Chapter Text

Alone.

Just how the wraith always preferred it.

The phantom rarely wanted long social contact or the mere presence of another human, he always enjoyed peace and quiet doing something that could distract the raging flowing mess of his mind- which was why exactly in this moment, Omen sat in a secluded area in the small lounge next to the kitchen, it was the afternoon meaning most of the other agents would either be , 1. In their own areas doing whatever to pass time, 2. Out on a mission stopping the plans of their radiant counterparts, 3. Resting in the other much bigger lounge that the base held as it was much more comfortable and had softer couches.

Whichever option it was, Omen was more than content with the old dusty sofas of the space which he sat now.

The quiet clicking of his knitting needles allowing the phantom to finally rest his mind and focus on the task rather than to seclude his conscious to the mess of his mind. His mind , a part of himself Omen hated most as it confused him. He would never feel a single emotion, it would always be fragments. fragments of happiness, or sadness, anger or guilt- and the most annoying thing was that it was never fragments of what the shadow felt in his current reality. It always had to be something the shadow felt in his past life, fragments of guilt the wraith had for past regrets, or fragments of joy the wraith had of past happy moments. Either way, it always swelled into a confusing mass crowding Omen's mind both all day and night.

Knitting was an escape, a way Omen could surprisingly forget all this and focus on the pattern of the thing he was making or simply the miniscule noise the needles created as they hit each other.

But alas, the quiet the phantom yearned for never lasted long,

in barged the very last person the wraith wanted to see, Phoenix . The shadow and fire bird were like polar opposites, Omen hated social life whilst Phoenix relished in it. Omen stayed clear of people whilst Phoenix ran straight towards them. And right now? The eager man was walking straight towards the wraith, his usual cheery grin plastered on his face and energetic hop in his step. Omen could only watch in pure dread as the younger man flopped beside him on the old sofa and watched intently at what the phantom was doing.

"Hey Omen I respect a guy who knits, that's pretty cute."

The firebird's voice teased, a smug grin spread across his face,

"It helps me focus.. Oh what do you care?!"

The wraith growled as he placed his knitting equipment aside and let out a defeated sigh. Phoenix's smug expression suddenly dropped as he threw his hands up in a surrendering matter,

"Wait-wait man it just banter- don't have to stop 'cus me you can continue yeah?"

The three blue slits that represented the wraith's lost eyes narrowed as the phantom raised his head towards the other.

"I'll be unable to focus on my knitting with your chatter so I'll just stop and listen to your nonsense.."

The shadow replied leaving the firebird to furrow his brow,

"I'm not that distracting!"

The younger man protested, The wraith scoffed before continuing.

"Trust me you are Phoenix. Especially with your random questions.."

He leaned back Into the dusty pillow of the sofa, crossing his arms in the process, phoenix on the other hand, had his jaw wide open, as if statement was ground breaking.

"No way! Fine! You want crazy questions? i'll ask you one  right now bruv."

The fire bird thought for a minute before opening his mouth,

"Okay mister shadow ghost guy, tell me this, have you ever kissed someone?"

The younger mans tone was teasing but the wraith didn't react, infact, Omen thought for a second,

“...”

"Sort o-"

"WHAT?!!"

The man was suddenly interrupted.

"Fam what do you mean you sort of kissed somebody- who was it?!"

The young man practically leaped from where he previously sat, waving his arms crazily in the air,

"Quiet down Phoenix and let me explain."

The Phantom practically hissed at the frantic other.

"It wasn't someone is was something ."

The wraith fiddled with his clawed hands, feeling a small sense of embarrassment.

"It.."

His voice trailed off, earing a expression from Phoenix to carry on,

"It was a cat.."

The phantom's voice crumbled as he placed his shadowing face into his palms.

"Oh."

"My."

"God"

"Omen mate you're such a softie!!" Phoenix cackled as he fell back onto his spot on the sofa, laughing uncontrollably. Omen on the other hand had tugged his hood further down.

