” said Jean full of confidence, as he leaned back into the chair.

“I agree with Jean, to be honest,” said Mikasa, not even glancing at Jean’s direction who was supposedly a blushing mess at the moment, and soon toppled over his chair.

Eren ended up laughing and simply said, “Y/n.”

“Who’s that again? Eren you can’t just say the name of a random person,” said Sasha.

“I agree with Eren,” admitted Armin, and Eren just shrugged at the response, “So how do we figure out who’s right then?”

“Why don’t we just ask the captain?” asked Connie.

“Are you dumb?!” retorted Sasha, as she put the utensils she was previously using to cut her steak and smacked the back of Connie’s head, “You want to ask the captain that?? I highly doubt he would tell us.”

“Why don’t we just spy on him?” asked Mikasa.

Everyone thought about the idea before nodding their head, and their eyes scanned the room for their captain.

Within a 20 feet radius was their captain, Erwin, Hange and some girl at the bar. The four of them talking amongst themselves and smiling.

“So who’s the new girl?” asked Jean, as he admired her beauty, “She’s really pretty. Is she a part of the MP? If so… damn I really should have joined.”

Eren stayed silent, not wanting anyone to know your name at the moment.

The group watched the interaction and soon noticed Petra coming up to Captain Levi.

“Sucks you idiots, I win.” smirked Jean, as he held out his hands, “Come on pass your bowls, because I’ll be receiving your dessert within the next 15 minutes.”

“That interaction doesn’t mean shit Jean!” said Eren, as he continued watching Petra who automatically hugged you and whispered something in your ear. Petra then took the hands of Levi, as she led him out to the garden. Levi followed, but not before whispering something into your ear.

At the scene, Eren could feel his blood boiling. ‘Why would she take him away from her? And why was he so quick to follow her out? Is he cheating on her?’ thought Eren.

“Come on, let’s follow them.” said Mikasa, as she pulled up Eren, dragging him behind her. Everyone then began following the two who led the way towards the garden.

-

The sky illuminated the garden, along with all the fireflies that were circling the colourful flowers that were to bloom in the next couple of weeks.

In the middle of the garden, was a large fountain, and a bench right across from it. Petra guided Levi towards the bench, advising him to sit down.

As Levi sat, his eyes drifted towards the fountain. The only sound being heard was the echoing streams of water being poured onto the bottom of the fountain.

“Here Captain,” said Petra as she handed him a small square box, “I bought it, it should fit her considering she sometimes uses my rings when we’re out.”

“Thank you… Petra. I appreciate it.” said Levi softly, his fingers trailing the velvet box.

“Captain… Please don’t hurt her. She’s my best friend here, and I would hate to have something bad happen to her.” spoke Petra, and her eyes widened, “T-that’s not me saying that you’re a terrible boyfriend it’s just that-”

“Relax Petra, I won’t do that to her… she means a lot to me,” replied Levi, as he smiled thinking about you.

“Then good, because here she comes,” Petra said, standing up from the bench and waving for you to come over, “I’ll give the two of you some space.”

You and Petra automatically exchanged a hug before you came to Levi, sitting right beside him.

“So what did I miss? Or more importantly what did you and my best friend discuss?” you asked, a smile spreading on your face. “Let me guess? She interrogated you?”

“No… not necessarily?”

“Take all the time you need. I’m here when you’re ready to talk about it,” you replied back.

You trusted Levi with your whole heart, but you were nosey and wanted to know what Petra said to him while they were out, considering she kept teasing you as you two hugged. However, you weren’t one to pry Levi for information. You were there to listen whenever he felt comfortable with you, and that is something he loved greatly about you.

“.... That’s one of the reasons why I l-love you,” said Levi, before he paused and took out the ring showing it to you, “You’re there for me when I need you the most. You’re willing to listen and provide me with space. Even when I can’t find the words to talk about my problems or vent at the moment, you’re there giving me comfort and reassurance. A-and you’re really good at being a scout and a military officer, you’re also pretty and I can go on… I’m just glad you’re mine.” said Levi who was now absolutely red, and holding your hand.

“I love you too, Levi. You wanted me to come out all the way here just to say that?”

