Work Text:

In no time at all, the retrieval team was back on the ship with the littlest member of the clown brigade in tow. All and all, the mission was a complete success.

Yet as the team's medic watched the largest clown struggle to stand on her own feet as they entered the medbay, their medic doubted whether coming back unharmed was ever a part of the definition of a ‘complete success.’

I promise, B. I’m always careful, B. You worry too much, B.

Oh yes, she had nothing to worry about. Especially not when her partner comes back looking as if she'd been hit by a *god damn train.* And knowing them, it probably wasn’t far off from what happened.

But the medic bit her tongue, pushing back her own frustration to focus on the matters at hand. Hastily, she made her way across the medbay, gesturing to the others to deposit the larger clown onto one of the medical beds. And as she took her girlfriend’s side, the medic was left even more baffled than before.

The clown herself looked completely out of it, blond curls clinging to sickly pale skin from the amount of sweat that dripped off her. Dust and debris seemed to cling to the clowns' tattered and ripped overalls, evidence of whatever had transpired at the vampire castle. If not for her own concern for Big J’s wellbeing (and for the fact that said clown most likely was not even fully cognizant to hear it). Big J would have received an earful by now.

She turned to the more “responsible” of the trio looking for answers and, fortunately for her, he picked up what she was putting down.

“The monsters threw LJ off the side of the bridge and J went after her.”

She waited for him to continue, even gesturing for him to continue, but he just shrugged in response.

“Do you... not know what happened?”

“Nope. “

With a tired huff, the medic gave the captain an exasperated look before looking down at the small curly cue in his arms. Her countenance softened considerably with Little J, her voice losing its tension as she spoke.

“Do you remember what happened, LJ? When Big J went after you?”

The small curly cue nodded eagerly at the medic, “Mhm! J used her legs to stop us from falling. She-she kicked the castle!”

Well... that would do it alright.

A glance over the Captain’s shoulder and a nod had the waiting nurse coming forward, “You two will go with the nurses and get checked over. I’ll be with Big J-“

“-Is J going to be, okay?” the smallest J asked, worry evident not only in her voice but in the tiny fists that clutched onto her older brother.

With a nod and a smile, the medic reassured the little one, “Big J will be just fine. She’ll need to rest for a bit but with some magic she’ll be feeling much better.”

With that, the other nurses took the two Js away, pulling the separation curtain closed, and allowing the medic to get to work.

The air within the medbay had become stifling with creating small beads of sweat that rolled down the medic’s forehead.

Sparks of neon blue danced across pale white skin where marred bruises and cuts that slowly healed within the expanse of light. The blue electricity licked the air as magic steadily fed into J’s fractured body. Slowly but surely, Bea could feel bone and tissue move with the magic’s influence.

The pelvis had been one of the more severe injuries her partner had sustained from her stunt. All together, she had fractured her hip, shattered her ankle, and gained multiple hairline fractures throughout her lower half. It was no surprise to her that J couldn’t hold herself up when the others had brought her in.

Glancing away from J’s hips, Bea took in her partner’s face, which had become a stark difference from when she first entered. No longer was her face pulled into a tight grimace, but instead laid peaceful and relaxed. Her hurried short breaths were replaced with soft snores. To anyone else, J looked as if she had fallen asleep in the medbay.

With a soft breath, the medic turned back to her work, pressing both of her hands gently into her partner’s skin.

“Just a little bit more...” she whispered, focusing on the warmth that rolled through her body. Bea could feel the gradual shift of J’s pelvis until the bones finally snapped back into place.  A sharp hiss escaped from J, her body tensing at the pain from the sudden shifting of bones.

Dropping one of her hands, Bea gently squeezed her partner’s knee, “We’re almost there, Hun. I’ve got you.”

Just as promised, once she was sure both bone and sinew were fully mended, she pulled away. The light of her magic quickly dissipated through air and skin, the air quickly turning frigid with the absence of magic.

Having finished, Bea began to pull down J’s gown over her hips before pulling the drape up to her chest. Only for a large hand to stop her.

Looking up, familiar yellow eyes greeted her with a smile. She met it with her own tired one,  letting go of the drape in favor of brushing hair away from her partner's face.

"How you feelin'?"

The larger clown huffed, "Better than you will be, that's for damn sure."

It was true. Already, Bea could feel the exhaustion and shivers take hold of her body. Despite her nurses' suggestions, she worked for three or so hours straight on J. But just like her partner, she could never rest until the mission was done. Sadly, all of they were both stubborn as hell.

Bea shrugged, "I'll be fine after a hot shower and a nap. It's n-nothing I haven't done before."

Despite trying to fight off the cold, Bea shivered as she spoke. J frowned, her hand cupping around Bea's.

"You shouldn't be pushing yourself like this for me. You know what it does to you."

Bea didn't even try to hold back the eye roll at that hypocrisy.

"Says the woman who knows better than to go jumping into buildings."

That had shut down any of the blonde's arguments dead in their tracks. Her disgruntled look making Bea chuckle. The medic smiled running her thumb over J's cheek.

"You're allowed to worry over your sister just as much as I am allowed to worry over my girlfriend."

At that, J's eyes softened, her head turning to the side to press a kiss into Bea's palm. Warmth sparking from her palm. The two smiled at each other.

"Everyone else, okay?" J asked, her gaze shifting to the other beds in the room, only to find them empty.

Bea nodded, "Yeah, just superficial scratches and bruises. J and J checked out hours ago, most. Most of everyone is resting now."

J nodded, mulling over this information. And as if a light bulb popped over her head, a mischievous smile grew over her face.

"Leaves us some alone time to get you warmed up, huh?"

At that, Bea pulled her hand away from J, a deadpan taking over her face.

"I just spent the last three hours using my magic on you. I'm exhausted and cold... I'm going to bed."

Standing up, Bea turned to walk out the room leaving Big J struggling to pull on her overalls.

"W-wait, Hold on! I meant for us to cuddle!"

Notes:

Made this a WHILE ago and thought why not post it.
I love the J's and especially Big J. She definitely deserves an exasperated magic using doctor girlfriend.
