eye have a problem with this

Summary:

Cube finds a way to deal with a slight oversight he made a while back, and IDKnows helps him

Work Text:

Cube felt a wave of paranoia hit him, and that was when he knew he had to find a way out of this conversation. He couldn't just cut off IDKnows, though. At a lower point in the conversation, as Cube started seeing a bit too many worlds, he said a quick "I have something to do, bye" and frantically booked it away, closing his single purple eye and running off. He may have ran into a building or two, but he still continued to run.

He ran until he was able to find somewhere isolated, away from everyone so he could deal with this on his own.

That's how he ended up in the therapy room that 4C originally made for Reddoons. It was a nice little isolated area away from everyone, and then he could properly deal with the curse of having a Watcher's eye.

He didn't regret making that deal of course, it let him finally see the world instead of blindly running around. But, days like these made the tiniest bit of regret seep into his brain.

When he properly opened his eye, he saw a world corrupting, however, he was in a specific area. The rainbow sign in front of him, covered in what he could tell was made up of glow lichen, crying obsidian, and tuff. The words under the sign itself was just barely visible, but he could read the words Ivy Grove.

Cube felt a rush of fear hit him as he observed the blue furred creature he was next to stare up at the sign. The creature's tail swayed slightly, their lab coat slightly torn and sculk covering them head to feet- paws? They didn't have feet technically- one of their eyes was covered by a pink bit of their hair. They sighed as they stared up at the sign. "I don't know, my friend. I don't know if we can even save this world."

Cube was torn out of that by a hand on his shoulder. His eye shifted its way to the back of his head, causing the person to remove their hand in shock.

"Cube- I just wanted to check up on you, since you did not seem to be doing okay when you scampered off," IDK replied. His hands were up in defense, he also had faint purple wings that's feathers puffed up. "Didn't mean to scare you."

Cube just nodded, eye properly rotating to the proper place on his head. He stood up- when did he sit down?- to look at IDK. "Uh, don't worry about it." Cube chuckled out, trying his best to avoid eye contact with IDK.

"Cube, this is the place to talk if you need to," he chuckled out. "Now, I know something isn't okay, you can't talk about it, I won't share anything with people."

Cube nodded, a bit hesitant, but the feeling that IDK would understand pushed him to say what he wanted to. "I made a deal- a while back, mind you- and that deal let me be able to see. A Watcher- I don't remember their name- gave me one of the many eyes they had. Occasionally now I see this place, but also some things I would rather not see," Cube explained. "I get a rush of paranoia when something is about to happen, so that's why I tried my best to get out of the conversation."

Cube did notice the look on IDK's face when he mentioned the deal he made. The look of confusion, then anger, then annoyance. Eventually, the single thing that set Cube off was what IDK said in response. "You need to get rid of that eye."

Cube had never seen IDK so… mad? Annoyed? The expression was hard to read but the faint wings became more visible, various shades of purple were vibrant. It made IDK seem like a… a threat. Someone to not be taken lightly. "But- it is my only way to see."

"I can fix that, but get rid of that eye," he replied. His voice was scarily monotone, far from what Cube was used to.

"I don't know how-"

"Then let me do it."

Next thing Cube knew was a sharp pain where his eye once was, he let out a small yelp in response. He was plunged into complete darkness.

"Now, take a deep breath in." IDK told him, not giving Cube much of a choice in the matter.

When he breathed out, it was like a flash of colour whirled to life, he could see again. What he saw in front of him was something he wasn't used to, however.

IDK had a set of large, purple wings on his back, and a few hundred eyes- all varying in sizes- surrounding the pair.

"What-"

"I replaced your eye, since Watchers normally shouldn't give out their eyes to just anyone, especially if they are on duty constantly," IDK explained. The puzzle gave the man a confused look. "You don't need to worry about it much more than that."

Cube nodded- hesitantly mind you, but nodded nonetheless- and a question came to mind. "Are you a Watcher?"

"Yeah, I am. But I'm not on duty for a while," he replied. "Do you want to stay in here a bit longer or-"

"No, I would rather leave and get back to our decision before uh, y'know." Cube gestured at nothing in particular.

IDK nodded, and not even a second later he was back to his mostly normal self, the faint wings still there. The pair left the room, but leaving a purple and lime green candle behind in place of two candles, a red and a blue one.
