He saw the ghost just ahead, looking around as if searching for something he had lost. He wouldn’t find it. At least, not before it found him.
Tucker tightened his grip around the gun in his hands, now less of an awkward item and now more of a familiar weight. He took a step and did so quietly, as to not disturb the ghost and his sensitive hearing.
He didn’t hear.
He repeated the process.
This time the ghost twitched slightly, before turning around to scan the surroundings.
Tucker froze, pleading to whatever higher being existed that he wouldn’t see him coming.
He didn’t. His eyes scanned right through Tucker, towards the canyon behind him and moved on.
Good. His plan was working perfectly.
He paused for another moment before taking a few more steps. And more. And more. And more and more and more and more until he was standing right behind the lone ghost.
Tucker raised the gun at the back of the ghost’s head, took a deep breath, and fired.
A perfect shot. The ghost jolted but couldn’t react as the bullet ripped through his skull. He disintegrated into nothingness.
There was a silence for a second before…
“TUCKER!” Danny shrieked over the headset. “I thought we were on a team!”
“We are!”
“You shot me through the head!”
Danny’s character model respawned and he glanced around frantically.
“WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU??”
Tucker fired the gun at him again.
Disintegration. Undead screeching. Respawning.
“ARE YOU USING THAT INVISIBILITY CHEAT??”
“…No.”
“Tuck…”
“All’s fair in love and war, my friend.”
Bang.
“TUCCKKEERR!”