“I really just wanted you to myself, away from everyone.” admitted Levi, who was looking down at both of your hands.

“Well, I’m glad that you did pull me away, I could only listen to so much of Hange’s experiments. Erwin literally looked so bored, but he tried to seem interested for Hange’s sake, providing input whenever he could. It was pretty funny.” you stated and the both of you laughed.

“I’m glad that you’re having fun… Also I had a gift for you. It wasn’t only the tea set I got you… it was this, that’s why I asked Petra for help…” said Levi as he handed you the box, silently telling you to open it.

Gently opening the box, your eyes scanned over the ring. It was a small gold ring that had two circles being intertwined. Within that circle was a small white gem that looked like a heart.

Your hands flew towards your mouth, and tears began brimming the inner corner of your eyes.

Levi panicked and assumed you hated the gift, considering he was an overthinker and you were now crying.

Seeing his worried expression, you just laughed and put the ring on your ring finger. “I love it, thank you, Levi,” you said genuinely.

“It’s a promise ring… I promise that I’m always going to fight alongside you. Whether that’s in person… or not. And I promise to love you unconditionally.” promised Levi, “I know I can’t promise you that I won’t die, and you can’t either. But I promise to try to stay alive…. Because m-maybe one day when all this is done, we can grow older together and m-maybe get married .... if you’d let me or want to be with me ....”

You were left speechless. You tried to speak on several accounts, but you weren’t able to form coherent sentences. But where your words failed, your actions took over.

Your hands traced Levi’s lips and you closed the gap between the both of you. Both of you smiled into the kiss, due to the sensation you both felt as your lips collided with one another, and to the loud cheering you heard across from you.

“Sucks losers, I WIN!” you heard Eren yell, as the two of you pulled away.

“Eren shut up, before either of them hear you!” yelled Armin, “And for the record if you won, so did I.”

“Yeah! She never said her name yet?!” yelled out Sasha

Eren rolled his eyes.

Levi’s smile vanished for a brief second as he glared at his squad mates. The group looked down shamefully for being caught and quickly attempted to disbandon and run away, but were then stopped when they heard the voice of the captain. “Oi! Come back here you brats!”

Not wanting to be yelled at anymore, they sprinted towards their captain and gave a salut.

“Tomorrow we will wake up early. Captain Y/n will be training you guys and helping you guys in combat, because we all know you brats need it.”

“Understood sir!”

“So… who is Captain Y/n?” asked Connie.

Before Eren or Levi could open their mouths, you smiled, “Sup, I’m Captain Y/n. Nice to meet you. I’m not as bad as Levi when it comes to training, but I hope you all can keep up.”

Everyone’s eyes widened slightly in fear, as they remembered how highly Hange spoke of you. To them, you seemed to be a deadly war machine; thus they didn’t know whether to stare at you in awe or hide due to your future wrath.

Eren on the other hand looked excited to learn from you again, and Mikasa looked unfazed by the situation.

“0520 wake up, so make sure you get a good night's sleep ‘till then. Breakfast comes after you guys are done my warm up practices,” you smiled, and they all groaned.

You laughed at their antics, and Levi just shook his head.

“Oh and you guys better be quiet about this? Understand. You can’t tell anyone, and I’m specifically looking at you Springer and Blouse, keep your mouths shut.” said Levi, as the group began walking back into the dining hall.

They all muttered out a quick yes, Sasha and Connie looking appalled that their Captain had such little faith in them in preserving a secret.

“Come on, we should go back too, Captain,” you said, a teasing smile on your face.

Instead, Levi pulled you back further into the garden and the two of you just laid there on the grass admiring the stars. “We can go back later. For now, let’s just stay here and enjoy the view before someone comes and interrupts us, again.”

“Whatever you want,” you said and cuddled Levi against the grass.

It was moments like these that neither of you wanted to escape from. Life within Paradis was both brutal and chaotic due to all the titans that surrounded the walls. It left the both of you on edge, as you both constantly worried about the other’s safety. But at this current moment, you were glad to be enveloped in the warmth of your significant other.

It was then that you realized, your home wasn’t necessarily Paradis but Levi. And the man currently hugging, you felt the exact same.
