Chapter 1: The Night He Found Them

Chapter Text

Warning mentions of blood and death. Yada yada.

Giyuu climbed up the mountain wind blowing in his face. It was hard to see with the snow flying around but he had to make it to the house and protect it because it was his mission. He used her katan to move snow out of his face but it did nothing. He finally made it to the house. But it was too late. He smelled a strong scent of blood. When he arrived he saw a boy holding his younger brother protecting him. Both were dead. He checked their pulses twice hoping he was wrong. But he wasn't. He went inside. A little girl hanged from the ceiling her organs seemed to be replaced with the bloody air. From what looks like her twin our in the corner, he was crumpled up and broken. There was a mother, hands palming the wall breaking through and getting stuck. The skin of her back was completely gone. Her head was facing his, eyes lifeless. It was obvious he was too late. Out of respect he started burying the bodies. He started with the children. He spotted a previous grave the said, Tanjuro Kamado. He assumed that was the father. So he buried the children around him. He went back inside. When he moved the mother's lifeless body, hands still attached somehow after he removed them from the wall, he found something that shocked him Two children. Around the ages 5 and 6. 2 small children sitting there unharmed, except the boy who was slightly bleeding along with the girl whose tongue looked like it was missing. These two children had survived. They were somehow still alive and hardly injured! He couldn't believe it. He went and hurried to bury the mother. He gave the family a quick prayer asking for them to rest in peace. He then picked up the sleeping children and moved them to the village to see a doctor. It was a f*cking miracle.

The doctor took great care of the Kamado siblings. Thanks to the doctor he got their names because they had been there before. Tanjiro and Nezuko were the names. According to the doctor they would be alright. Tanjiro would be left with a scar and Nezuko's tongue was farther back due to her biting habit. He offered a dog's chew toy and Giyuu was offended. He said no to Nezuko having that. Nezuko wasn't a dog. "You know the village has an orphanage. They can go there, since you probably don't have the time to take care of them." The doctor says.

That probably would be best. I never know when I won't be coming back on a mission. Plus I don't even know how to raise kids. He thought to himself. He looked at the two children sleeping. They looked so helpless. He felt the urge to protect them. Like he couldn't leave them behind. He had to keep them. Like they were his family. "No. They won't go to the orphanage. They will go home with me. I have an estate. It is big enough for them and it will be safe for them." Giyuu says. He will get the Kakushi to watch him when he goes on his missions but he would do his damn best to look after them. He swears upon his life. Well maybe the other Hashira lives. His life was worth cowshit.

The doctor stared at the man. Almost like he wanted to convince to leave the kids at the orphanage but doesn't say a word. "Alright. I will get the adoption papers. What is your name anyway?" He asked.

"Tomioka Giyuu." He says.

"I can see you are a protector of something. That's why you have the sword. A nice stable job by the looks of your condition. However I have my doubts. I don't like you. Let's get that clear." He says.

"I figured you wouldn't like me. Rumors of you leaving children at the orphanage. They are known to abuse their children and everytime you bring them a student they pay you generously. That's how you are the only one who wear these expensive clothes along with the owners. You don't like that I am not letting you take the children there." The water pillar said.

"Damn you. Now that you the secret I guess, I have no choice." The doctor pulls out a knife.

Giyuu laughs and pulls out his Katana and points it at the doctor. "Listen here you f*cker, I won't let you sell anymore children. If I get one more rumor of you selling children to that orphanage, I will end you. I have already dealt with the orphanage. The kids each have found a home." He says glaring at the man.

"W-When did you do that?"

"A while ago. Now please stop injecting those kids with that drug please." He says with a scary smile. He watched Shinobu give that smile hundreds of times. This was his first attempt and well. Let's just say he surpassed her. The doctor removed the equipment he equipped with the kids. "I only just realized that. It's different than my doctor's medicine she injects in her patients. Try to be less stupid. Plus they didn't need that from what you told me." He picked up the two kids who were sleeping.

He took the train. One Kyojuro was banned from the train by Tengen for some reason. He didn't understand why he was to be banned. Almost as if you would think if he got on the Mugen train it might lead to his death. He sets the kids down and tucks them in. When they wake they are confused. "Who are you mister? Where are we going? Where is Mama?" Tanjiro asked.

"I-I-I have to tell you something." He says. "First I am Giyuu Tomioka. I am what is called a Demon Slayer, Rank Pillar. The strongest rank of demon slaying. I don't deserve the title. You see there are demons that eat humans. A demon killed your family. You and sister were the only survivors because your mother saved you as she died, and I couldn't get there fast enough. I am sorry. If I was faster and stronger than your family would probably be alive." He says.

"Don't say that." The boy said. "We probably would have died of stravation if you left us there or thought we were dead we would have been buried alive! Besides it was our fault...." He said.

"It isn't your fault for surviving-"

"I'm not talking about survivors' guilt! Our mom constantly tells us not to invite strangers or talk to them! But we saw this man who look like he was in pain. He had black hair and red eyes! He said his name was Kitbutsuji Muzan! He attacked our family because we brought him to our house. We are the reason our family is dead." He said sadly. Giyuu hugged him not knowing what else to do.

"You are only a child. It wasn't your fault for that mistake. He probably made it to your house anyway if I didn't show up. I promise its not your fault. You two are just kind souls. Ones that should be preserved." Giyuu told the boy as he cried into chest. Nezuko was biting her lips til it bleed. After Tanjiro fell asleep he knocked her out and put a muzzle on her so she wouldn't hurt herself.

Later he found Tanjiro had been awake but didn't have the bravery to open his eyes. Plus his stuffy nose cleared up and he could only smell kindness from the man. Once Giyuu carried them to the bed he started to cook a meal for the two. He may sure if was soft food because Nezuko's biting habit. He would need to work with her on that. But everything was gonna be okay. Or so he hopes.

Was this a good first chapter? I hope so. I wished to get it to 1,000,000 chapters. A pathetic goal I know and probably won't be able to but I will try my damn hardest. I GOT THIS!!