" Shut up.. "

Omen got up to teleport away, he was done with the whole conversation and rathered he was in his room, all the wraith wanted to do now was sulk the rest of the day- knowing Phoenix would annoyingly bring up the conversation again.

“wAIT!- Wait!”

The phantom paused as he turned around, the three slits glowing on his face narrowing into a glare. Phoenix had stopped his banter and was now muttering an apology though to be frank it was mostly undecipherable due to the Brit’s giggles. The wraith sighed. God this man exhausted him but to this point it was numbing so he prompted to fall back into his prior spot on the sofa, making a little thud as he did it.

“Hey Omen mate can ask you somethin?”

“Questions seem to be your running gig Phoenix,” The wraith sighed, “Ask away…”

The younger man furrowed his brows in protest until he piped up again,”

“How exactly did you kiss the cat?”

“...”

“What?”

The hooded head of the phantom was now fully turned towards the firebird, attempting to find any reasoning or intention for the question via the Brit’s expression.

“Uhhh ya’know-”

The younger man scratched at the back of his neck- a thing omen noticed the firebird did when he was troubled. Phoenix’s gaze had completely faltered from the wraith’s “face” and now was placed upon a specific speck of dust on the sofa.

“D’you have a hidden mouth? Cus I dont really-”

“It’s not hidden .”

Phoenix now returned his gaze towards the shadow, noticing his voice was different. The phantom clenched his claws into his gloved palms.

“I don’t have a mouth, Phoenix.”

The wraith’s clutch tightened.

“Wha? You don’t? But how do you eat?”

The firebird’s expression of nervousness was now washed over with confusion.

“Simple.”

“I don’t.”

This part was a slight lie on the wraith’s side, he could eat in some weird way but it was never normal like the other agents did, whatever the wraith ate it sort of fazed into the void hidden beneath his hood, never to be seen again. Omen disliked the act anyway, whenever he “ate” it left him feeling weird and sick, it didn't seem important to his health and the wraith could care less for his own well being either way so why did it matter?

The phantom looked up towards the expression of the Brit opposite him, a puzzled look dawning Phoenix’s face.

“But mate thats not normal humans can only surv-”

and like a twig, something snapped within the wraith.

FOR FUCKS SAKE I AM NOT A HUMAN PHOENIX!”

Phoenix flinched at the sudden aggression of the phantom, who was now standing up, fists clenched-the three slits glowing more madly than ever. There was a silence between the two before the hooded man sat back down, the glow of his face seeming to darken a bit.

“I am… Not a human”

Omen repeated the sentence again, raising his head to face Phoenix, though his tone had an unusual sadness underlying it.

“...”

“Yes, I was once before but that has all been ripped apart, I can’t eat, think, sleep or even look like a human so why must i take its foolish title?”

The wraith had practically wrapped himself in his arms, as if he were protecting himself, the younger man beside him though, had completely switched moods from a joyous one to complete silence. Though soon even the unusual silence was broken.

“Look… Omen mate I’m sorry b-”

“Save it Phoenix. I don’t need your pity.”

The phantom's words were full of spite but nevertheless the firebird continued.

“Ahem… but. Just because you don't physically look like a human doesn’t mean you can’t be one mate!”

The shadow turned his head and faced his claw-marked face towards the younger man. An unseeable expression of awe, just how, the wraith thought, could someone be so stubborn?

"This topic is useless and we should drop the conversation at this point. I'm leaving."

The phantom sighed getting up once again to walk away

"Okay okay mate go back to your room, but please hear me out!"

Omen paused before letting out a tired sigh and facing the brit.

"meet me in the common room tomorrow mornin! I got a plan for ya bruv"

Phoenix gave the wraith a wave goodbye adorned with a small smile, different from the smug one he wore daily. The shadow muttered before heading to his room, he would simply ignore the firebird and continue his morning cycle of sitting alone in his room.

…

Right…?
